Heh... I'd go back and redo that were I in your position. But then, I'm a perfectionist :P

There are some great 3rd party stowage packs out there if you're not planning on sculpting your own. Would be perfect for giving them the finishing touch. Check out S&S models as an example.

This is a real great army...
I always envy people with these painting skills!

I saw a Chem Dog army AGEs ago in White Dwarf,
and I liked the conversions and models.
I have to say-- your are better.

Yeah, I really fought with the idea of going back and correcting Snake Eyes, but I just can't make myself do it - the paintjob will be ruined. He'll only be one model amongst about a hundred Guardsmen, so I'm going to leave him as he is.

Cheers for the link - some nice models there. Will look into theirt stowage options.

That's quite the complement! Many thanks and hope you enjoy the upcoming models.

Love this army so far - can't wait to see more! Perhaps tattoos would be good? They are ex-convict miners yeah?

You're right, your painting is a lot better than the dakka savlar. Great looking hellhounds you got there. You've got me motivated enought to start finishing my imperial guards now.

Re: Savlar Chem Dogs - An Imperial Guard Log

Cheers guys for all the positive comments.

This week has been a quiet painting week. Lots of work and travelling has meant I haven't had much time to get my Savlar done...

However, a few hours today has gotten another infantry squad completed! Well, I say completed, but they still need extra packs, ammo, grenades, etc, so nearly done.

Squad Tuslov is shown here at full strength, just before the relief of Hades Hive. The squad served for several months prior to this operation, harrying ork forces throughout the southern industrial planes. Note Tuslov's shoulder pads, which designate his status as a member of Savlar's notorious "Death's Head" penal gang. The induction of high-ranking members of this gang during the Armageddon conscription lead to a period of calm on Savlar itself.

And here is my first try at a Savlar squad - these troops are done in a different style to my current army, and although I'm currently using them as infantry eventually they will probably be moved over to a penal legion squad...

Depicted here is a penal legion squad of unknown designation. Given that all Savlar regiments are made up of criminals, Savlar penal legion squads are made up of the lowest and abolsute worst examples. For a trooper to be relegated to such a squad marks him as an outlaw of the lowest sort: bloodthirsty, ruthless and often uncontrollable.

I'm currently working on Colonel Gortar, who will be the supreme commander for my army. As always, comments and so on are much appreciated.

Both squads are looking really good! The last one really captures the feel of a Penal legion squad.

I have to agree, they look very nice indeed. Despite using a mix of parts from different sources they look very much like an "official" savlar army, if that makes sense.

Re: Savlar Chem Dogs - An Imperial Guard Log

Thanks to all for the positive comments. This week has been a busy work week, but last night I managed to get a few hours painting in and made some good progress despite bieng exhausted...

First up is my "counts as" Colonel Straken...

Colonel Gortar the "Thief Lord" was overall commanding officer of the Savlar regiments stationed on Armageddon. Gortar was the last of a long line of Imperial pirates; his lineage having been condemned to Savlar for several generations. He is shown here after the defeat of the Chem Dogs at Hades Hive - after his capture by Ork forces, he had to be substantially rebuilt with bionics before he was operational once more. He carries a trademark plasma pistol, and a shotgun on his rebreather pack (likely to be of Vostroyan origin, although the Savlar have never served in the same war-theatre as the Firstborn). Although he survived Armageddon, Gortar was subsequently KIA during the ill-fated Goru Campaign.

This rag-tag bunch of troopers demonstrates the piecemeal approach to Savlar equipment adopted throughout Armageddon. Note the mismatched body armour (some of which is liekly to be salvaged from Ork casualties), and the occasional improvised close combat weapon. Records show that Savlari Guardsmen were often reprimanded for coveting xenos artefacts and weaponry during their time on Armageddon, with field executions being common.

    +1 with MrP !
And I must say that the little pieces of fluff with each pictures are really good addition to your converting/painting work !

Re: Savlar Chem Dogs - An Imperial Guard Log

    Cheers for responses.

Managed to photograph a few more infantry models today, but I'm starting to get infantry burn out. Only a few more models to go and then I will have my troops choices covered.

Some close-ups of assorted favourite Guardsmen:

This image shows Guardsman Dillon, equipped with a reconditioned autogun and an improvised close combat weapon (probably retrieved from an Ork vehicle of some description). He was declared MIA during the final evacuation for Savlar Chem Dogs from Armageddon; very high numbers of Savlari deserted or otherwise disappeared into the civilian population during the operation.

Veteran Sergeant Gollic leads this infantry squad. The sergeant suffered extensive head injuries during a mining operation on Savlar, and was bionically reconstructed. The use of improvised or poor quality bionic upgrades is common amongst Chem Dogs, with many troopers being surgically altered to the extent that they are little more than servitors.

Comments appreciated as always - I'm going to start the rough riders soon, and will really need to feedback on the direction to take them in.

Awesome kit bashes and conversions, topped off with a steller paint job. I might have to start a similiar army in the future...keep it my man.
Also, I'm loving the Alien3 names to your characters, these guys do kind of remind me of the prisoners in that film, which is a good thing.

Fantastic work again fella, colonel Gortar is particularly striking. The latest squad look great too, i am very impressed with your balance of miscellanious parts and overall cohesion of the unit. This is a task people quite often fail to achieve, you sir have however done it beutifully, i am really impressed with your guardsmen thus fr. Looking forward to seeing more.
