    Crowmire's projects(Eldar, Dark elves, warmachine...who knows what...)

    Greetings to all.

this is my random painting thread, which I decided to crate instead of creating seperate logs for each project, because I'm a person who's wargaming intrests tend to change in regular basis, so I believe this is best way to keep the thread living.

Right now I'm working on my 40k Eldar mostly, so I'll start with those.

I might venture to world of fantasy battle during summer, and continue my dark elves. In addition I have half painted Merc force for warmachine, which I'll propably repaint and I'm itching to start Necromunda gang too.

well, without further ado, here's some wip pics of my eldar:

    waveserpent wip:

I think this is most obvious start, since the model defined my "theme" or "style" I was aiming with my models. It's heavily inspired by Yellowed one's models from CMON. I wanted to find a alternate solution to cockpits of eldar vehicles, since I thought it was silly that they were literally behind the wheel, so I think this was more mystic option, as you don't even know how they steer their vehicles, or if they're even piloted(maybe the pilots are dead eldar as the soulgems?). First I had several soulgems like in orginal yellowed one's models did, but I reduced it to one, to not to directly steal his idea, and it fits beter my other vehicles, warwalker especially.. the model is just undercoated with blue spraypaint, an experiment which failed totally. I'll recoat it with black later.

the faceless look made me think that I could carry that same mysticism to other models as well. DA's:

so I decided to cover the eye lenses from the helmets too. basicly the idea is that I want my eldar to look more "SPACE elves" than "space ELVES", if you knwo what I mean. and also, no uncovered faces kind of leave you with the question what do they really look like, gives more secretive feel.
I also added dark eldar blades as bayonets. they're basicly just undercoated and some color added.

    Fire dragons wip

nothing special, the same lenscovering trick. basecoated.

    rangers

first painted unit (WHOOOHOOO!) the bases are unfinished though. I'll try to get "alien forest" feel for the bases, not sure how to do that yet tho :P
I decided to use only the hooded and masked ones, and there's one head swap, other than that, nothing special.

    farseer:

the singing spear guy with sculpted hood and eldrad weapons. I sometimes give him singing spear, and sometimes not, so I thought that giving him staff and sword would kinda reflect this better... not sure if that works... well, he could be used as eldrad too, but i hate special characters, so that's just a theory.

last but not least, my pride, first warwalker wip.

ok... I-just-love-tripods.. and also, I think that kinda makes the army look more alien too. you'll propably know that orginally tripods were featured in H.G Wells book "war of the worlds" and in fact, Wells is considered as father of wargames, since he also wrote "floorwars" rule system somewhere in the beginning of 19th century, so my tripods are kinda tribute to him too.
I sculpted one leg, created RTV-silicone mold and casted 9 copies of it. However I screwed up the second half of the mold, so I had to sand, file and cut them afterwards, which kinda was time consuming... otherwise you'd be currently watching pic of three tripods.. ah well.
btw, I also casted some warpspider exarch jumppacks, because I don't like the orginal models for them.
Conversion is almost done, just few details are undone. I'm atm working on 2 others as I have a game next weekend, so i'll have to at least get them on their feet.

well, that's it for now. C&C is welcome.

    cheers.

THe rangers look awesome, the colours all seem to just flow together. The war walker is great, reminded me of 'War of the Worlds' striaght away.

    Looking forward to more!

Very nice indeed, looking forward to seeing more work on the walker. Where did you get the legs from?

Oh and BTW H.G Wells wasn't born until the mid-late 19th century so it is unlikely he wrote the rules until the the late 19th/early 20th

    Thanks for comments guys.

Spikedog, yeah, a misstype there(not only one, I fixed like 20 typo's this morning, was in a bit hurry when I wrote that).

like I said, I sculpted one leg, made mold of it, melted some old ugly minis and casted 9 copies of it. I decided to use metal instead of resin, as I thought I could bend them for easy pose alterration, but it seems they're too thick for bending :/ (from the joins at least)

+1 in appreciation of your Rangers and Walker.

Any other conversion ideas for this army? Either way, I look forward to seeing more.

Re: Crowmire's projects(Eldar, Dark elves, warmachine...who knows what...)

    yes, I have few ideas.

well, I mentioned the warpspider backpacks already, so I will convert them from something... I'll propably wait for the realease of new DE, if i could find something from the new range that could be used as base for converting them, scourges maybe?

Also, every HQ will be somekind of conversion. I've started to work on two autarchs, but they're not wery high on my priority list. The wip farseer here is propably the most straightforward HQ conversion there will be..

and last idea is scratch built night wing, which is in planning/scetching stage, I have some bitz from my dark eldar times which I'll be using on that and I've purchased some plasticard for that too. That might take awhile to do though, as I've never worked with plasticard or done any scratchbuilds.

I'll try to keep you updated, but I should be graduating this spring, but my (unfinished)degreework delays it to next fall/winter, so I'll propably be quite busy with that for awhile.

Interesting take on the walker, I like it, makes it seems a bit creepy! The rangers look great, the cloaks have come out looking really good.

I'm really liking the tripod, though I think the legs can benefit from some embellishment. Just a little plating around the joints to bring it closer to the rest of the line would bring it from a cool idea to completely amazing, in my opinion.

You can tell this is going to be a good one.....

I love the war walkers legs, and the rarranges gun mounts. Not convinced about the canopy at the moment, it think its a bit too war of the worlds, but we'll see how it turns out

The farseer is great too, i had the idea of scuplting cloaks on everything a few years ago, but it never came to anything (and im not good enough at sculpting) but youve pulled it off very well there

Re: Crowmire's projects(Eldar, Dark elves, warmachine...who knows what...)

No, I'm not dead, nor are my projects.

    Here's some proof:

I started running a pathfinder RPG and here's some reaper goblins I did for first adventure. Leader and basic bastards.

Shaman and some more basic bastards.

The "end boss" of first andventure: Barghest. I did some minor conversions on this one. I'ts a reaper's goblin wolf model, but I resculpted his front legs to make him look slightly larger and to make him look like the barghest in this picture:

Also, my eldar are advancing slowly, but I'm quite happy where I am now, because now I only need another fireprism and my collection for current edition is finished. I'll buy more when new Codex comes out. I re-converted the farseer, and also converted an Autarch(and bunch of other stuff as well). Characters aside, everythings primed with blue and ready for painting.

Right now trying to convert/assemble my dark elves so that I can actually start playing the damn game again. I've had somekind of mental block, because my dark rider conversions were too time and effort consuming. I just never felt like picking up the sculpting tools and finishing them. Now they're almost done and I can move on.

anyway, some shots of my cabinet. didn't use camera stand here, so had to use flash and blah blah. Sorry for bad pic quality.

I promise to update this more often. You'll get better pics of stuff once they're painted.

    Cheers.

Re: Crowmire's projects(Eldar, Dark elves, warmachine...who knows what...)

    Oh, one more thing.

When I still played WoW I converted this figure to represent my character while I was waiting in BG/dungeon que:

it still needs some filing and sanding, the vanity pet(sprite darter hatchling) and tree/base needs lots of work before I can start painting.
I'll propably start working on him when I get back to wow(which won't be anytime soon, maybe spring *shrug*)

the details are really hard to see in the pics, but you'll just have to wait until he's painted and all.

Nice work crowmire. Especially loving the Eldar. Rangers are looking fantastic and I cant wait to see what the rest look like finished. Especially like the change of legs on the walkers. Works really well.

Id say they are some alround brilliant conversions. Also, those rangers you painted 2 years ago are insanely good, you need to get down to some more eldar painting with all that blue sat in your mini cabinet

    Thanks!

Yeah, I should paint eldar stuff too, before I forget the color formulas(I mix my colors from normal artists acrylics), but I'd like toget decent sized dark elf force assembled/converted before I start painting. No one likes playing with or against proxy armies. Well, unpainted army isn't good either, but at least they have the main color sprayed already, better than plastic gray I think.

oh, by the way, earlier I was talking about my degree work and such. So yes, 1 ½ years ago I did graduate as graphic designer/illustrator.
Some of my (fantasy/sci-fi related) works from my degree work can be seen here: http://crowmire.deviantart.com/gallery/
