    Eldar Pirates of the Immaterium

Ahoy there maties! here be my log of eldarness as I get through posting my half worked up corsairs and finish em up ready for the high seas..well high galaxies. first up is my dire avengers and wave serpent, I pretty much lifted their look from the 4th edtition kill team(page 219) puffy sleeves and knee high boots is the crack, also props to the yellow one from CMON I used his idea of covering the cockpits over and the extra bling, or as my DA opponent calls it, bedazzling!

Can't wait to see more, I obviously love the falcon, it's very unique and rpetty well done.

The dire avengers are so cool obviously, I would never be able to make such a unique squad, unless it was ment for a painting competition.

If your dire avengers and falcon look like this, what can be expect of everything else?

Re: Eldar Pirates of the Immaterium

heh, I also borrowed the same trick from yellowedone's eldar vehicles.

I like the pattern on the waveserpent technically, but I'm not sure if I like the idea behind it... kind of "space pirates taken too literally", but that's just personal preference, really.

the DA's are awesome, especially the third one, which by the way cuold be used as ranger too imo.

anyways, good looking stuff you got there.. looking forward for more

Thats a great looking squad, very captivating. Absolutely love the 3rd dire avenger very original. The scheme on the grav tank looks nice, albeit complicated, i compliment you for your dedication it looks rocking

Re: Eldar Pirates of the Immaterium

    thanks guys!
Kharandhil: well im sorta working on lots of bits at once, right now Im between a fire prism, warlock bike council, jetbikes and war walkers. Should get pics up soon!

Crowmire: I sorta patterned the serpent after a blue lobster pic

I tried replicating the actual markings but it looked messy so I just simplified it.
What with the nautical angle all of the colours in the army will be aquatic like, I was thinking maybe the psykers as tropical fish ..clownfish warlocks? maybe a little bit overboard with the theme but I did stop short of gangplanks and rigging on the tanks! I was thinking of painting the underside of them all wood effect, and y'know over the door a lady's portrait and scrollwork,
anyways here's some more avengers undercoated

a falcon but with the colours from a more tropical crab!

and one of the warlocks as well

now you're all aboard, my plan is to update with a mix of works in progress and units already finished, peg legs and hook hands to come!

Great stuff, I'd like to see more!

I saw the pattern on the Waveserpent as almost abstract.

You have a great looking squad of DA there. The paint job on the wave serpent is awesome as well.

Any chance of a quick tutorial on how you achieve the effect?

Look forward to seeing more of you minis!

    Cheers

Re: Eldar Pirates of the Immaterium

Aaah Haargh there eastern heretic, I've swiftly knocked up a rough tutorial hope this is helpful!(please forgive my shoddy graphics)
    1. I always start with a black undercoat, force o habit really!
    2. then paint in the whiteup to roughly where the blend edge'll be. I'l highlight and shade up the white at this point.
    3. now I take the hawk turquoise and paint in the outline of the blend, then paint that down to black as i go down the hull, wet blending loosely I guess.

    4. highlight those edges!
    5. the dots eh? What I came up with was differing sizes of dots. I'd do a line of dots vertically, leave space between them, then next line do the dots slightly larger and space them between the first line of dots. rinse and repeat really, also the cool thing is that when you mess a few up, or the dotted lines go squint, it just gives the pattern an organic vibe, and organic? that adjective was invented by the eldar!
time to batten the hatches in preperation for maelstrom of activity!
