3rd Company Dark Angels - Lazy style

Alright, so I've come to a halt on my Panzergruppen and have decided I really need to finish some more Dark Angels so I can have a playable army. As per my other log I'll go over what I've already done first before going into what I'm working on now.

So here's a quick selection of what's sitting on the shelf. Due to me being more interested in the modelling side I started by doing 'one of each' a couple of tac marines, a rhino, a Ravenwing biker and a Deathwing terminator. More of all to follow I promise.

So before I put the rest of the 'done' pics up, here's a WIP. I need advice on the base, I want it to be something 'majestic' to fit in with the fact he's the master. Ideas much appreciated

Take a look at the basing guide for inspiration (can be found here)
I like your work so far, very nice, particularly the feathers on the Ravenwing, I always have great difficulty with those.

Aside from the basing guide, I always find the head of an opponent always makes for a nice talking point, so take any old Chaos Lords head and put the decapitated cranium on your base with a suitable gory finish!
either that or some panelling (plasticard) with some DA iconography to insinuate he is residing in 'The Rock'

both I think would look quite good

Looks real good so far. A bit of a teaser for all types of DA in the first post!
As for the base, I would recommend a tile type base, which has a large Aquila on it. But would need to create a display base for him to show it all. (if that makes sense!!). Like he is stood in some grand hall etc

    Thanks all

I think I'll go for the tile style base with the aquila, or at least part of it. The att pic is stolen from the basing thread, but I still think I need some elevation though. Maybe some steps as well?

And to add to the list here's the first dread I've done. There's two more sitting in the 'to do' box waiting to be stripped and re-chaptered, if that makes sense. One is currently Ultramarines from my brother and one's Space Wolves from my first marine army. Hopefully the machine spirit doesn't start fighting itself LOL

Alright, so I've actually got around to taking some photos. Have been making a bit of progress but have only just got off my @ss to photo them.

First off is three Ravenwing Bikers, including a Veteran Sergeant. Only need to finish of two heads and their bases. Anyone know an easy way to fill in the two slits on the rectangular cavalry bases?

Secondly is the bodies for my Devastator Squad, and my second attempt at robes. I much prefer this method to the old one I tried, mainly cause it's so much easier. I'll try and find a pic of the other ones I did

I know i said you should start a new log for your Dark Angels lazy, but you should have mentioned it was up in your other thread. Only just noticed this. All looking great so far.

Thanks man The scopes etc are probably the only place I use blending, as it's so small you can't tell how bad I am about it hehehe

Ta mate Next on the production line is a Landspeeder, stil quite a bit of work to go and I'm going away for two weeks on sat so might not be finished for a while. After that I think I need just three more DW termies for the 1500 pt list on the back page of the codex. That's what I've been aiming for anyway, something playable that I can add to at will

Re: 3rd Company Dark Angels - Lazy style

Alright so it seems I've got the LS done sooner than I thought. Probably not the best quality, I think I rushed it a little bit. As you can see both weapons are magnetised, and although I think I'll be sticking with the MM/HF it'll be nice to have the option for HB/AC if I want.

I also tried to show a bit of the suspensor on the underneath, concentrating on what I thought were the 'nodes'. Comments more than welcome as usual

Re: 3rd Company Dark Angels - Lazy style

So now I'm working on three more termies for my first DW squad and I want some opinions. Should I stick with the bleached bone or go with white DW? I saw an awesome squad done in white a while ago (see link) and it made me doubt what I've already done. Now when I see my two bone guys they look too "creamy" if you know what I mean.

Only problem is is that I'm not sure I can pull off the white, oh and the fact I'll have to redo the guys I've already done

OK guys, well since there's been a large pause on my painting I thought I'd put up some older pics. Here are some pics of my two finished tac squads, one AOBR, one stripped and reborn from old Space Wolves and the DA upgrade sprue. Comments appreciated as always

Very nice. Really like the posing on that sergeant. Only thing I'd say is the head of the mace looks very messy. Have another bash at doing the electrical crackle, or paint it in normal metallics as atm it detracts from what is otherwise a cracking looking figure.

Cheers guys. Completely agree on the mace, was my first attempt at a 'powered' weapon. Will get around to it eventually LOL
