Looking awesome Lew, have been following this blog along time now and I'm always impressed. Your tutorials are fantastic as well.
I'm back!
Apologies again for too long without updates. I had to go back to uni, and without a camera, wasn't able to finish the step by step fire guide.
I'm now off for summer though, so updates shall pick up the pace again!
I'll start with some sneak peek pictures below, after comments.
Harlekin: Yeah, it's purposefully more red than a flame that size would be. The red lighting effect will serve as the spot colour for the army on this guy. Gotta put more red in than orange to make it cohesive.
The Odor: I can't admit to spoiling you. More than like four updates in a year would be good!
Monsterzonk: I appreciate the criticism! I should probably amend the tutorial a bit, because you're quite right. Real flames are usually less red, and flames on other models could easily stop before too much red is added. For an impression of the kind of flame I'm going for, check out some pictures of oil fires - they have that dark, billowing bit at the top.
Demoulius: Heh, yeah we are up to quite a few pages now, eh? Yet still bordering on 1000 points...
Demortu: Thanks!
Demrush: Friend is fine!I figure that I took ages and ages practising my painting skills, and any help I can give to others to lessen that time can only be a good thing.
Harry: Why thank you. Again, you're probably quite right about the flame. When the OSL is painted though, it'll be a bit more sense.
Vcassano: The green coat? It's a mixture of Catachan Green (now Castellan Green), Chaos Black (Abaddon Black), and a little Red Gore (Wazdakka Red), with Kommando Khaki (Karak Stone) mixed in to highlight. Then it was given a whole load of washes of green, brown, red and purple to enrich the colour. The highlighting was done normally, but towards the highest highlights, I added in a criss cross pattern to simulate fabric.
StrangeGuy: I hate that! When you're just checking Warseer quickly before bed, and you get distracted by a particularly cool one (and there are plenty to distract), and before you know it, the sun is coming up. I managed to avoid such a fate for a couple of months because of uni, but now it's summer (and I have so much stuff to catch up on), I can see a lot of late nights in my future!
Olly24: Definitely not given up! I'm still enjoying making Ogres as much as I did way back with the Dwarf Irongut, so I can't see the army stopping any time soon! Glad I could inspire you on your own ones - they're a cool army, and deserve our time!
Demoulius: Thank you!
Neovo: He's taken long enough! I tell you, I'm pretty sick of the sight of him at this point.
Daa6: Slowly. Gah. He's practically done other than the source lighting, which I could well have done by now, but without a camera for step by steps, he's just been sat in a box.
Karak Norn: Thanks! Good.
MLP: Cheers! Glad they're well received.

Alright, I'll be cracking on with part 2 of the OSL tutorial before long, but I didn't want to post about coming back without sharing some pictures of something, so here are a few sneak peeks from the next Ogre I've been making. He's coming along quite nicely now, but there's still plenty more to do.
There's a Gnoblar! Knowing exactly what this is, I think this Gnoblar pretty much gives it all away straight off, but we'll see!
Secondly, a tiny sneak of one of the parts being used:
And that's all you're getting! Let the guessing begin!
If you're absolutely desperate for an answer, you can find out the file name; but if you do, please don't spoil the fun for the others. I'll be back tomorrow with another sneak peek or two, let's see how you do in the meantime!
Lastly: thank you to everyone who's commented and checked out the log, hope you're all well, and I look forward to a couple of months of updates!
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Nice to see your Ogre's get mentioned in WNT again!

Empire steam ogre!
Wooooooh! It's alive!
Cheers,
BTB
I'm following this plog pretty much from the start, and I can only say: Fantastic army!
And congrats on your new GW mention!
Ancient miniatures and new stuff in my Vampire Counts Plog
Jonahmaul: I had no idea they had been until I checked here last night! Well, that was a nice surprise! It'd be even nicer if I could send in some more pics... shame I haven't even finished three Ogres since then!
Lord Dan: Pretty much there! You're just missing one key aspect.
BtB: Alive and kicking! Good to be back.
El Stono: Thanks! Nice to have people sticking around (even after the huge gaps between updates).

Yesterday I played a game of Talisman where within one hour, everyone else died. It was... not the most fun game of Talisman we've ever played! Too many dragons, not enough fun. Oh well!
More pics:
Yep, this is one of the only miniatures in the entire army have more than one Gnoblar. That alone says something special about it.
This was a hard image to get, sorry for a little blurriness.
Any other guesses? Lord Dan was very close, but missing one or two key words. I'll keep posting sneak peeks until someone gets it, but I feel there isn't much more I can show without giving it away entirely!

Wait - are you going for soemthing bigger - and empire steam ogre ironblaster?
When I'm done with these skaven and dark elf armies I'm gonna run into the woods and never come back. And when I come back I'm gonna be the *********** knife master.
I'm with Punk_in_Drublic. A steam tank converted into an Iron Blaster with Gnoblar Crew.

Hey Lewis
How are you? Nice to see that you aren't actually dead. It's got to be a Empire pirate steam tank/boat ironblaster? hasn't itor actually due to the multiple Gnoblars what about a scraplauncher?
Tom
I'd guess it will be a new - 'fcourse imperial - leadbelcher with HUUGE gun.
Other than that, the scrap launcher sounds reasonable.
Just a quick word to the flame - the comparison was about the flame's picture.
If you have the right stuff to torch on, a wide range of flame colours would be possible, no doubt.
So even a pure crimson flame might be possible (I think many emergency torches are presented this way)
Anyway keep on posting and summering!
By Chains and GlassNOTHING IS MORE BRUTAL THAN A CHAINFIST IN THE HEAD....
Red Nidz, some inquisitorial staff and... a mushroom
I'm going with Mecha-fang Cavalry.
The gnoblar with the torch and the other one pointing definitely lead me to think it's an Iron Blaster, just can't work out what the clockwork bit forms nor the eagle head!

Punk_in_Drublic: Maaaaaaaaaaaybe...
Jonahmaul: Hooray! The gear was a little bit of a misdirection... The gears are from a few sources, and the eagle head is from the Steam Tank.
Tom: Hey! I'm not dead, I've been in GW on Thursdays! Except from now on, because I'm back in Bristol...
Harlekin: You're quite right on the flame, I think I'll go back and change that bit a little. Thanks for the feedback!
Deff Mekz: That would be ridiculously awesome! Unfortunately it's not.
Gargobot: Ha! That would be something. Sort of like a giant clockwork Juggernaut.

Well seeing as Punk_in_Drublic pretty much got it dead on, here are some pictures of what I've been working on!
It's an Irontank! Steamblaster? Neither of those work very well. I put it out to everyone else to come up with a name!
Construction is pretty much done (aside from a few gaps that need filling), just the Ogre himself that needs some more work. He'll be writing some calculations on a scroll, letting all the Gnoblars do the real work!
Not much more to say on it at the moment, so let me know what you all think!
