Greetings to all.
this is my random painting thread, which I decided to crate instead of creating seperate logs for each project, because I'm a person who's wargaming intrests tend to change in regular basis, so I believe this is best way to keep the thread living.
Right now I'm working on my 40k Eldar mostly, so I'll start with those.
I might venture to world of fantasy battle during summer, and continue my dark elves. In addition I have half painted Merc force for warmachine, which I'll propably repaint and I'm itching to start Necromunda gang too.
well, without further ado, here's some wip pics of my eldar:
waveserpent wip:
I think this is most obvious start, since the model defined my "theme" or "style" I was aiming with my models. It's heavily inspired by Yellowed one's models from CMON. I wanted to find a alternate solution to cockpits of eldar vehicles, since I thought it was silly that they were literally behind the wheel, so I think this was more mystic option, as you don't even know how they steer their vehicles, or if they're even piloted(maybe the pilots are dead eldar as the soulgems?). First I had several soulgems like in orginal yellowed one's models did, but I reduced it to one, to not to directly steal his idea, and it fits beter my other vehicles, warwalker especially.. the model is just undercoated with blue spraypaint, an experiment which failed totally. I'll recoat it with black later.
the faceless look made me think that I could carry that same mysticism to other models as well. DA's:
so I decided to cover the eye lenses from the helmets too. basicly the idea is that I want my eldar to look more "SPACE elves" than "space ELVES", if you knwo what I mean. and also, no uncovered faces kind of leave you with the question what do they really look like, gives more secretive feel.
I also added dark eldar blades as bayonets. they're basicly just undercoated and some color added.
Fire dragons wip
nothing special, the same lenscovering trick. basecoated.
rangers
first painted unit (WHOOOHOOO!) the bases are unfinished though. I'll try to get "alien forest" feel for the bases, not sure how to do that yet tho :P
I decided to use only the hooded and masked ones, and there's one head swap, other than that, nothing special.
farseer:
the singing spear guy with sculpted hood and eldrad weapons. I sometimes give him singing spear, and sometimes not, so I thought that giving him staff and sword would kinda reflect this better... not sure if that works... well, he could be used as eldrad too, but i hate special characters, so that's just a theory.
last but not least, my pride, first warwalker wip.
ok... I-just-love-tripods.. and also, I think that kinda makes the army look more alien too. you'll propably know that orginally tripods were featured in H.G Wells book "war of the worlds" and in fact, Wells is considered as father of wargames, since he also wrote "floorwars" rule system somewhere in the beginning of 19th century, so my tripods are kinda tribute to him too.
I sculpted one leg, created RTV-silicone mold and casted 9 copies of it. However I screwed up the second half of the mold, so I had to sand, file and cut them afterwards, which kinda was time consuming... otherwise you'd be currently watching pic of three tripods.. ah well.
btw, I also casted some warpspider exarch jumppacks, because I don't like the orginal models for them.
Conversion is almost done, just few details are undone. I'm atm working on 2 others as I have a game next weekend, so i'll have to at least get them on their feet.
well, that's it for now. C&C is welcome.
cheers.
