    Re: Highbattalion club projects

And here's tonight's update, the third base color is applied to everyone and the vehicles and bikes have begun to get washed. Next up is pulling everyone off their bases so I can get to work on those, so we're almost there.

On an odd note this little project has helped remind me of what it takes to make an army ready for tournament (3 colors and based), and why that's so important, this has been a couple hours work every night for less than a week. Having seen any number of armies brought to tournament un-primed (still plastic) really reflects on how little effort some tournament players put in to what they bring.

This is just the work of one person, with some crappy primer and a wash that I quickly mixed up and not really applying anything I consider to be effort, it seems to put things into perspective. Then again, maybe those people need to meet a painter who's willing to share what they've learned and teach them how.....

Hrm, there's my random deep musing for the month.

    Re: Highbattalion club projects

And here we are, the army is as far as I should take it without denying the owner of being able to do the detail work:

A few close up shots of the units, mostly the base work was 3 colors, the yellow, blue and the grey for the guns, obviously there are the different colors for the aspect squads, but those were just as straightforward as the yellow was, I attempted to tie all the units together with yellow on almost everyone:

You might notice that there are only 29 guardians. Tomorrow I'll teach the owner how to paint them with that missing model, one of the howling banshees also has a bad power sword, that will be his first conversion project. It's important to instill that confidence very quickly to help prevent them from loosing motivation or becoming dependent on the painting skills of someone else.

I'll try to remember to take some pictures of everything in action tomorrow, and get up some shots of my next project.

@Disposable Hero: Thanks, I try to keep up a steady workload.

Speaking of, here's how today turned out:

The Eldar fielded against the Tau, things started off rather grim with many of the guardians being shot to pieces:

However the tide quickly turned as the Eldar found their range and began to close in:

Once the Eldar closed with the Tau the end came quickly:

The owner of the Eldar now has them firmly in hand, and the rest of the progress on them is his to control. On to other projects!

    Re: Highbattalion club projects

Here happens to be a few of those next projects:

One of our members is a big fan of the Inquisitor scale range and has been pestering me to get my unit done soon, here's the current group:

It's three guardsmen (one being a sergeant), and Inquisitor, a Deathwatch Marine....and an Ogryn (made for me as a gift). So I'll be working on those for the next few weeks at a more leisurely pace.

At the same time I'm painting a Terminator unit for my personal Space Marine army shown here:

They're called the Space Ghosts, and they've been my favorite army since the day I began playing 40k, I even have background fluff for them (though I don't really share it as it feels a bit silly). I field them in two formats: a Scouts only army currently at 750pts, and a mixed list with most of the marines in play.

I'm also slowly (very slowly) working on my own Eldar army, which I occasionally post in the Xenos section.

    Re: Highbattalion club projects

Just a quick update, doing a weapon swap on the Guard Sergeant (swapping a laspistol for a shotgun...."I said Shotgun!"), and gave him a stogie, also repositioning the gun hand on the ogryn but that's still not ready. So here's a shot of the Sergeant and the Space Marine together:

I'm really hoping to get these guys primed by tomorrow so I can get on to painting some things instead.

    Re: Highbattalion club projects

I've been busy lately managing the three current projects, but here's a few shots of the current status of the inquisitor models.

And a compilation shot with some size comparison stuff thrown in for people not familiar with the old Inquisitor range, and to show how big that Ogryn really is:

An odd thought occurred to me regarding the stat-line disparity between many of the races in 40k, when you consider that my tiny little Guardsman on the right is str 3, and the Marine and Kroot are only str 4, though I can totally see the ogryn being str 6 in comparison to the guardsman, not so much to the marine. Though in Inquisitor things are "supposedly" better, or so I'm told. I've never played before so I'm a bit excited.

    Re: Highbattalion club projects

I've been very busy trying to get multiple armies up to date, the goal is to get 6 armies built at 1500 pts each, so that club members can pick up and play various armies, for anything from learning about their rules to just trying something new.

The other armies are Sisters of Battle, Chaos Daemons, a second Chaos Marines army and obviously the nids, templars and legion........hrm, seven armies apparently....ohh, and a Tau army......eight, heh. Three of these armies belong to older club members who went away and left them in our care.

I've also been working on adjusting my own Salamanders Drop Pod force......which is considerably broken
