I love the spear. I was gonna do that for my next honor guard squad. Love the horse conversions as well. Marines riding huge chaos horses is awsome! For humble beginnings, as you've said, your doing very well!

This weekend I finished my Sanguinary guard squad--
and I learned that I HATE painting wings!
I had to do them 3 times until they came out halfway acceptable.
Any suggestions on painting wings???
Anyway, here is the finished squad--
I tried to emphasize that these guys are carrying power weapons...
this also needs some more practice as you can see!
And the individual members:

for some reason I really like that guy!

In one of the painting threats today there was a discussion about
"gold dusting" (giving the miniatures a VERY light drybrush of gold)
and I was curious if its works....
so I tried it out with my Sanguinary Guard--
they are angels and would not look out of place with some "star dust".
Here is how they turned out--
(compare with above with the picturs which I posted earlier
without gold dust).
I think what this gold dusting does is adding another highlight.
I will give the miniatures a coat of matte varnish now,
I expect that this will make the gold dusting look less shiny.

Today I made a very lucky discovery in one of the model shops--
behind some newer boxes I found a dusty sternguard veteran box--
at the price of 50$NZ.
This is cheaper than any of the recent plastic kits!
I like the models, and I bought the box immediately.
Before, I actually wanted to do something more fancy with a veteran squad for my army-- I wanted to create some models with some ancient greek parts...
but now that I have these new models, these plans have been postponed...
Here is my new veteran squad, primed and based and ready to be painted!

Just ordered some roman style helmet crests from Secret Weapon
for both my new champions and the sergeants.
I am curious how they will turn out!

sang guard look really nice
i think you should limit the gold dusting to the characters and the sang guard to give them a more ornate look and pick the guard out as having better armour than regular marines
great work so far![]()
A few days ago I recieved my order from Secret Weapon Miniatures.
Fast and friendly service, very much recommended!
I had ordered some roman helmet crests (small and large) for the captain, sergeants and veterans of my army.
This is how my Captain (model of Shrike) looks with one:
And the sternguard models with small helmet crests:
The sternguard sergeant with a big crest:
And now finally a completely painted model--
my assault sergeant also got a small helmet crest (a big one didnt
fit due to how I had glued the head):
I really like it.

only a layer of varnish missing.
For the sergeant I also used a large roman helmet crest from Secret Weapon Minitaures.

Today I tried myself of improving the faces of the tactical squad a bit.
After I used mostly bare heads....
I am pretty useless with faces, especially eyes.
However, I am quite happy with the result today.

Great looking army, I really like the look you are going for. As was said before I would limit the golddusting to the charactor and elite models to give them that special vibe.
The only suggestion I would offer is, please take the time to clean the mold lines off the army. I noticed them on some arms and on the flamer. It doesn't take that long, and with plastic you don't even need files you can just use a modeling knife. Personally I like to use files just because.... well just because im used to useing them
Other then that, be proud of your army, it looks great =o]
Thanks FabricatorGeneralMike.
Yes, so far I used the gold dusting only in the Sanguinary Guard and the one priest...
you are right, it just wont fit the normal marines.
About the mold lines...
hmmm....to be honest, I never thought about it (except in bad cases) because I havent been overly bothered about them. Might sound stupid, but removal is common practice?
You might be right, it might look better...less like plastic....![]()

A few news of my work on the weekend.
First, I bought the model of Astorath the Grim, because it looks awesome.
My colour scheme does not really fit the miniature, so I went with blood and bone colour with adding my bright green tear drops...
I am not sure if I want to play him, but he is great for display...

Next--
I finally finished my Death Company!
With this, the army is now ready for the tournament in 2 weeks I want to take part in. I think this will be a very fun army to play-- no, not absolute competitive and up there for the win, but fun to play...
For the Death Company, I varied my colour scheme a bit. I did not want to paint them completely black. So I decided to paint the left leg, right arm, shoulder- and knee- pads in black and the rest in my scheme.
Here is the Death Company:

On an auction site online I saw a great offer for two old classic metal miniatures and I bought them for a great price.
I converted them a bit and now welcomed them to my army.
Here is my new captain Raffael, converted from a classic metal assault sergeant. He is going to lead the army and will join the tactical squad.
For some time I was playing with the idea that my army had saved a lone Space Marine from a different chapter after a bloody compaign. After some thinking a surviving Space Wolf came to my mind as the most believeable option.
Yes, my chapter is hunted by the Inquisition because of the tragedy that happened to my home world and that most of the marines joined Chaos...
but we saved this Space Wolf, he understood that we were still fighting for the good of mankind and saw our honour, and so he joined as a lone wolf, ready to sell his life as dear as possible.
He will join the Death Company, for one because they have similar rules as lone wolves, and I imagine he is so devastated that he lost his brothers that he is drunk most of the time and falls into a drunken berserker rage...
The second miniature is a classic OOP Space Wolf Blood Claw model that I converted.
Here he is,
Eric the Blonde, a lone wolf
Eric was saved by the Angels, and his armour repaired, and out of loyalty he also wears my chapters badge beside his Space Wolf one:

I love the SW idea, grat job there.
And yes usually people do clean the mold-lines off the models. There is no hard and fast rule about it. Hey if you like them on there then all the power to you. BUT, In my humble opinion, There is nothing worse out there then a really nicely painted model that has a bloody line going through its face/arm/weapon/ etc etc etc.
One other thing, do you thin your paints? I think that if you thinned the extreme highlight you do on the edges and maybe did two thin coats it would cover better and give a nicer appearence.
Great look tho. =o]
Mike =o]
Fabricatorgeneralmike-- thanks!
Well, I dont think my mould lines are that bad...at least, they dont go through the face...
problem is, I just dont really realize they are there until I have painted.
I thought I did thin the paints... I have a palette (thats the word?) and mix the paint with water. But I am NOT very experienced, so I might think that the paint is too thin!
I even made up some thinned highlight colour for the armour extreme highlight...
but after you told me, maybe I have to thin it more.
As I said, I have not a real clue of what I am doing, so its pretty much trial and error here.
I try to improve with my next squad!
Thanks for the help!
