I'm really glad someone enjoyed it. Luck for me on that day was pretty average at the end of the day, come to think of it. Even my pal's luck was only slightly better than average. It was just the way things are with a daemon army.
That rhino is phenomenal! Still, it did have 3 turns to shoot at my daemonettes, so it is only to be expected. I was footslogging it all the way, after being blown off course for the deep strike roll, and then rolling 1s and 2s to run during the shooting phase.
Yes I finally did! It felt really great to play some games. As for the daemonette chariot, I take that as a compliment?![]()
Okay, on to the 2nd game of the campaign... so the rescued Chaplain divulges that the daemonic occurences on the city of Anderros are due to the efforts of a shadowy figure, who has been forming various chaos cults throughout the city. His suspicion is that he is one of the Fallen!
True enough...
Sirrioussam, one of those who turned from the true path, has been behind all the recurring daemonic infestation in the city!
Mission: Annihilation - Hunt the Fallen! Sirrioussam is worth 3 VP instead of the normal 1. Also, if he is shot down or cut down in close combat, we do not remove him from the playing board but have to 'claim' his body. If the Dark Angels capture him, then the next mission will be to extract the prisoner. If the Daemons hold on to him, or if he does not fall in battle, then the Dark Angels will be playing a rearguard/escape from the board mission because the battle barge orbiting the planet is going to raze Anderros to the ground and they have to escape before that happens.
The battlefield:
Deployment:
The Dark Angels Ravenwing and Deathwing deploy on the roads of one side of the board. The idea is that they had already teleported into the city and are walking through it to look for Sirrioussam.
At the end of the road, on the other side of the board, Sirrioussam leads a squad of bloodletters to meet the enemy, confident that the mulititudes of Daemons appearing all over the city will come to his aid.
The Dark Angels move up, the Ravenwing bikes turbo boosting in their eagerness to engage Sirrioussam...
Daemons materialize!
You shall not pass! (okay, they just shot the poor beast of nurgle to bits and then went past him. Still, it did its job in blocking the road for one turn)
Belial, his squad and the Dreadnought fire upon the Plaguebearers, bringing down 2 of them!
Flamers appear on the rear of the terminators and open fire! They take down... nothing, much to my disgust. Termi armor is impenetrable...
and their return fire is formidable...
Because the slow and purposeful rolls for the plaguebearers were rather... slow (ahem... I rolled double 1s to move and then rolled a 2 for the running part), the first squad of termis slammed into them. The ensuing combat was ugly and the plaguebearers were sent packing back to the warp... (and oh that was a nurgling base that's not done, just in case you were wondering why there is a strange 40mm base lying around on the road)
My cunning opponent moves them out of sight from Kugath and his necrotic missiles, choosing to hide under the bridge...
More daemons materialize! The horrors spat more warpfire at the marines... but the Emperor's finest shrugged off everything... everything...
Daemonettes appear too.
In desperation (the pleasurable sort of course), they move out, fleet and assault the next squad of terminators...
Much to my delight...
And then, the next squad of terminators charge in, much to my opponent's delight this time...
The Khorne dogs (oh, how Khorne-y) leap into the fray with the terminators under the bridge, and get bashed into the ground... ouch!
Sirrioussam moves up with the bloodletters to lend support. Sirrioussam casually takes a pot shot (bolt pistol) at Belial's squad, which had been taking a beating from the necrotic missiles Kugath had been throwing at them. Against all odds, he takes down a terminator!
Meanwhile, Angcalagon the Black is back and burning for vengeance. He smashes the dreadnought into the ground, causing it to erupt in flames. Fortunately, no one got hurt.
He then moves up quickly to engage Belial. Belial now lies bleeding upon the cold hard ground of Anderros...
The terminators under the bridge clear out the Flesh Hounds and then spray Sirrioussam and his remaining stooges with storm bolter fire. Every single one of them falls to the snowy ground.
The ensuing fight to claim his body is won by...

the great Kugath and his other minions!
The warpfire from the horrors finally take down 2 terminators from the squad that finished off the daemonettes, even as they moved up to contest the fallen Sirriussam!
Recognizing the lost cause in challenging the body of Sirrioussam, the remaining Deathwing terminators (just the chaplain and a normal dude now) move in to take a kill point from the horrors)
And do it with aplomb! These guys are 'ard!
The game ended here, with my pal taking 10 kill points to my 5. Since the body of the Fallen was not recovered by the Deathwing, the next scenario will be Escape from Anderros city! Certainly a moral victory for me despite the actual defeat...

That looked like a particularly unpleasent army to go up against! 2+ armour saves are a pain in the ass lol better luck next time!

I like how you made it into a complete story, and not just a couple of battles loosely tied together. Really nice.

Also it's been a while since my last visit, so let me just say that Slaanesh chariot is very, very cool.
Thanks!
It can't quite be put like that actually. The Deathwing is a pretty low model count army and you just have to fluff a few rolls and then suddenly you don't have quite enough effective units. Of course, right at the beginning of the game, they can be quite devastating to an army that is only going to have half its squads on the table. Still, we had a lot of fun because it made for such cinematic games we didn't care who won. We just wanted to see the story unfold
Thanks! Yep, it made for a game where no one cared about winning or losing, but more of whether the mission gets fulfilled or not.
Yes! And the third game is just about to be reported...
Thanks for the compliment on the chariot![]()
Third and Last game of our one day campaign!
This is an escape mission, and the launch pad at the far end of the board is where the dark angels marines must get to. We were winging the rules here, so it was like this: For every squad that my buddy could get to the launch pad, he gets one VP. For every squad that I eliminate, I get one VP. The other rule we had was that the troops choices of the Daemon army can be recycled, to simulate the daemonic infestation getting more and more serious.
So here's the board!
You can see the Dark Angels deployed in the middle of the board and dear Kugath at the near end. The idea was that the other daemons are appearing to block the Dark Angels and for Kugath to catch up with them, which was supposed to be the cliffhanger (we hoped, at least).
First turn:
I got first turn this time and the Daemons began to materialize. The Dark Angels sprint forward, their vehicles making a break for the launchpad.
The Assault Marines make a brave sacrificial move to block off the bloodletters.
The shooting phase...
The end of the assault...![]()
Meanwhile, the plaguebearers are going nowhere fast in the rear of the Dark Angels lines (they are slow, but not really purposeful). The tail end of his convoy start taking potshots at them, felling two... and for the rest of the game, the plaguebearers are just sliding along, not doing much (so no more pics of these guys, so there)
Angcalagon flies up to the bridge, and another group of bloodletters (recycled) appear at the intersection!
Angcalagon smashes the rhino to smithereens and the marines on board have to dash out into the open. Their bolter fire takes down a couple of bloodletters (they are going down easily today, aren't they?)...
The horrors had spat warpfire at the remnants of the assault squad earlier and all that remains is that crazy Seraphon, who takes the fight to a bunch of daemonettes (yes, a bunch, not like previously, just the one!). I forgot to take pics, but it seems that Seraphon's luck has run out. The daemonettes rended his butt into the ground this time...
The fight on the bridge ended in a stalemate, and more daemons materialize! The daemonettes also run up the ramp to engage the marines at the intersection. The daemons are concentrating on the choke point!
Angcalagon puts himself in harm's way again, flying up to block the marines desparately trying to run towards the launchpad. He takes down a coupla marines with his Daemonic Gaze (fireballs from his eyes! and lightning from his unmentionables!) but is then 'bolter-ed' again, taking 3 wounds. Obviously, he isn't the kind to learn his lesson...
And of course, in the ensuing combat, all that can be heard is his voice fading into nothingness... "Noooooooooo...!"
The Daemons surrounding the marines at the intersection rush in and overwhelmed them.
At this point, my friend called it and it was victory to the Daemons! We thought this was a cool ending, as there are now MIA marines on Anderros, which could provide a nice story hook to our next game.
We analyzed the last scenario and agreed that it was far too skewed for the marines to win. The distance to the launchpad was too long and the Daemons recycling troops made them too powerful. Also, only having one route to the launchpad made it too easy for the Daemons to concentrate their forces, especially when that route was down a particular road. We ended up discussing some rules changes for future games, but I won't bore you with that!
Hope you enjoyed the batreps!

awesome battle report x 100!
Cool daimyo.BTW, if you use white text in your sig then anyone using the vBulletin default skin (which I do) won't be able to read it, since that has a white background.
