    The League of Ostermark

    Hi guys,

Slowly but surely I fell in love with the empire range of figs. I know, I know big feathers and tight pants. I bought the Marius leitdorf figure and the Chaos Lord aka "death dealer". I decided that the one I painted first would be the next army I collect...

There are a few thing to touch up and go over but he is basically done and I am quite happy with him.

One problem though I actually base coated him during winter. It was Norway's coldest winter since the ice age so I couldn't spray him. SO I made some magic undercoat paint from Chaos black and Calthan brown. Big mistake it is quite brittle and vulnerable to rubbing off and general wear and tear. I will have to varnish him before I can even think of transporting him.

He looks really great. I love the colour scheme of purple and gold, it really stands out!

Excellent work, I look forward to seeing more (so hurry up! ).

Thanks for the comment Oro - dont worry updates will be coming.

So just over a month a go GW Uxbridge had a NMM competiton. I wasn't actually able to enter due to volcanic activity but here is my effort anyway. I had never attempted NMM before this. I don't think I spent more than a couple of hours on him in total. Actually I thought it turned out all right.

Also he doesn't look weird next to guys painted with metallic paint.

Those molten looking hammers are so good. How did you do them?

I tell ya what, those are the best painted hammers I have ever seen.

Step by step tutorial on how to paint molten weapons? I think so :P

I'm not an NMM expert, but to me his armour looks really good. Especially for a first attempt! Excellent job

And, like the others above me have said, those hammers are really great. They look so hot! I would also love to know the secret recipe

    Re: The League of Ostermark

Hey thanks for the positivityness. The molten hammers were inspired by the warrior priest from the W:AR video. How cool is this guy.

I painted them yellow as a basecoat. Then put a few faint blazing orange washes on them until they looked as "hot" as you might believe. Then put orange/red washes on top adding more red as you build out to the edges. Then I painted the edges scorched brown and put a few scorched brown flecks around to look like cooler chips.

I kept the paint wet and thin, and used it sparingly. You might think it takes for ever but it was quite quick to do.

I think the key is not to cover too wide a range of colour across a small area.

The image below was the inspiration or perhaps the blueprint for the colour scheme...

I have always liked Ostermark because of it's unusual colour scheme.

Thanks for that. I am definitely going to try that out, and if it goes well I might do a whole unit of greatswords like that, or even pikemen in molten armour !

    Re: The League of Ostermark

It is his party trick and impresses the pants off many a sister of sigmar.

I actually considered doing some source lighting off the hammers but I also considered that I was pretty much in the lead with regards to the NMM and the molten look so I called it even at that

I think the molten armour thing could be an awesome diorahama to have a lore of gold wizard stood over a few guys with molten armour.

Marius L. is good in his rich colours, but the hammers are hard to beat. If nothing else, they certainly explain the warrior priest's strained face!

Those hammers are great. They are really convincing and, no offence here, much better than your NMM :P

    Re: The League of Ostermark

    Hey again guys.

The Perry's Greatswords are among my fav figures of all time. They are alittle out of scale with the new figures but they are still marvelous and a joy to paint.

I just finished up the command group a few days ago. The rest of the unit is already done. I will post up a pick of the whole unit later. I am quite pleased with the banner. I am thinking that maybe all of the normal banners in the army will be black and white. It adds a sinister look to the purple and yellow flair. There are also plently of small patches of black armour with white imperial crosses, these have been gloss varnished and look quite nice in real life.

The next unit will be 10 Knights. tbh I think both the Reiksguard and the white wolves are over exposed. Having played a knight in WAR I reckon KotBS will look quite nice in the army.

    Re: The League of Ostermark

Okay I got the rest of the unit together for a team photo.

Like I said I added a few embelishments here and there to test my patience if nothing else

    More imperial crosses....

Working on the knights horses right now.

I like these very much, nice work on the freehand details! One small issue will you do a second coat on the bases they are a bit streaky (dangerously close to historicals thee )

haha I am running dangerously low on calthan brown But yeah the bases need two coats - problem is it's such a nice matt colour it works as anything: leather, fur, mud.

I have ordered some from malestrom but it still hasn't arrived. I blame the post office at this stage.
