Yeah I think the greataxes would have very much benefited from having pegs rather than being flat since it would allow you to easily do a dry assembly run and see how the two handed weapon will sit on the model without needing any glue and potentially awkward poses... Oh well, too late for that now I guess.

I just go through and cut all the pegs off as standard now, as if they're bits of waste sprue, because I've noticed that they tend not to fit properly most of the time, especially with the dwarfs.

I realise Ronnie intends them to be a way of putting the models together more quickly, but for me they just add time.

There's too much variance to get a good fit, and the pegs are so tightly fitting that they don't leave any room to take into account the random cooling/ shrinkage of the mould, even a fraction of a mm can throw things off.

I've noticed this also with the mantic bases, where often one model will not fit into one base at all, but will easily fit into another. So, I just keep a pile of bases handy and dry fit them to find one that works before gluing. The mantic bases were clearly machined to be identical, but they are not.

For me they fit pretty well on the Orcs, I have no experience with the Dwarfs though.

One thing that didn't fit nicely was some of the orc's disks into the 25mm square bases... I had to carefully shave around the edges of it so it would fit.

Thanks for heads up on that. It was mentioned the bag would likely make it's official debut at GenCon, glad to see they came through.

I agree about those smaller foam trays for the hardcases.

Video is pretty good -- he mentions templates, which I guess you'd want if you were using Warpath stuff for 40k -- but I really like the foam inside the boxes. I'm probably going to pick one up.

Not a lot new in it for those of us who have followed Mantic and Ronnie for a while, but I thought new fans, or others who are looking for a distraction from getting any miniatures painted, might find it interesting. Bit pricier, seems to have been brought in-line with the army boxes. I had a hunch that this would happen since the original set was a crazily good deal (especially with the 10 extra models and free journal that came with the set on launch last year).

Other positives:

- Better print quality on the rules.
- The box scales better as a set, especially for the dwarfs - 25 ironclads and 20 ironwatch were a bit of an awkward mix. New box has regiments of Ironclads and Skeletons, troops of everything else. Multiples of the set should stack nicely.

On the other hand, I would recommend just getting an army box over this set now that the price is higher. You get the rules either way and odds are most people will want either undead *or* dwarfs, not both. Morgoth's is only the better option for anyone who wants the game in a box experience.

Great find Scarletsquig. So not that different to the Revenge set, the Dwarfs certainly appear more of a rounded force now with the exchange of 10 Ironwatch for 10 Shieldbreakers. The main difference seems to be the increase in £10 on the rrp, but given the mental savings that the Revenge set had this should be of little surprise to us, still a great value boxedset/starter kit IMO.

It came with rules last time. The only that is changed is that they've switched it from a pamphlet to a booklet.

The rule book is 56 full colour with 3 new army lists, and "Fat" Elf, Dwarf and Undead lists - even the Abyssal Dwarfs and Orcs got some new units!

I've been giving away my spare copies of the printed rules to people, it works great for getting people into the game, and will work even better if I can get my mitts on multiples of this new booklet from the £50 sets.
