Thread: Precinct Omega - Ultramarines Battlezone

Re: Precinct Omega - Ultramarines Battlezone

Well, in the headlines this week: I bought an airbrush! So I've been going to town big-time on the Aegis barriers, but they aren't much to look at just yet. So, instead, here's a picture of the progress so far on the Realm of Battle:

The main barrier to progress on this one has been the fact that the two tubs of static grass that GW puts in its terrain-painting set... aren't adequate to cover the whole of the RoB. Dammit.

    Update time!

The rest of the RoB would be finished by now, except... Those bloody pots of static grass!! Seriously, folks, if you're thinking about doing static grass on a RoB, you need to budget for it. Each standard GW pot will cover one (1) 2'x2' section. If you go for a heavy coverage, you won't even manage that. I've been really sparing and, with four pots, plus my own private supply, I've managed to cover about four and two-thirds boards.

However, I'm looking forward to finishing this project in the next few days.

Depends, I guess on how puritannical you get about the grass. I've ended up with a flock/grass crate. Got a really really big box, and collected many bags of different types of flock, static grass etc and then mixed it all together. Cost hundreds I'm sure, but is an alternate possibility and slightly cheaper than full grass-only coverage. I got one for sand/gravel too. Won't look at good as the proper stuff though!
Horus' Throne Room / Imperial Town - re-opened, hurrah!
40K Scale Leviathan - Physical and Virtual!

Dannage is currently seeking conversion bits to turn Cadian guardsmen and Orks into casualties. If anyone in the South East of England has some bits they are willing to convert or cast up, pm me regards samples and costs.

Today I am trying to finish off all the little bits and bobs:

I've got loads of these, all done basically like this so, rather than spam you with everything that's done, here's an example of everything.

@Dannage - That's a good plan and I'll probably do that the next time I have to do some terrain like this for myself. The client was pretty specific about what he wanted, though, so more static grass is really my only option, here.

    EDIT:

    Barriers!

Cool, shaping up nicely. though to me the tripod turrets seem a little bland all monochrome as they are, perhaps some gold on the skulls and blue and yellow or something for the wires

looks very nice however, you dont a good, might i suggest you dont get your static grass from GW, just go to a model railway shop, you will get it like half the price

Only thing i would suggest here is your use a darker color on the top of the glass rather than just a lighter color on the bottom

I would second model railway static grass.
Woodland Scenics sales static grass in 32oz (819 Cu. cm) containers for between $7 to $10 depending on where you buy it.

If you have the time a few close up shots of the board would be nice.

With the assistance of Woodland Scenics, I finally got the table finished. Unfortunately I can't show it to you with the buildings on it, as I've already sent them to the client, but here you are:

    Phew. Another job finished!

What is the name of the yellow static grass you get in RoB kit? Just wondering if it is the same as the normal yellow static grass.
