    Thinking Epically...

Well, I used to play back when it was called Space Marine, but lately I've really been thinking about getting back into Epic, as it were. I'm a huge Squat fan in 40k, and so naturally I've been thinking about going Squat in Epic. What's the closest to an 'official' (i.e. recognized by the community) list for the stocky little avengers of Imbach? What's the best way to go with the Super-heavies?

Any and all comments much appreciated!

Squat list development (at least in NetEA) hasn't really made it that far. There are two lists which seem to have some following. The most recently updated is Thurgrimm's Stronghold. And by recently, I mean in 2009. :P

That seems to be it. Of course, you could always make your own! The two big lists'd provide plenty of idea fodder.

EDIT: And then, of course, you could just proxy them as Guard, Adeptus Mechanicus, or one of the other myriad lists produced by the community...

Demiurg 4.0 is another Squat based list. Don't seem to have a link handy; look in the Other Armies section of Epic Armageddon Rules Development.

No, no... I've seen both of those; just wondering which was generally considered to be widely accepted by the community as... whatever.

No Demiurg. Squat. Demiurg are not Squats. As well, I'd prefer not to 'proxy;' I just have this thing that when there's actually an entire RANGE of models, I'd like to use rules for those models.

I'll see what I can do. Thurgrim looks alright. Only thing that's annoying is the fandex-esque Spartan. I'm one of those 'fluff-nazis.'

I'd ask over on the Tactical Command Epic forum. You'll find more Squat experts there than you will here.

I've been over to the TC. Some interesting stuff, but doesn't seem like a consensus has been reached concerning Squats. No one plays them who comes in here?

As far as the proxy comment: I hate proxying one army for another, especially when they're so different as Guard and Squats. Squats are SQUATS, not just wee men

I recommend the Thurgrimm's list that was already suggested, because it is a Squat list. I've played it and like it. It gives you the chance to play all of the old Squat minis.

    Re: Thinking Epically...

A bit of Threadomancy here (if such a thing is possible with SG!). I've played the Thurgrimm list a few times now, and I must say that I find it lacking in many areas, not least of which is it's poor representation of the Squats as a "racial" force, nor the poor translations from Space Marine era War Machines to E:A.

That being said, however, it does seem to be a good "jumping-off" point to make a solid, characterful, and true-to-source army list. I'll be posting updates here as I go.

Why not join up at tactical command where the list was developed; they're even looking for a new army developer to work on the squat list.

Yeah, I think that's what I'm gonna do. I was looking back over the Thurgrim list tonight, and making extensive notes...
