Re: Ambush Alley team up with Osprey Publishing

I just got an email from Osprey with the pre-orders for the new, hardback Force on Force rulebook and the first supplement, Road to Baghdad. Both with an April 2011 release date.

I've already got PDFs of the original rules, but I'll be pre-ordering these, too.

You really should. The new Supplements use special terms and rules that aren't included in the "old" version. The Osprey release isn't only the same rules in a new dress - it's expanded by a lot more than the .pdf ever included. (to include some of the best eye-candy ever - as Piers already pointed out above)

While most of you are aware of Amazon and the Osprey Publishing website to pre-order stuff, you may also like this

    Ambush Alley Force On Force

Ambush Alley Force On Force: Road To Baghdad

Ambush Alley Force On Force: Operation Enduring Freedom

..and as it does require most of my time at the moment - Osprey's new release:

    Tomorrow's War

..and you may also not miss an exclusive sneak peek of the eye-candy Big P from GMG (all kudos to him ) is talking about: click me, baby!!

I've got the rules and both supplements pre-ordered! Now I just need to start picking up some 20mm modern miniatures to game with once I have the rules in hand.

This game looks really cool! I'm curious, though - what's the rough scale of conflict for a typical FoF game? I get the impression it's sort of a mid-range skirmish game, maybe a few teams/units per side, is that correct?

The minimum is one fire team. The maximum your imagination. But it plays best with something in between 2-3 squads (or 6-9 fire teams) and a few vehicles of different classes (light, heavy etc).
If you play the game as it is supposed to, your scenario description will tell you what (roughly) you'll need to field.

FoF covers everything you would want to have in a wargame - stealthy missions for your Covert Ops Alpha teams, fighting an insurgency or full size tank battle. You name it, FoF has it.

    Sithlord,
the core rules and Road To Baghdad are released in April. Special rules like in tomorrow's war? "Tomorrow's War" is a stand alone book. You need to specify a bit more what you mean with special rules.
There is no guidance to missing T,O&Es. But I am sure that the community (so far it always has) is able to let you know any TO&E you are looking for.
In the supplements (like in Road To Baghdad for example) ALL T,O&E you need to play are fully included, while the core rule offer a few sample ones for representative armies.

We do not offer a points system - that's one of the main factors why Force on force does play different to "classic" tabletop rules of other games. WAR is not a tournament and most of the time it is not fair play either. However, points might be an option for free download later (there is a healthy discussion about this in the team).

EDIT - forgot your question regarding dice: no, you will need to have D6, D8, D10 and a few D12.

actually more like special rule to fit on guidance creating your own unit, I take sample of tomorrow war where people likely give a special rule like plasma guns, jump packs, etc.

    Do al-qaeda are represented?

Great news, I always wanted a competitive environment once a while

Ouch, this is problem, D8 to D12 are very rare on my country

Re: Ambush Alley team up with Osprey Publishing

    Sithlord,
there are rules like "stealthy" or "suppressed weapons" which could basicly be used to make your models a Spec Ops force, if they ride a motorcycle they can be "mounted" etc. So yes, you basicly could create special units by applying such attributes.

Al-Quaeda is not a military organisation. Hence, having a T,O&E is impossible. BUT: we do for example differ between those "terrorists" that had basic military training or even real combat experience (ie like the Talibs that were Mujahedeen or are Chechens who fought against the Russians in the '80s) and the typical pot-shot jihadist. Both sorts are resembled appropriately.

Not getting special dice ain't a problem. Nothing we couldn't fix for you in the days of global connections via internet. The FoF community is very helpful. I often get stuff which other members bought on my behalf and then sent to me. You'll find out soon, they will also help you if its necessary.

one more question scream, does the new FoF books incorporate rules for Free For All type games (I think it occurs very often in our real world, the very sample is in cold war where US vs Spetnaz in europe with US black ops have hidden agenda of their own)

The Force On Force book has the rules. The supplements are conflict-specific. With the rules in FoF you can play ANY warzone or conflict that occured after WW2 - be it a real one or something you made up (like playing something out of COD modern warfare for example).

Re: Ambush Alley team up with Osprey Publishing

You really should give it a try without wasting a thought on "points". You'll see it will make a huge difference. Believe me, I didn't play games that don't use points for units before either, but now I really see what fulfilling a mission - even if its just in a game - is really about! Every victory that is solely won by measuring who dealt more death is a Pyrrhic victory (or a standard 40k game ). In Force On Force you do not win if you don't fulfill your mission objective. Pretty much like in the real world.

But the discussion about adding point later for free download (to help finding some idea on how much forces to put into a scenario) will continue among the developers.

eyyy current 40k is not death blowing your enemy anymore (at least only one scenario to kill as many as you can) oh well back to topics

Gentlemen, Charly is somewhere out there!

The Vietnam-era Supplement "Ambush Valley" can now be pre-ordered. Available through Amazon: (in a few days also via Ambush Alley Games themselves, Osprey Publishing or once again - Bookdepository...)

AMBUSH VALLEY Vietnam Supplement at amazon

Ambush Valley Vietnam Supplement at bookdepository

The team works frenetecally to get it finished.
PS: as with the other books on pre-order, the pic doesn't show the actual Front-Cover - this is only for the purpose of showing a pic at all.
