Those are nice. I really like the contemporary subjects; especially the Iraqi stuff. Not so keen on the insurgents. That's not a knock on your painting/modelling skills - I think they look superb but from what I've played of "Western-style army vs. Insurgents" gaming rules it's a very dull gaming subject, particularly for the insurgent player where I ended up feeling like the Genestealer player in Space Hulk ("I don't think you really need me, you could just use the rules to play this army automatically").

I'm really a fan of "what-if" modern conflicts in the sense of reasonably evenly matched sides, so I'm really keen to see your PLA project.

If you had such experiences with Insurgents in other games I recommend you give Ambush Alley a try. You still remove more Insurgents than regulars but if you know how to use them, they are a scary opponent. I had one scenario not too long ago where I ended up only with one corporal alive, the rest of the dismounted patrol got shot to pieces by overwhelming waves of heavyly armed irregulars.

They are using dug out holes for cover (the miniatures are actually sold as half figs). A practice you would use too, given the plain desert is not offering much else to hide behind.

ISAF German Wiesel 1 light, airborne tanks.
One with 20mm MK and one with TOW.

(Work in progress, they will get a woodland camo finish as they never got repainted before deploying in Afghanistan. I am currently waiting for my decals to show up )

The 1/72 Revell plastic Bundeswehr soldier is only there for scale reasons...

I do know who they are.. Maybe I'll do them, although they would be Marines, not Army. I already have Team Razor converted out of ARMA 2 !! These were done by a good friend who just happens to be very talented with green stuff and brushes (well, more than I am obviously)

all 20mm pewter miniatures, heavily green stuff converted (head swaps, added details etc)

    Wow wowie wow wow.

I have not had a chance to play any historical/realistic wargames but these models alone make me want to change that, they truly are that good.

I love the road signs on your first selection of models, how did you do those?

You can buy those. There are many companies that supply the market for diorama makers. You can either downsize 1/35 scaled ones or buy 1/72 which will fit just fine.

Re: Ambush Alley Force-On-Force: modern military forces blog

After a whole afternoon of work I have finally finished my two Waffenträger Wiesel 1 light tanks for my German ISAF troops.

I have painted them with Tamiya Acrylics in standard Nato 3-tone camo, thinned Devlin Mud (GW) and washed the whole vehicle with it, applied decals (Peddinghouse-decals) and gave them are really dirty look by dry-brushing a lot of Vallejo Iraqi Sand all over the hull and tracks. The crew was painted the same way as the rest of my modern Revell German infantry. The flags I have created using MS paint, printed them and then just glued onto the antennas.
I am really happy how the turned out. After the M113 of last month these are currently my new favourite models. :yahoo:

A few shots with some infantry on a joint patrol...

    Some more Iraqi Republican Guard:

First squad with BMP-2D (Iraq never had the "D / up-armoured" version, but due to wrong models delivered to me.... ). The squad carries a mixture of different weapons like Ak-47, RPG-7 and RPD light MG.

I just got awesome news from Shawn Carpenter, owner and writer of the Ambush Alley Games' rules that I am using:

In addition to the Ambush Alley: Force on Force core rule-book, Ambush Alley Games and Osprey will be releasing new companion books containing scenarios, special rules, and organizations for several specific modern military operations.

I’m very excited about this collaboration, because I believe it will bring you the best that both companies have to offer. You’ll be receiving the same exciting content that we’ve been providing since 2007 and, thanks to Osprey, it will be presented in an even higher quality and more affordable format!

Who knows the Osprey Publishing books, knows that this is going to be soooo awesome. Can't wait to get my grubby little fingers on those!

With Osprey supporting him this will go far, I don't know anyone interested in this kind of thing who has a bad word against them. A very big step up for his company.

Loving the log, do you know if the company you get your figs from does British guys as well?
