    The Rise of the Grot

    Hello Warseer.

    I've decided I'm now good enough to avoid total ridicule, and thus is born "The Rise of The Grot". I've been thinking about joining a local gaming club, but they only accept painted models (and not my sea of grey), and so I'm going to have to paint some stuff. Since I already have to paint an army, I felt I might as well build the Grot army I've been considering for the last two years, and then paint that instead.

    The army concept of this thread has changed (due to Grave Diggers advice, and the arrival of IA8), and thus a few of the first posts might seem a wee bit wierd. I've included the original pictures that were commented on, to keep a sense of continuity. My thousand point army will be something like this:

    Da Red Revolusionary Rebellion.

    * Lord Kommanda Zhappa (Big Mek, will have a grot lord model)

    * Battle Fortress (will use the Bigmek Junka from IA8, with Tripple Scorchas, Deff Rolla, and Two Grot Bombs)

    * Grot Tank Battle Mob (3, With Rokkits and Kommanda Tank, rules in IA8)

    * Grot Tank Battle Mob (3, With Rokkits and Kommanda Tank, rules in IA8)

    * Grots (10 + Kommisar Grot)

    * Grots (10 + Kommisar Grot)

    * Grots (10 + Kommisar Grot)

    * Grots (10 + Kommisar Grot)

    * Killbots (Killa Kanz, 3, With Grotzookas)

    * Killbots (Killa Kanz, 3, With Grotzookas)

    * Artillery (Kannons, 2, 3 Ammo Runts)

    994 points so far.

    Re: The Rise of the Grot

    "Da Krafty Teks" are what keeps all the Kans running. The Grots are smart, and they have the tools to do it. In game my Big Mek will accompany them, so they can actually repair vehicles. Still missing a few models in the squad, but these are my focus right now.

    Edit: The Krafty Teks have been retasked, and will become krew on the various tanks.

    Re: The Rise of the Grot

    Da Kommando Grots have enjoyed unexpected success. They've been in two games so far, and have survived both, and in one of the games they toughed out two rounds of melee with Guardsman Marbo himself, untill a few Killbots came in and saved them. They would have killed Marbo, but he made two 5+ saves and denied them their first real Melee kill.

    Awesome work!

    Dig the little fellow with the pistol behind the crate. Excellent. What will you be using for the runt herders? For some reason having Orks does not fit the bill. Might I suggest:

    I picked up a pack to be used as Kommisars in my Rebel Grot Imperial Guard army.

    Keep up the good work,

    Re: The Rise of the Grot

    You got me there... it's an issue I haven't worked out.

    The Generals, or the Russian Grot footsoldiers, just don't "feel" right. They are awesome models, and I'm considering fielding a unit of them, but as handlers for the other units they would not really fit in.

    Another option is to use the Runtherder models, but "beat them up badly", chain them up, and apply bandages. The model would be correct, and fluffwise it would make sense for rebel grots to lug around their old boss and poke him with sharp things once in a while. Loosing 1d3 grots to a leadership reroll, could be explained by the herder sensing weakness and going for a little payback.

    Any other ideas are very welcome!

    Hmmmm....

    Well, Night Goblins on squigs could be made to work. How about goblin wolf rideres on squigs? Just some thoughts.

    That could definatly work! ... I'll have to see what I can do about those, although conversions will be hell on metal miniatures

    Re: The Rise of the Grot

    I was thinking the easier way to do it is grab these:
    http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/ca...Id=prod1160170

    And use the goblin wolf riders as the mounts. Plastic on metal and the goblins are easy to convert. On the bright side, you would only have to make 4

    Major cluster****...

    So, I bought a pack of the Russian Grots, and they look amazing. I decided on the spot, that my grot core would change to army grots, and I'd use my already converted grots for something else.

    Da Sneaky Stabbas will become "Da Kommandos", featuring melee weapons and all sorts of fancy stuff.

    Lamoron,

    Sorry but you can't theme your army around the Russian Grots, that's my theme I've only got the long coat figs and the heads but I'm very impressed with them. How are the normal troops?

    Love the Mek idea, may have to loot that one for my own needs.

    Re: The Rise of the Grot

    Hmm, I must have russian Grots... I've only gotten the basic set 2, with ten greatcoat russian Grots, but man they look amazing. I'm not home for a couple of days, but when I get there, I'll get them painted up (and hopefully not varnished to death this time).

    Time for an update...

    I got the Killa Kanz assembled, and I've begun painting my first batch of Russian Grots (still needing highlights, basing and some final details).

    Re: The Rise of the Grot

    The Russian Infantry Runtherder is needing a lot of work. He's a sergeant with a machinegun, just like in ww2 russia where the officers would gun down infantry that attempted to retreat (give them not one inch of russian soil). Statswise he's just a Runtherder ofcourse, and apperantly his machinegun is a 12" range single shot model

    Edit: I'm changing that to Grot kommisars, because MAN they look amazing.

    Re: The Rise of the Grot

    I've been a bit on hiatus, due to constructing Stompas for an Apocalypse game (somehow the rebel grots got themselves involved in planetary scale warfare, and had to construct a couple of stompas to survive), but last night I did some preliminary work on my Red Revolusionary Battle Fortress, which will use the IA8 rules for Mekboy Junkas.

    The army concept is oficially changed to Russian grots, and the first Kommisar grot, got his foundation paint last night as well.

    I'll be changing the first couple of posts to reflect this tonight if I can find the time.

    Re: The Rise of the Grot

    The Red Revolusionaries have participated in a few games now, and to everyones suprise we've yet to loose.

    Game 1.
    This was a doubles game (every player had 750 points), with my Imperial Guard partner versus Tau & Blood Angels. We had them wiped from the table in turn 5, but had to spend the last two rounds of the game shooting at one damn BA captain that just refused to die. I had one tank remaining (as my only model), but my IG partner had only lost a single Chimera.

    Game 2.
    This was a doubles game again (every player had 1000 points), with my Blood Angels partner, versus Imperial Guard & Blood Angels. I didn't really do much this game, other than fail my objectives and absorb ridiculous amounts of enemy fire, but we did end up wiping the board. We counted up victory points, and my BA partner had killed 1500 points of their army. Still, Red Revolusionaries Vs. world, 2-0.

    Game 3.
    This was my first 1v1 game (1500 points each), so I was rather exited to see the results. It was against Tyranids, and I almost felt sorry when I saw the list (Bringing the Swarmlord to fight Grots probably defines attempted overkill, and he's really really vulnerable to an army that can put him down, on average, in a single round with Rokkits)

    * Swarmlord
    * DoM on foot
    * Pyrovore in pod
    * 2x Tervigon
    * 2x Termagaunts (20)
    * Termagaunts (12)
    * 2 Hive Guards
    * Tyrannofex

    I think that was it... well, the Tyrannofex made something like 13 consecutive 2+ saves in the last round of the game, but had he failed a couple, I'd have wiped him of the board as well. I have to say, that this might very well be temporary, but hot diggity damn those Grots kick ass, and "go to ground" is a Grots best friend (silly DoM reduced itself to 2 wounds when 7/8 grots made that 3+ cover save).

    The first pictures of the WIP Battle Fortress, and a WIP grot unit. I'm planning on adding two large missiles to be Grot Bombs, and do some extensive work on the jet engine this weekend.

    I don't know why, but your battlewagon looks a little unbalanced,

    I think it's the gun turret it so far forward compared to the tracks. It could also be the photo. Side view?

    Re: The Rise of the Grot

    Not a little, a lot the only thing keeping it up, is the Deff Rolla, but I'll post a shot of it tomorrow when my hangover clears. It's not a battle wagon though, it uses the rules for a Mekboy Junka, as I didn't really feel my Grots should have AV14, aaand because the Junka is awesome (19" range Deff Rolla!).

    Edit: thought about putting some wheels on behind the rolla, but I figured the push from the rocket exhaust should be able to lift up the nose a bit when it needs to advance anyway.
