Both are rather more tricky casters, Strakhov looks easy but is so very hard to use.

I have 2 temple flameguards in b2b contact with Shield Wall order. One gets hit by an AoE 3 attack, so the 2nd one gets the blast damage.

Since the attack is resolved simultaneously, do I still get my +4 armor for shield wall on the roll for the blast damage after the main target has been killed by the direct hit?
Basically do they both benefit of Shield wall until the attack is fully resolved?

Yes, since it's simultaneous they both get the Shield wall benefit.

hi all have a bit of a question about psorcha. in 2 games i played with her i pulled something off with her in 1 it was allowed the other it wasnt and was looking for clarification, heres what i did. psorcha moved her normal 6 inch, cast wind rush (moved another 6), shot with her hand cannon, then cast boundless charge to get into melee (moved another 8) where i used the rest of my focus to pound my opponents warcaster. in the first game it was allowed but in the second i was told i cant do wind rush + boundless charge in the same activation. i argued i could as both are magic, am i right?

also a quick question re: freezing grip. in the description it says target model/unit without immunity cold becomes stationary for 1 round. does this mean if i target a model thats a part of a unit and hit the whole unit can be made stationary? or just that model? as its not an AOE? as to me when it says model it seems to be referring to a solo where as a unit is a group of men and you cant hit a unit as its not an AOE. am i explaining my self ok?

finally re: valachev's frostbite spell. it says models suffer a pow 12 cold damage roll but what is a cold damage roll? i might be missing it in the rule book but i cant find it, i can find the likes of fire + corrosion. are hit models made stationary?

you can use both, but the way in which you used them was wrong. you dont move, wind rush, and charge. this isnt 40k. wind rush can be applied in 2 ways. cast it at the start of your activation, and it moves you 6". then you cast boundless charge, and declare a charge against your target, and you charge move+5". the other way is akin to a crisis suit, by declaring a charge (with or without bounless charge), do some clobbering, and then cast wind rush and whish out of melee.

for the record though, you're getting some things mixed up with 40k. you dont charge 8 on top of a move of 6, and a wind rush of another 6. boundless charge is a straight up spd+5" charge instead of a spd+3" charge. there is no "assault phase" where your charge movement is done after your movement. in effect, your charge replaces your normal move.

also, unless you have the "virtuoso" special rule, you cant do both ranged attacks, and melee attacks in the same turn as you have done. you cant mix them either (as in, initial ranged attacks, and bought-with-focus additional melee attacks). you either use her gun, or frostfang. its one or the other. check the rulebook under "initial attacks" and it should explain in more detail how these work.

EDIT: to clarify on the spell issue. your friend was incorrect in stating you cant windrush, and boundless charge. neither of these are upkeeps. upkeep spells are the spells that you can (a) only have 1 of on a model/unit, and (b) one "copy" of the upkeep in play at any one time. for example, stryker cant have "snipe" cast on 2 units. neither can he have "snipe" and "blur" cast on a single model/unit.

if the target model is part of a unit, the unit is made stationary, hence model/unit.

its in the rulebook. just like fire damage, corrosion damage, and cold damage. page 68. its a damage type. models with immunity cold are immune to it and wont take damage.

hordes factions generally go more beast heavy than warmachine factions. On the troll side, both Doomshapers are well known for being able to run beast heavy with only limited supporting pieces being useful. Skorne are funny - there really is no one way to run them. i've seen beast light and beast heavy. morghul is more assassin themed, and makeda prefers infantry, but they can all take multiple beasts and do well. as a general rule of thumb, hordes factions *need* to take 3-4 beasts in an average 35, or 50pt game, while WM factions can get away with 1 or 2, and take more infantry.

ultimately though, its really up to you.

The Skorne warlocks that provide the best beast buffs are Master tormentor Morghoul, Master ascetic Naaresh and Tyrant Xerxis. They all have pretty low FURY values however so definitely need beasthandlers (but then again, they are so good that you'll never run without them).

Only the epic version, pMorghoul focuses on beast support and infantry shredding.

pMakeda mainly, and only for her feat really. eMakeda really works great with a bunch of beasts.

I don't own any Warmahordes models right now, and I've played just one game. I think it was 15 points or so, with proxied models. (I used a jar of preserves to represent my Crusader warjack.)

I really would like to pick up some minis and play, but I want to know what sort of scope I'm looking at if I get a battle box (or even 2 battle boxes).

    Thanks

The Khador army is 20 points and the Menoth army is 21 points.

The Circle army is 20 points and the Legion army is 21 points.

In both cases I'd recommend buying some small stuff right away (a minor unit or some solos) to bring the armies in the starter boxes up to 25 points.
I would definitely recommend against getting two battle boxes of the same sort to double up on the content. Generally in Warmachine you want diversity in your choices, not spam.
They are an amazing deal however, and if you want to start one of the armies that are included in a two player box then you should definitely go for it, it's a huge money saver and the models included are pretty beginner friendly, they don't have too many crazy special rules.

I want to start playing Warmachine and i have some questions if you are kind enough to answer me:
    1) How much does it cost to play a standard game (is it 35pts?)
    2) Is the Cryx battlegroup worth it? (and can i play Degehra as the epic one?)
    3) Are the unit within a single faction balanced to eachother? For example i like the Epic Lich Lord Asphyxios model, is it viable in game?
    4) Is it fun?

    Thanks in advance

    1) depends, really. personally, i've spent upwards of £1500 on warmachine stuff, and havent gone about 50pts. that said, if you stick with a basic core of stuff, and swap out a unit, jack and a warcaster or two on occassion, you can get a perfectly viable army, with reasonable options for £100-£200. my 25pt circle army (which did quite well at tournaments too) cost me £80.

    2) yup. the slayer is always useful. same with the chickens. and denny is generally regarded as a top notch caster at all levels.

    3) yup. pretty much. some things will get more play time than others, and whilst the interwebs will tell you "this is great", thats not to say that "the otherthing" isnt also good. Dont be afraid to limit yourself into thinking that all that is good is kayazy and the winter guard deathstar. all that does is limit you as a player. simply put, everything can be built into an effective, winning strategy. and epic gaspy is nasty. very, very good caster.

    4) yup.

    2) The models in the battlebox are all good, but you might not use them all together very often when you've gotten more stuff. The model you get is the regular Deneghra, if you want to play epic Deneghra you need the epic model. Your friends might allow you to proxy her at first but at tournaments and organized play you need the correct models.

    3) Generally yes, most of the stuff is viable. I'd recommend you to stay away from the "Cephalyx mind slaver & Drudges" unit though, it is generally considered to be very subpar. Lich lord Asphyxious is one of the best warcasters in the entire game, so yes, he is viable.

    4) Very fun!
