    9th Grand Company

    Hello,

So, I know this dude who works for the Workshop and Ive just bought all this lot. As you can see I've taken over the conservatory:-
    [IMG][/IMG]

My plan is to create an armoured force of Iron Warriors for an up and comming Apocalypse game aganist an Imperial Guard army - pah!
    Should be a good crack!

So heres what I've got so far:-

    Predator assassin squadron
    [IMG][/IMG]

    Looted Shadowsword
    [IMG][/IMG]

    1st Landy and dread-needs coverting
    [IMG][/IMG]

and a vindicator line breaker squadron plus 2nd Landy
    [IMG][/IMG]

As you can see I've got tons and tons to do. Also want to make one of those warhounds and possible a thunder hawk. With all the grunts (pics to follow) should be around 6500 point, so not too shabby.

It's a bit weird having the whole army in one go, just dont know where to start. Not enough time in the day!!
Will post pic's as the army develops

    I'm pale with envy!

If you have problems deciding where to start I'd suggest saving the models and units you like the most for painting after you've painted the majority of the stuff, or alternate doing good and less good models, so you don't get so tired of painting the same boring stuff over and over again.

I'd also suggest putting all the stuff you're finished with somewhere you can see them, so you know how much has been done, and all the stuff your not working on somewhere you won't see them.

are you going to re-paint the stuff you're buddy painted or keep them as they are?

    Good luck!

Yeah it is mostly going to be repainted. However, I'm going to turn some of them (maybe a squad or two) into the 'tainted'

This is because I aready have 'Mammon' (get some pic's of him up!) and think it be good to have some of 'his boys' to back him up. Also have a FW Death Guard Terminator squad so be a nice little band. Should make a nice change from painting the same colours as you mentioned above.

Hmm, I have this feeling as if the lower part of the titan (the legs) are way more detailed than the upper part. Got some more pics?

Lots of Chaos tanks! That is going to be one awesome Apoc game when you get round to playing it.
The way to true power is to put yourself second in command

    Re: 9th Grand Company

Yeah my imperial opponent has loads of tanks so should be a good tank brawl!!!

I wanna embrace the Iron Warrors ethos of 'Trust their wargear and nothing else!' so gona have lots of 'tooled up' tanks, lascannons, demolisher cannons. The shadow sword was also a must for me. Havocs with lascannons and grunts with meltas, gona rival an imperial army on fire power!!

As for the titan (who's getting a lot of attention) gona make a Laser Blaster to replace one of the Volcano cannons, will get some more pic's for you (in the mean time could always check out my link, lots of pics there)

    Re: 9th Grand Company

I've uploaded some pic's of the grunts. Wolud like to say in advance that these pic's are the best I can do with what I've got so sorry that they not the best:-

First up I've given all my Sergants a trophy rack to identify them easier and also wanted corprols, to lead 5 man squads, so given them mini racks and hair extensions..
    [IMG][/IMG]

2nd squad command with converted Icon bearer..
    [IMG][/IMG]

    Some heavy gear..
    [IMG][/IMG]

Heres my Warsmith. Converted from an old Tech-marine...
    [IMG][/IMG]
    [IMG][/IMG]

Here they are together, a Tactical squad and one havoc squad+warsmith..
    [IMG][/IMG]

Want another sqaud armed with close combat gear, then might leave it. More tanks!!!

Looking good man! I'm just slightly dissapointed about the Titan. I mean, the legs look amazing, especially the lower legs, great detail. But when you go up you seem to drop the details. It almost seems as if you had a deadline to catch and didn't have enough time.

Sorry if I sound harsh here, but as a modeller you have great potential, it's just a shame that you havent been able to add that level of detail to the entire model.

    Re: 9th Grand Company

    Thanks for your coomments guys,

I dont think your being harsh Malika, it's good to get constructive criticism.
Do you have any ideas for add more detail to the torso?
I didn't think I was 'skimping' on the torso when building it, I was copying the FW model and, apart froom the engine, there didn't seem to be that much up top. I do admit the guns are weak, but I plan to make new ones latter on.

Just like to say that was the first time I have ever scratch built anything (and it was a hard one to start on!)

As before all comments are welcome and I dont take them negatively as its good to get others perspective and highlight things you wouldn't notice. So keep them comming!!

Oh, I'm sorry i forgot your thread about this titan, the final result is awesome, great work and congratulations!

About the army, i think they are pretty good as well, but honestly the pics are a bit blurry and dark to say much more, a lot of work and all good done, though.

    Keep the good work!

For a first time it's great. But I still think you could have done a way better job. You have the skills to do it. Let me come back on that tomorrow. I just got home from a long day/night of drinking and bbq madness.

    Re: 9th Grand Company

First tank troop is now complete, however,

Im not 100% happy with how they have turned out, going to do the next lot slightly diffrently.
    [IMG][/IMG]

Because I'm not the best painter I tried to go for an old, weathered look. I did this by Dry brushing boltgun metel over the black undercoat, following with layers of chainmail and mythril silver. they don't look too bad in the pic's but I might try a solid base coat of boltgun metal, followed by the same highlights on the next ones and compare them.
    Heres some more pic's:-

    [IMG][/IMG]

    [IMG][/IMG]

Next is the command tank. It has a few diffrences. diffrent dozer blade, dragon exhaust pipes, and a combi-bolta that all command tanks will have to further identify them:-
    [IMG][/IMG]

The troop have also been marked simply as, PI, PII & PIII.

Next in the dark forge will be the vindicator troop!!

    Re: 9th Grand Company

I think they look great, the metal looks really good, not a solid metallic, which gives it a more realistic weathered look. Very nice

    The vindicators are now finished.
    [IMG][/IMG]

    [IMG][/IMG]

    [IMG][/IMG]

I did these different to the last lot and I'm happy with the result.

Started with a coat of boltgun metal. Then gave them a coat of flesh wash, chesnut ink and finaly brown ink.
Then dry-brushed with boltgun metal, chainmail and mythril silver. They have a nice battle worn look (doesnt really show on the pic's sorry)

will repaint the predators with the same washes after the rest are done.

Think I'm gonna work on the shadow sword next - for a treat
