Osprey Publishing's Force-On-Force: gaming 1/72 scale "moderns" blog

Hi everyone. After being into tabletop games for 17+ years it was about time for a change: next to my usual GW stuff I am now also loving to game Ambush Alley (and its expansion: Force-On-Force). They were intended for the current conflicts around the world but can be used for WW2 games as well as sci-fi. There are no codicies of any kind, nor are there any point costs for units. For this game you need to know history or invent it new.
It's totally mission and scenario driven and having such a tactical depth that the Australian army even uses it to teach officers for some sort or project

These rules allow to game in any scale with every sort of miniature. However, given the amount of kit out there I decided to go with the 20mm (~1/72 scale) way of gaming.
If you want to find out more about the game, check out http://www.ambushalleygames.com/

For sources of miniatures (except the well known scale kit makers) you can click my web-blog (see signature) and look at the upper right corner.

In this thread I am going to show my work in progress as well as some already completed models.

Armies you'll find in here are going to be:
-US Army (up to date and also Desert Storm era)
    -Iraqi Republican Guard
-Middle Eastern Insurgents (PLO, Hamas, Fedayeen Saddam, Taliban etc.)
-ISAF contingent of the German Bundeswehr
    -USMC
-China's PLA (no kidding, in 1/72)
    -Russian Forces GRU detachment (Spetsnaz)
-and even more if I'll ever find the time.

Stay tuned - I'll show some miniatures soon.

    First off:
    Insurgents!!
These are pewter miniatures from RH Liberation (based in the UK), while the vehicles are 1/72 scale diecast cars.
They were painted by friend of mine, Rob. He made them to my specifications as I didn't find the time to paint them next to my armies I already had in the works. I'd never have thought them to turn out that good.
Please note: the bases are 2-cent coins (!!) and washers in various diameters.
    whole Insurgent Cell:

A bit of air support. This is an Italeri kit of the OH-58 Kiowa scout helicopter. I made a base using a large diameter GW flight-base, glued it on top of an old CD and then sticking 5.5 of clear plastic rod on top of that. Later I only covered everything with white glue and added sand, painted it and placed a bit of flock here and there.

BTW, the .50cal MG pod is completely scratchbuilt

the other side has an 7-shot M260 Hydra rocket pod mounted

Some progress on the infantry models I need for completing task 2 for a contest I am contributing models to (you have to complete certain tasks every second month and a winner will be picked by the end of 2010) :

    from left to right:
back row - US Army infantry squad consisting of two fire teams and leader, M4 rifles, M203 and M249 SAW.
middle row - civilian base for AA consiting of a couple talking, a trader talking on his cell phone and one bringing his goods into town with a packhorse.
    - three aditional miniatures consisting of Army soldiers with M136 launcher (AT-4)
    - a "wounded/dependent" marker for AA FoF (that's a first try only)
front row - weapons team with Javelin ATGM
