    New race

Just a minor rumour continuing on from this thread.

Regarding the new race that GW hinted at awhile back, my guy said that he had heard talk about an elemental race, sort of lesser Gods that take form based on the elements and can raise warriors as such too.

Back when that thread was going on I wasn't sure how make credence this held, but now I have spotted something to support it, and though it remains with salt, I thought it may now be worth posting as a possible rumour. What I spotted was this below from the 8th edition RBRB:

Like I said, lots of salt, but what I heard before and wht is in the book go hand-in-hand, making possibility much greater.

Doesn't matter if they do that army or not; this must by far be the worst idea GW ever had.

    Re: New race

The rulebooks always have mentions of cultures beyond those that have army books. There's been a fair bit of mention of Cathay for years now and no army book has shown up.

Potentially. I suppose they could do a polynesian feel army. I'd be willing to try something like that.

I'd be surprised if they decided to whip out an army like that instead of Cathay, Ind or Araby, however.

On the other hand, those armies may just not be different enough from existing armies to make a difference or they may not be able to be done without being a racist stereotype(Or they believe they can't - Marketing gurus can be PC at times).

I'll take the requisite amount of salt for something that may be true and I agree with your assessment.

Hrm. A race of elementals doesn't sound too good, but then again, I've never liked the concept of elementals. I'd much rather they released a Cathay or Ind army. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
What about the other new race? Will it be Chaos Dwarves?

    Re: New race

how do Elementals fit into the Warhammer world...thought all the magic was basically the stuff of chaos? O.o guess we'll see how this one pans out...but I'm gonna probably go with Meh....
For Orks the Lookout sir rule may not seem likely. The thought of an Ork selflessly jumping in front of his commander to protect him from incoming fire doesn’t seem to fit their nature. However the reality of the situation cannot be further from the truth, especially when the commanding Ork grabs the boy next to him and uses him as a shield.

    Re: New race

Like I said, I'm not sure how likely this is, only that the similarity popped up and I thought it was worth mentioning.

On the note of Cathay etc., the difference here is that when GW mentioned the new race they said it was one we have never seen before, and this is also the first time this fluff was mentioned.

SeaSwift, I like the idea of desert djinn. Would be cool.

That snippet from the rulebook sounds a lot like Araby. I think people have been speculating on that since they came out for Warmaster.

    Interesting notes, though.

    Re: New race

Why would they do a new race when people want CD and DOW to get an update, as well as new army books needed due to 8th edition? Sort out your existing fanbase before trying to create a new one GW.

    Re: New race

I don't think it is possible. We have 15 armies already and I think somebody once mentioned that it is the prime reason for GW for not doing CHD (who have a seemingly large fanbase and an important role in the fluff) or the DoW.

    Re: New race

    Not another thread...

If we seperate the rulebook from rumours for a moment please (as they simply fleshed out the warhammer world with minor races, like fishmen), what reasons would GW studio have to produce any completely new army that FW isn't going to do?

Why would GW studio take fishmen/albino giants/ elementals, all races with zero fluff and support, and pass on cathay, nippon, ind and chaos Dwarfs? All the armies they've handed to FW on a plate.

The only elemental army GW will be making is air daemons, where they just sell a pack of bases.

We could just merge all the snippet mentions of the obscure un-named minor races in the rulebook into one thread.

My guess is that the only way GW studio will add any 'new' armies for the foreseeable future is to expand on the work done by FW with plastic sets.

    Re: New race

GW has only made two semi-official statements about future races: 1) CD are not forever gone, and 2) necromancers beyond level 1 were not included in the VC book because "they had other plans for them." And there's the rumor of a new army (non-human) in either WFB or 40K from a year or so ago. IMHO, Ind, Cathay and Araby are just wishlisting at this point.

    Re: New race

I know most players would like all the army books to get an update before a new army would be released. But GW would make a lot more money off a new army then by updating an old one. If a new army is released and interesting, almost everyone who plays would consider picking it up if they find it interesting. Just think about how well Ogres sold when they first came out.
My goal for the year is to get another 100 models painted.
    So far I haven't touched a brush.

    Re: New race

i think that if they were doing a new army it would have been linked someway with the launch of 8th ed, as there is no real reason in making a new rule book referencing all but one army. also if they do, then it will be a while before we are seeing it, as i know that Dark eldar are almost finished and hopefully we will see some TK redoos. seen the new sphynx
