New Eldar Avatar

I am, at this very moment, holding a sculpt of a new Eldar Avatar. I am told the Avatar is being looked at to go to production as a plastic kit containing all options. And will be released with the future Eldar Codex. When, you ask? I have been told, "Not for a while." and "When its done."

Specific changes I note:
Does not look like FW version.
Avatar's head is more expressive.
Molten-y look is much more impressive. Bits of fire are evident.
Bloody hand much more bloody...new blood angels may have been an inspiration.
Headdress is more warpstone, elegant, vs current boxey glyph look.
Lots of little details within the armor...it's hard to describe, but its a lot of small detail.
I'm told it will be able to be assembled in various poses, despite the detail.

This one is oversized, so its hard to just scale, but I'd guess he'll be about the same height as a wraithlord, maybe a touch bigger.

So, anyone like to make any predictions as to when we'll start seeing this sculpt?

(although the pessimistic part of me is muttering "pics or it's a lie", but i can beat that into submission )

I don't suppose you have any idea if there will be any plastic aspects, do you?

I wouldn't expect it next year:

DE where not to be released for a very long them when they first said "when its done"

Furthermore some of the next codices will be:
Grey Knights
Dark Eldar
Necrons

And Witch Hunters/ Sister of battle should also get a fifth edition book.

All in all I think the chances of a CE codex next year are small, on the other hand GW works in mysterious ways, so show knows.

Interesting.. a posable avatar... sounds good- i take it "options" might be weapons? different heads? Wouldn't have expected it go plastic- but wouldn't complain either! cheers for sharing.

If this is true, then I hope you get a really nice severance package when they fire you for giving away the inside scoop. How many people could possibly have handled this thing? How many employees are going to be scrutinized due to this leak? I hope you have a good alibi or another job lined up.

Don't get me wrong. I'm grateful (and very excited) for the rumors, but I sure hope you're not costing someone a job.

If this is fact, I'm betting the Dark Eldar and Eldar will both have avatars now. Or they're going to do a double release...

Wow, thanks for that stickmonkey. It makes sense I guess that if the model designers are in an Eldar frame of mind (for the Spinner/Prism and support weapon), that one should tell them to go ahead and work on other things in that aesthetic.

One question: would you know who sculpted it? Oh, all right, another question: what do you mean, "all options"? Currently it has none, aside from weapons that don't change its rules.

As most people know the Eldar Codex isnt for sometime. If this new rumour is true maybe this new Avatar is for a second-wave Spearhead release.

*SPECULATION* Maybe thats a roundabout way of saying it will be customizable to some degree in the next codex, like a special character. *SPECULATION*

I imagine that the actual options included would be limited. Maybe some interchangeable legs to alter the pose, arms with separate hands, then 2-3 sets of hands, such as bare ones with blood, and a right and left version of wailing doom as a spear or sword. If the waist and neck can swivel some, you can get a lot of posability with minimal loss of detail.

Honestly, I don't see it as an indicator of a new release, just the next big metal model blister to go plastic, like the killa kans. Scaling it up makes it look far more impressive on the table as well, a better match for the other monstrous critters.

Wow, GW seems to be working on many armies at once, ever since they ended the one-army-at-a-time development schedule.

The WD 127 Eldar Avatar was customizable in the sense that each one got random stats that had to be rolled before the game started. 1st ed. Avatars also got to use several Exarch Warrior Powers. Apparently the dev. team's sense of nostalgia continues to influence their designs.

What I'm hoping for is a level of customization for the Avatar similar to the daemon prince or carnifex.

Well I'm excited. I would not expect to see it any time soon but I do hope GW makes it into a multi-part plastic kit. For now I guess it'll sit on the shelf with the redesigned Eldar Jetbike Jess did.

Does it come with a terrain piece of Marneus Calgar on a step ladder? Just for completeness?

It'd be nice if he actually represented all the aspects that supposedly make him up. A long range weapon, a medium ranged one, a short range and different melee options. Rather than 'hulk smash' which is far more Khorne.
