    Clunkers (Ork Walkers)

I've just made the most impulsive warhammer related purchase and started on a trip of building a killa-kan themed army.

I already got the models for two deff dreads, nine killa kans, and two big meks with kustom force fields. As I proceed I will keep you guys updated.

    Here's the tester model.

    ------------

    Look a ter starz,
Look hah ther shine fer you,
    And everayzin yer do,
    Yeh dey wer all yellah

    [Refrain]
    Yar skin
Oh yeh yer skin and bonez
    Tarn inter sumfing beauterful
Yer knaw I make ya bleed yerself dry
I make ya bleed yarsef dry

    Orkplay - Yellah

    Step 1 Basing

As promised, here's the tutorial for preparing the model.

1: Assembled the model, glued small rocks to the base using wood glue
2: Applied thinned down wood glue to the base
3: Covered the base in chinchilla sand
    4: Removed excess sand
5: Dripped thinned down wood glue on the sand (this fixates the entire base, no more lose sand dramas)
    6: Let it cure.
7: Undercoated it white. It's really important to get a very thorough cover of white, if you don't do this you'll see the grey plastic shine through when you apply the yellow.

    Step 2: Painting them Yellah
And here's how I did the yellah:

1: Undercoated the entire thing yellah (Vallejo Amarillo), I needed two coates. The hardest thing is to avoid air bubbles which might appear if you paint too fast/rough.
2: Mix a tiny (!) bit of vermin brown with a lot of Vallejo Medium Mate and a bit of water. This is the most defining part of the stage. The amount of vermin brown compared to the medium defines the level of the shade, the amount of water defines the smoothness of the shade. No water would mean a very gradual change of colour which might be fun for organic surfaces, but for mechanic stuff you want a bit more sharpness so add a bit of water.
3: You're not supposed to see the effect right away, so don't be fooled, it will turn out darker than you might expect.
4: The finished result of the wash.

5: Here's the final result, I applied 50/50 Skull white and Amarillo as highlights. I decided against going over it again with another skull white extreme highlight as that would make the model look bleak.

So there you go. Stay tuned for more updates. I has planz.

Looks great! The tut on how you painted it is a nice touch, might give it a try just kicks and grins.

That's a promissing start for the army. I bet it will hurt your eyes looking at the army once it's finished as it is so bright! Oh.. and that's a good thing!

That looks very cool, definitely going to be a stompy army when it's done.

Here's the same technique on non-yellow surfaces, this time I used scorched brown as 'pigment'

I'm REALLY happy with medium matte, it does exactly as it says on the bottle, a matte finish that can easily be build upon with further highlights.

I didn't know you could do that with acrylic medium.
    I'll have to try that.

You almost make me want to start an ork army, almost...

    Re: Clunkers (Ork Walkers)

You know you want... just do it.

That looks great, keep it up. I've never seen so many fully painted horde armies as current ork players lol.

Awesome - more please! You have done an excellent job on the yellow, which IMO is a horrible colour to paint.

Thanks! My little sister demanded her camera back so I'll have to buy myself one before I can continue.

The next stage would be the black surfaces and the metal parts. For the metal parts I'm going to need yet again another pot of matte medium.
