Nope, if you have a special combat weapon you have to use it. Different from 7th edition.

It's hard to complain when for 6pts you're getting ld10 power dice with Hatred and Mindrazor/Cauldron support though.

    True Nuff.
They do make good stab fodder.... The dagger is too addictive, I kept count using morathi.... She kills 4 per turn on average.

So, about the dark pegasus heroes... how do you equip them and what are their roles?

I use one with the Ring of Hotek and the Cloak of Hag Graef, dual pistols and scourge. Worked pretty well so far but never made the enemy caster explode.

You're not paying anything for the handweapon if you mean that, or not more than everyone else. All models are supposed to come with one.

If you mean the shield, it's not useless either. Not as good as with a parry but it still improves your AS, even in combat.

Re: Tactica: Dark Elves in 8th edition

So, I'm having some issues with my shades. I regularly run 2 units of 10 with additional hand weapons. When they can get deployed on the flanks/behind the enemy they are golden. When they cannot get to those prime spots, I tend to use them very poorly - failing to give them adequate room between other units so they get charged the first turn, not positioning them so that they can do a shuffle around the ends of lines, etc. If your shades are forced into the "open" what do you do? Do you position them near terrain? Keep them near important enemy targets? Do you sacrifice the first turn of shooting (more or less) to make them safe and have them contribute later in the games?

Re: Tactica: Dark Elves in 8th edition

I have done some stupid things at times, but the funniest, with shades, was place them right in plain sight, 3 units of 10, had them 12 away from enemy front lines, did stop me being shot first turn on the main army XD but expensive and not worth it.
As flankers the shades can work wonders, march and shoot being the prime candidate for it.
In units of 15-20 +, an assassin hidden away in there is a good laugh, just don't let monsters hit them...
They are best used behind enemy lines though and that's what you need to try and get, if you don't get it, set them up to support the army, hide them near big hoards, or hydras.

Dont be afraid to re-deploy them in your own zone if no prime position is available b.s 5 still shines and you can always march and shoot if you need to re-position.This will still prove very painfull for your opponent while keeping them safe.

it's for a map based campaign game, we each have 3 unique generals running amock, they are fixed for the rest of the campaign, the rest of the army is free choice regarding the opponent, except for regiments of renown.
the dagger general is on another tile so no dagger in this list

good point on the banners, i'll shift some points around, hag graef on the COK and a champ for the spears, do i need shields on them ?

i like the dancing elf idea to get around my own ring effect , thanks
Well i've won the game, thanks or the input!
Watchtowerscenario, i managed to get my blackguard in. He played a 6 strong chariotunit with characters in, which kinda cought me and my corsairs offguard, the cold one knights made up for my mistake by first taking out his tombguard with character and then the chariots. I had some luck with his necpolisknights coming up misplaced due to 'mishap' on the boardflank, too far removed to get to the tower.
I wonder how these necropolisknights perform if they actually make it into the fight, anybody knows?

Yep just hit them hard enough they melt...last encounter they were slithering up my flank and i managed to double hydra and cold one knight 8 of them without any real harm done.Just b wary along side a chariot charge the devastation potential is quite huge...

Re: Tactica: Dark Elves in 8th edition

allrighty, back again, next game will be against ogres.

i'm in doubt which of my campaign generals i should take for this matchup:
Supreme sorceress Kalina: lvl4, sacrificial dagger, lore of shadow 285pts + item for free : seed of rebirth 10ptn + item for free: potion of toughness 20 ptn

    OR

Dreadlord Maevin: cold one, heavyarmour, shield, sea dragon cloak, sword of might, dragonhelm, pendant of kaeleth, crown of command 277 pts

besides this, does anybody have some ideas in what to put in a list, i was thinking of 30 frenzy corsairs and dual hydra and black guard, i don't see shades being useful here, thoughts please?

Re: Tactica: Dark Elves in 8th edition

If your dreadlord is on a cold one, use cold one knights, w banner of haggraef, or if you dismount him, put him with the corsairs, and have a master or 2 with him.
Assassins are good to pop out in corsairs too, frenzy gives everything a boost, and in sufficient numbers, can make life hell.
Magic phase wise you will want a lore of shadows or dark magic sorceress if running a dread lord. Or a supreme sorceress if no dread lord.
