    Ogre Maneaters

UPDATED FIRST POST! First time here? The log proper starts just after the contents! A few little things before we start:
If you want to visit my Ogre image gallery, then click here.
Anything written in orange means that it is a commissioned work that won't be appearing in my own army.
If you want to know how I've done a particular thing then ask! If you have criticism, speak up and say it - I studied Fine Art for a while, so I've undoubtedly heard worse! Besides, if it helps me out, I'm very thankful.
If you want some advice on your own models or paint schemes, just drop me a PM. If it's someone trying to improve their own hobby, I always have the time to help out.
If you want to chat about the hobby, PM me! If you're local to the Bristol area or will be here on a certain day or at a certain event, PM me! I'm happy to bring models out if you want to see them in person, I'm even more happy to have a game whilst doing so!

    Ogre Maneater Commissions

Several people have asked about getting a Maneater made for their own army. This is a definate possibility.
The current starting price for a commission is £90. If your idea is very simple it'll be low, if it's more complex, it can come in at more. If you want more than one then you will more than likely receive a discount! Gnoblars can be added where appropriate (and let's face it, when aren't they appropriate), but may boost the cost up very slightly. The price quoted includes parts for the Ogre (if you want specific parts I do not have, the price will have to go up, unless you can send them to me!), construction, any greenstuff work (which is almost a certainty), and simple basing. Painting is usually around 50%-75% of the cost again depending on the model. I can also do scenic bases for a little more too. Postage will be calculated as applicable. Obviously overseas (I'm in the UK) will cost a bit more. Each model will be a one of a kind.
The model will be made and painted to exactly the same standard as my own models. Requests for style of conversion are welcome but not neccessary. Painting scheme is at the client's request, as is basing (if you want the painting and basing to fit with your army, I will need photos of your models!).
I reserve the right to post all progress to your Maneater in this log.
Sorry that's a lot of writing and disclaimers and whatnot, but I like to be entirely open and honest about the sort of service I run. If you want your models made and painted very basically, then go somewhere else. If you want lovingly converted models painted to this standard with a friendly service you probably wouldn't get from other companies, come to me!
If you're interested or want more details, PM me! Even if you're just scoping out prices or ideas for models with no intention of commissioning, I'm more than happy to chat about that!

    Army List

I've got a 2000 point army list made. I also have a 1000 point one, and a grand scheme 5000 point one made up. For the purpose of this log, we'll stick with the 2000 point one for now.

    Lords

Tyrant – Ironfist, heavy armour, Greatskull
    253 points

    Heroes

    Butcher – Hellheart
    180 points

    Butcher –
    130 points

    Core

3 Bulls – Ironfists, light armour, bellower
    139 points

4 Ironguts – Gutlord, standard bearer
    222 points

4 Ironguts – Gutlord, standard bearer
    222 points

    20 Gnoblars – Groinbiter
    42 points

    Special

    2 Leadbelchers –
    110 points

    2 Leadbelchers –
    110 points

    Rare

    Maneater – Cathyan Longsword
    86 points

    Maneater – Cathyan Longsword
    86 points

    Total: 1997 points

That's (for now) everything that will be appearing in the army. I'm currently working towards 1000 points, in which the Tyrant is a Bruiser, and I have 1 Butcher, 2 units of Bulls, 1 unit of Ironguts, 1 unit of Leadbelchers, and one Maneater.

Alright, now all that's out of the way, the log starts here!

    _______________________________

    My new project log!
Now my Space Hulk box is completed (see signature), I am setting off on my next project.

The idea behind it is an entire army of Maneaters. One Ogre left the mountains to join a Dogs of War army, and has run into a lot of money. He now wants to rekindle the good old feeling of a bunch of Ogres going to war. As he is down in the old world, he decides to use said money to recruit all the Ogres he comes across to his cause.

And thus is born an army of Maneaters.

As far as rules go, they will function just like a regular Ogre Kingdoms army. I'll post up an army list for you all to look at later on.

As far as models go, every single Ogre will be from a different part of the Warhammer world. Their weapons, armour, dress and attitude will reflect this. This log will not be finished within a few weeks. Each Ogre will be heavily converted and sculpted to fit the theme.

Enough talking? I started the first Ogre today. He will be an Irongut who has spent altogether far too much time with the Dwarfs.

So far I have repositioned him quite a lot, and I've started sculpting the heavy armour on him. That stick poking down will become an axe.
    Does the pose look familiar?

Woohoo! This will be splendid by the look of that dwarf lord - I mean ogre maneater. Will you give him a fake beard our such? Best of luck.

    Re: Ogre Maneaters

    Thanks all!

He's going to have a real beard. Probably not as long as the Dwarf's, but longer than most Ogres I think.

I did some more work yesterday, and the basic armour shaping is all done I think.

Today I'll start work on the axe, and possibly some embellishments.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I'll try not to disappoint!

Next stage of the Dwarf is done. Starting to take shape properly now. I hope to have the construction finished tomorrow or Friday.

An ogre dwarf he looks awesome so far. Any ideas on what the leader is going to look like ?
Looking forward to seeing more. By the way, are units going to have some sort of thing that binds them together or will every unit just be a rag tag of all sorts of different ogres.
I would like to see some weird gnoblars aswell, maybe you could make a dwarf gnoblar friend for this guy ? :P

Damn you, Kalsir, you beat me to my dramatic announcement later on today!
I will indeed be having some weird Gnoblars. In fact, one of the things I really like about the Ogre book is how it mentions that most every Ogre has his own pet Gnoblar (or two or three). Every single one of my Ogres will have a Gnoblar somewhere on the model/base. And they will have picked up on their hosts' customs as well. Later today I'll post up the Dwarf's one. Any ideas what it'll be?
The leader? Yes, I know exactly what he will look like thanks very much!
As far as consistency in the army goes, that will all be addressed in painting. Every Ogre in a unit will be from a different part of the Old World (although there are some themes throughout the units - more on that tomorrow), so to keep it from looking too mismatched, I will be adjusting my painting somewhat.

Glad the shameless plug worked then!

Right, picture for this post. The Dwarf Ogre is now *drum roll* finished! At least, I think he is.

I've been wondering whether I should add something else. I have a bunch of tiny dwarf shields that would make for brilliant shiny Ogre currency, which I could add in a little bad around his waist. This would play up the Ogre thing a bit more, but mean he looks less like the model that inspired him. I'd love to hear what everyone has to say on the issue. And indeed, if you have any other comments or criticism (I can take it), I would love to hear it to help me improve.

Well guys, I'm turning over ownership of this log to Kalsir, because he's already taken all my ideas!
Yes, there will be more Dwarfs... Of a sort.

And yeah, because he also got this one right too, here's a Gnoblar Trollslayer!

Pay attention to which way he's facing... it may well give a hint to the next one coming up.

I've had the idea of Maneaters from all over the Old World before, but unlike you I lack the sculpting skills.
I'm looking forward to living my Maneater dreams vicariously through you.

    Re: Ogre Maneaters

Sorry for stealing you ideas , the gnoblar looks just as good as the ogre he is even so awesome that it makes me want to make a gnoblar slayer cult army. And this time the only thing I can think of is that the next one will be modeled after this guy because he is on the right of the one this one is modeled after, but as he has a shield he doens't fit into an irongut unit so it's probably not modeled after that guy. This time I really don't know what the next one will be, my guess is that he has a hammer, but I'm probably totaly wrong. Anyway I'm looking forward to seeing the next one.

oooh i really like it, and i think that gnoblar is really cool too, both look great together, and very nice conversion.

hope this log continues, would be great to see what you come up with for all the other armies.

is the next one a chaos dwarf orientated maneater perhaps?

Well, to be honest, I'm not in much of a mood to paint at the moment, but in the interests of keeping the log interesting, I'll start painting in the next couple of days.

    Bingo.

That's the start I've made on him. A long time has been spent looking round the internet for pictures of Chaos Dwarfs, and I've found that unless you want to go the old skool route of big hats (I definately don't), the jury is still out on what a Chaos Dwarf should actually look like. So I'm playing it by ear for now. If anyone has any suggestions for what to add, I would very much appreciate it.
