Thrown Weapons and Long Range

Looking at the rulebook, I noticed that the quick to fire rule does not preclude long range penalties, and that there is no provision for thrown weapons to not suffer long range penalties. Is this correct? Did I miss anything here? I find it hard to believe that a weapon which may only have a range of a few inches still has to suffer the long range penalty...

It was mentioned somewhere before amidst the '8th edition quirks' thread - difficult to find.

It may be cleared up if/when the BRB gets a FAQ, but for now, anyone who throws things is a lousy shot at anything a stones throw away...
