Space marine scouts in warbands.
Greetings fellow Inquisitors.
I have been thinking lately of incorporating a space marine scout into my warband.
Leaving stats aside for the moment (he will obviously be a strong and competant "fighter" type character.), I would like you opinions on how a marine scout would end up working with an Inquisitor.
I have consider the following options, two relatively puritan and two other a little more radical.
He is a lone survivor of his chapter, who enjoyed close relations with my Inquisitor. He is staying with the Inquisitor only until contact can be made with another chapter of his gene-seed lineage, who he will petition for membership.
He has been placed on detached service with the Inquisition as part of his training.
He is an Inquisition experiment, an attempt to recreate/improve Astartes without the sanction of the High Lords of Terra.
He is an exile of his chapter, and on the run from them for some breach of chapter law. The Inquisitor is offering him sanctuary in exchange for service, even though it risks the wrath of the Astartes.
I'll be grateful for any advice, or critisism you can offer.
Necanthrope.

Re: Space marine scouts in warbands.
It might be worth posting your question on The Conclave - two of our members have recently posted 54mm Space Marine Scout models, and might be willing to share the back story for their characters.
For a while I've had a plan to build a scout as the muscle for an Astartes warband which'll be a team of trusted Chapter Serfs and servitors dispatched on a secret mission by their Chapter Master...

Re: Space marine scouts in warbands.
Option 1 - Good, but it's a bit of a one-shot option. It's possible, but improbable.
Option 2 - Highly improbable that a chapter would let a scout out on such detached duty.
Option 3 - Smacks of Mary Sue.
Option 4 - Better than Option 1.
You might also consider that a Scout - roaming far ahead of his chapter's operations, performing recon and sabotage missions - could easily become separated from his battlegroup. A sufficiently severe separation (accidentally locked on board a departing spacecraft; pursuing a vital enemy objective through a warpgate; lost in subterranean passageways and written off as dead...) could easily see a Scout left operating solo and an Inquisitor would represent a "safe" haven with the resources to return him to his chapter... eventually.

Re: Space marine scouts in warbands.
That sounds pretty good actually PrecinctOmega. I think I'll build his backstory around being stranded on a barren world after his chapter left him for dead. His equipment is mostly knackered, smashed in a fall or cave in, and his bolt pistol is dry.
I think I'll have him being used by the inquisitor who rescued him, being kept in the dark as to his new patrons true goals, which will obviously be something he would disapprove of highly. He is kept from leaving by the promise of "one more mission and we will be in a position to return you to your chapter.". Perhaps that makes him seem a little gullible, but then marine scouts [I]are[I] supposed to be in their teens.
Yeah, I like that idea a lot..
Thanks very much

Re: Space marine scouts in warbands.
Others more up-to-snuff on their Astartes lore may correct me on this, but I believe that marines who show promise for various leadership positions within the chapter are often singled out and begin training during the scout stage (this would not apply to captains or battle commanders, who I believe follow a more normal line of promotion through the ranks).
So, while a Chaplain or Apothecary would likely complete their training entirely within the chapter, I could potentially see a Librarian-in-training, before his psychic powers manifested and still as a scout, studying with an Inquisitor to learn more about whatever various threats the Imperium faces.
Think of him like a foreign exchange student!
Seriously, though, that's something that I could potentially see in some chapters, especially those with close ties to the inquisition.
I would also say that the nature of your inquisitor probably has a lot to do with how/why an Astartes scout came to be in his warband, and what sort of Scout he ran into. The "Chapter Exile" version might work well for an inquisitor that bends the rules from time to time, for instance, whereas I doubt a more puritanical inquisitor would take on a fugitive from another branch of the Imperium.

They are a Black Templars Neophyte, who's initiate died, and the newly assigned initiate did'nt find the neophyte worthy of his tutelage.
