Mostly just base colours in now so lots to do.

Then the other figure for over here is the Gypsy pirate



Switched around some of the colours my player wanted because of the layers, but she's coming together.

I'm off sick today, but managed to get some shots of where I'm upto.


The box of stuff turned up. Largely for Khador and Trolls with few bits for Mercs and Cygnar.


The Cygnar bit is the model to finish off Constance's 35 point army. He's to go with the Sword Knights so he's next on the list to be painted and shouldn't really take very long.



New Warlock for my trolls - Jarl, Devil of Thornswood. The figure looks a lot of fun, Probably going to do the repaint on Doomshaper first though as I want to play with him.


Unit attachment for the Scattergunners. Picked up 4 more Scattergunners as well to get them up to a full unit. Once this batch of Khador is done these guys are the next to be done.

As for the Khador I'm getting there.



Slowly working on the new Sorscha. Noticed bits of design on her that I never saw on my original and trying to take my time as she'll be being used for demos for a while.


The jacks are now waiting for highlights on the black, then detail work to be done and they will be finished. Prepping the Man of Wars now and just need to straighten some weapons to start work on them properly.

Finished Sorscha last night, but the one thing that happens is you look at the photos and see some more things to tidy up.

Sorscha who I may do some more work on her face. Can't really see it when the models out due to the pose, but I want a bit more life to it.

Man Of Wars at the start of last night and now they are all past the stage on the right. Got tidying up, highlights and detail work left to do then they can be glued together and ready to be used on Sunday.

With them well on their way I've put together some more stuff to paint at some point.



Black Ivan - the new character jack. The idea is I'll paint him and the new warcaster that goes with him together. However may need to think about the scheme as he's Black to everyone else who isn't already using a Black scheme.



Then the main other figure being worked on over here is the Archduke who is pretty close to being done. Detail and highlights to do, but the main blocks are already done.

I like the numbering on the destroyers shoulder. Such a small detail, but it adds a lot.

Yeah it's something I started with when doing Beast 09 (as nothing on him said 09), but I like it. Also easier to do than Khador lettering and I'm not concerned it may say something I didn't want it to

I've been doing a Troll skin and tartan tutorial for another site whilst I paint up my scattergunners.


Starting with basics. Primed black and then exile blue as the basecoat for the tartan and Trollblood base for the skin.


The tartan is shaded with armour wash and exile blue mixed together, watered down and painted into the recesses.




The skin has a mix of 3/1 Trollblood base/underbelly blue painted on to raised areas to give muscle definition.

Tartan is highlighted with exile blue mixed with frostbite. This can be done gradually, but I tend to only do that for character models rather than troops.

The skin is given a watered down wash of Asurmen blue and you can see the highlight has been bought back in.


As a counter example to the tartan I've done a different pattern on Doomie.


Started with Bloodtracker brown as the base. Then red ink over the top. Then a badab black wash before highlighting with bloodtracker again. The menoth white highlight stripes are painted first, then I used Ordic olive to do the green, then finally scab red. I'll be highlighting the red squares with skorne red.

Skin tone looks real good on your trolls, just noticed.

Thanks Mdiscala. Took a few attempts to get it to a point I'm happy with.

Finishing off the skin.


Highlight the skin with space wolves grey watered down on just the lightest areas. If this is a bigger troll model I tend to have used flesh wash as well at some point to get a more naturalistic approach, particularly on the bigger skin areas. I've used a little around Doomshaper's mouth as well to make it a little warmer as well.

Tartan wise

Do equidistant stripes of menoth white highlight. Try and keep them thin, but you'll be going back later and tidying up all of the tartan so don't fret too much.

Do cross lines of scab red equidistant between the white stripes. Highlight the cross point with red gore to give it a bit more life. Then tidy up all the stripes with exile blue. And that's the tartan done. The basic ideas of this tartan work for most others and I operate two patterns within my army - the blue for the warriors and the brown for the spellcasters or support.

Those are the two big areas to painting trollbloods. Now on the models the main things to do are the clothes and pouches and they are pretty much done. Base browns are now done on the models so I'm hoping to have the batch of 8 done by Sunday.

Right well nothing much has been worked on for weeks due to work and then working Thought Bubble last weekend. I get a brief chance to paint today and then it's running a tournament tomorrow. I'm at Pudsey Recon next week running demos.

The Min unit of Scattergunners and unit attachment are done



Next up I think is Black Ivan and Harkevitch. I'm finishing Doomshaper at the moment and then I'll figure what unit to work on next.

Building stuff over in my Inq plog, but over here I finished painting Doomie.




Following running a tournament yesterday I'm going to paint 4 Dygmies to finish their unit, an officer for my Gunmages and Black Ivan and Harkevitch so I can use them at some point for my Khador. Only one of which was actually played yesterday, but why limit myself

Just noticed Doomie's base isn't quite done - damn.

I've started on a few Warmachine figures whilst I build the Inquisitor figures.


Black Ivan started for Khador


And his warcaster Harkevitch. Saw these guys in action so getting them done then a unit of Man of War Bombardiers so I can give them a go.

As I said in the Inquisitor plog work has been mad so not painted a lot. I managed to get a bit of time to paint on Sunday and ended up blitzing 4 pygmy burrowers to max out their unit.


Might end up having to repaint the rest of the unit.

I've started on the gunmage officer who I'm doing in the purple and grey to fit the one unit.

Figure he won't take long and it means I'm not playing Ashlynn's tier with an unpainted figure.


And then still going with Harkevitch. I've started building the 5 Bombardiers to paint and got the Troll Scouts and Jarl on the desk to start as well.
