    Paint more, buy less!

    Hi all,

This is the start of my log of everything. The idea is to get most of the models I have sitting around unpainted ...well...painted!

New Warhammer starter box is coming soon and I won't let myself buy it until I paint all the stuff I have already. Questions, comments, advice etc will all be appreciated. Requests to see already painted models can be accommodated also.

    The Painting Agenda:

Biel Tan Eldar - Guardian squad, falcon & possibly an extra farseer.
Crimson Fists - Captain in Terminator Armour.
Battle For Skull Pass - Most of it
Lord of The Rings - Moria Goblins, Orcs, Men of Gondor, handful of characters.
    Various Terrain pieces.

Begin with the obligatory work space

and some Guardians I just completed

Thanks for looking and I hope to have weekly updates in the future.

Awesome looking eldar. I've always liked the color scheme but painting that much white makes them rare to see. How many layers did it take?

They really aren't as smooth as they could be. I could take close up shots and prove it but I won't as your comment is inflating my ego. It's approximately 3 layers of white on top of a grey wash from white basecoat. I haven't the patience for more.

Thank you. It seemed like a good idea at the time as they say. How foolish I was

It is my light box and I bought it. Some fellow warseerite posted a link ages ago to an online deal and I chanced it. Cost something like $10 including lights and tripod.

    Update time!

This week I have still been painting guardians trying to get through this wretched squad. Completed 3 more:

And I finished up an objective marker that has been on my table for way too long. Ignore the banner, I'll replace it with a better effort in the future.

    Questions, comments & advice appreciated.
    Thanks for looking.

    Teeheeheeheeheehh... You're funny!

Seriously though, very nice start! Those white green Eldar are NOT easy to paint, but they look amazing! Kudos to that!

Very nice crisp white you have there on the guardians... care to share how you achieved it?

    Keep up the good work

    Re: Paint more, buy less!

It has been said before, but i have to second the comment that i admire your commitment to a mainly white army!!!! I did my space marines in white MANY moons ago, and slowly i added increasing amounts of red to them!!! A friend of mine then started Nids and he did them mainly white. After a few months he lost the will to live painting them and now he has turned his eye to his Skaven.

I do hope that you stick with this! Your clean style and carefull hand are producing some rather special guardians! I can't wait to see what you come up with when you get onto the juicy stuff, ie the aspects and the skimmers!!!

Top class effort, and great execution! Keep it up mate

**EDIT** nearly forgot to comment on that objective... Well what can i say?? Hmm... Lets keep it civilized and just say " Thats something i would fight to the death over!!" :P

Thank you for the compliment. I think "amazing" is a bit much... but don't stop!

Simple and not very efficient. I spray the model with GW white spray. Heavily water down some codex gray and drown the model in it. Keep applying thin layers of skull white until I get bored. Usually they get 3 coats. I'll take some WIP shots when I get around to the last 3 members of the squad.

Thanks! Actually much of the "juicy stuff" is already painted. I'll have to conjure up an army picture to show everything.

    Re: Paint more, buy less!

    Update time.

This week I have been struggling to build some terrain, the main components of which have been in the basement/gaming room for about 2 years. Unfortunately this means not much action on the painting front.

This is what I completed this week:

In order to give you something more interesting to look at, I took a quick army photo. Here is all the completed Biel Tan stuff except the Guardian squad I'm still working on and the weapons platforms which are upstairs on my painting table.

Thanks for looking and if anyone wants to see anything more closely, let me know and I'll try my best to get a photo.

Thanks for sharing Fist of Crimson - it sounds simple, yet it does give really clean crisp results.

    Nice work

    Re: Paint more, buy less!

Alright everyone, this is what you've been waiting for....update time!

Firstly we have something different. I picked up the Flames of War started set containing 3 Shermans and 2 Stugs.

I painted up one of the Shermans and I have to say I enjoyed it. It makes a nice change from 28mm models. I hope to finish the box and get some more FOW stuff in the future, but not until I get my backlog somewhat more manageable.

    Anyway, British Sherman:

And I also managed to get the Falcon's turret painted. Might not seem like much, but I find it hard to generate any enthusiasm for painting 40k tanks so this is quite an effort of will to make some progress on one. It is missing the thorn pattern that will be added after the rest of the Falcon is painted (likely September of 2058!)

    Turret:

Next we have the Terrain project that ate up all my painting time last week. 15mm/6mm woods:

I managed to get 4 stands out of one box of Woodland Scenics "realistic trees" The smaller trees will be good for Epic and I think I can probably get away with using all 4 stands in FOW.

    Re: Paint more, buy less!

    Update time:

Busy week at work and an injury have slowed my progress, but I do have something to show. In addition to this I almost completed the final three guardians, so they should appear next week.

    On to the pictures:

Space Hulk Brother Leon (Assault Cannon guy)

And a little magnetic magic means he can play 40k as well as Space Hulk

Thanks for looking. See you all next week!

    Updates:

this week, as I eluded to in my last post, I have finished off the final 3 guardians.

Unfortunately that is about all I managed to do. My wife and I spent most of the week searching for a cat to adopt, and most of the weekend watching the new cat and scratching her behind the ears.

Hopefully more success on the painting front next week.

    Updates:

This week has been a Gobbofest. BFSP gobbos with bows to be exact. Basing will be done when I have all 20 of them painted as I just hate basing. Especially hate basing fantasy. This is why we are going with the boring old goblin green paint and green flock routine from the mid 90's.

    Onto the pictures:

The front 2 ranks painted this week.

Random 4 goblins for a closer look

The back of a couple of Goblins in case anyone wondered how I painted the quivers

    Close up of the Boss

And our new Cat (called Penny) because I have a theory that posting the traditional blog cat photo will get more comments than the painted models.

Thanks for looking and I'll see you all next week.
