    Fun Night Goblin Conversions

    Hello,

This is my tryout for posting pictures and for giving me a bump finishing those NG. There are a few pictures of conversions intended for the viewers fun when being grounded to dust by incompetent NG. Not happened so far, but still fun.

The first shows a picture of a NG luring the enemy closer by insulting him with the tongue and how I incorparated the limited fanatic into the unit(I don't like it when models stick out to much).

The second shows what my NG think about the usual enemies(dwarfs, skaven and empire) by pissing on the spoils of war, check the third for a view from above. In the right corner we have some NG fun fy stringing up an unaware fellow as scarecrow and bugging the crap out of him dresses as a bird.

Sorry for picture quality, but I haven't got them on the net, so they became thumbnails. Camara ain't that great and so on, but hope you still get a laugh out of some.

    More to come

    And on it goes...

Here are some more pictures of conversions I use.

First picture is for a "who do we shoot" and the finger. Also to my liking a NG blowing the horn to taunt his enemies into charging and a fanatic waiting for them thereafter. For some reason my friends(non-players) didn't see the humour of the horn, maybe you like it...

Second picture is for some hero conversions since I had some leftovers(this was before 8th ruined my unit size)

Third is for abuising some dwarfs(mind you dwarfs are my first army and bestliked, but slayers don't get caught). This is the first testlaunch of Prof. Boomz patented slay-them-rockit. Will it go off?

Last are some toxicated NG, with beer and dope. I don't mind some beer myself, but dope is off kids! This is just converting for fun and thinking of how to get the mushroom into the NG.

Still working on the shooting range and another fanatic in unit. Also some NG shot in the back(by whom?). I'll put those pictures on here to as soon as I have them finished. Also I hope to post the full units when done to give an impression of the overall effect.

The scarecrow one has got to be my favourite, starting from the idea which i find original and very funny, and the miniature itself conveys that said idea effectively, i love that it even has a pumkin face! The "miner-goblin" also looks quite badass. In general i think it is great that you took the time to create these thematic scenes that dont have a "practical use"

I used the multipart NG, drilling through and putting a goblin Spear though him. Using parts of the banner I made the top. The rope is made of waxed string used for sewing, also used to give my bows strings. It responds great to plastic glue and hardens out after soaking it. I'll try to post a picture this evening, but any store with sewing materails should have it.

    Re: Fun Night Goblin Conversions

First picture is of the sewing thread I use with some badly focused NG archers with examples of bowstrings. I do this because frankly I don't like the empty bows. to do this I super-glue the ends to the bow, let it dry. Wind it around two to three times, soak the end and about 1cm excesive thread with super-glue agian to make it stick and stiff. Then I cut it off at an angle with a sharp knife, works real fine because of the stiffnes. The Angle reflects how the string goes under another piece of string, I took this from how the spears are done.

Second is for my battle standard bearer and a far to easy conversion for a fanatic reminder as to keep the opponent away from my precious units. If you look at the shield you can see I cut the excessive plastic from the BFSP NG spearmen away and mold it into fingers(usually I manage three, sometimes four). I think it looks a lot better, opposed to shields up to the body. The work is troublesome though, the plastic is to soft, too easy to cut through.

I also remove the part to go into the slot from every NG, so as to be able to give them a slightly more random direction in the unit. This gives a slightly more chaos-like effect. See next reply.

    Re: Fun Night Goblin Conversions

Here is a picture of a 10x7 horde of a just finished NG spearmen with some conversions in, Skarsnik and a BSB. I had to take a few conversions out so I had only to buy 20 new NG archers as I still had 9 spearmen left. Previosly it were two 35 NG spearmen units without heroes and commanders. As I mentioned before I removed the slot-counterparts so as to position them a little more freely, though not to much as they are still goblins and tense to fight the enemy in front. I got a few to look outward or at the conversions to emphasise them. I only added six I painted over the weekend, which for me is fast since I usually get an average of one per day. I do a colour, get bored/pain in the back from bending, watch a star trek episode, do another colour and start coing something I shouldn't do. End of day. This is also the reason for this plog, to get speed up a bit, because of 8th edition I need to ad a few goblins. I must say that I take cleaning up the models very seriosly and it takes up a lot of time with me(included in the day average). Spiders were terrible in that respect, took me 45 minutes a piece to clean up.

Second picture shows the scarecrow in action, here you can also see some spectators looking the wrong way as examples. Then a picture of the limited night goblin fanatic to show what I meant, saying it not leaving the unit. This allows for putting it to the enemy in CC. Last but not least a close up of Skarsnik, on a note Gobla didn't realy fit on the base and I had to make an extra stone for him to stand on. But I got a lot better with green stuff so no problem.

Next I'll finish two units of 40 NG bowmen, one will not take long as it misses only four NGs. So pictures will be up next weekend probably since I do need to convert before(takes a bit longer) and can't work on it every evening.

Haha that's sweet! I like the idea of having goblins turn to stare at conversions. I have a unit filler of two night goblins fighting (last edition) and I may have to do the same thing with my unit. Why wouldn't they be looking right?!

    Keep the pics coming!

I ran a 150 strong night goblin unit but it wasn't painted. Yours is the largest painted horde I've seen so far

    Re: Fun Night Goblin Conversions

Since there was a nice thunderstorm outside, I didn't go running. Therefore I had some time to post some pictures of my squigbombs and the conversions therein. Also a picture of a WIP, still need to work on the right arms of the outer left and right models. This will become my shooting range with one goblin explaining the target(again) to the new weapons tester. The 'Ooligan will be looking just over the target in the right corner. I think I will do some before and after painting pictures next time.

    Re: Fun Night Goblin Conversions

Well, I will try to get the models I converted this week painted. So I got you a closer look at the models for the shooting range front and back, to show how much green stuff I use. I try to do keep it at a minimum, weapon swap worked out good. The 'Ooligan needed a little more work since I cut up the lower NG, which is a speargoblin from BFSP, used the arm I took from the champion and the pack of arrows from the sprue. As you can see the other one on top also a speargoblin got a headswap and a new arm from the spider rider musician. The Banner is made from paper tape(it already sticks) soaked in superglue to get it hard.
The Champion got a little banner from a bretonnian foot soldier's champion helmet and a dwarf pointing hand, the green stuff covers the wire I udes for attaching it(also hepls to get the length right, you can always push it in furter if you drill deep enough).
The crossbow NG was the musicain of the extra unit from BFSP I got from eBay(they just look a lot better as archers go). I cut of the pole and arm with the gong and the stick in his right arm, where he lost a finger to. Then I fitted the crossbowarm on to the NG and glued it on, I had to take the dtails off the back. Then glued on the top part and made a new piece of cloth from green stuff. He had to lose the left arm because of the bowstring. And of course he got some ammo to.

At this point I'd like to show off my sculpting tools. And to show that the target is holding together by nails and not by magic. I got some small nails, cut them short and glue them in pre-drilled holes. Easier than getting it done with green stuff.

The last picture shows the scene of how to encourage a NG fanatic to leave the unit in the right direction. The rules don't allow you any more to shoot at your own fanatics, so what else is there to show him you mean bussiness. This one took a bit more of cutting and green stuff, because of gravity. The robes will fall slightly down. Had to do it in two times as I always seemed to touch parts already done. The fanatic was a bit lonely and I had him left over from the ten I have(three units of NG now only allow for a max of 9 fanatics). The slayer will go with the troll for the 2004 christmas gift for GW somethings I got from eBay, to get it again to look like the scene I bought in scale. If you don't know what I am talking about, check the picture in the next post.

That post I will try to get done by sunday morning 9 am, but the weekend got awfully full and it might be monday, but you will get it!

    Re: Fun Night Goblin Conversions

I am almost finished, but nut quite yet. So the pictures will be up tomorrow.

Since I wanted you to show something I quickly finished the slayer previously to the left. Put him on his base and took a few pictures. I like the old stone trolls best, because the stupidity is on their faces. They pull these faces like "Uhhh, what do I do now?" or "Nice clouds". I wanted my giant to go with the theme and GW did produce a troll in 54mm, so here it is.

The smaller troll is for size comparrison, I have three finished and am working on the other three. They only made six different ones, which is too bad.

I had the giant on a 50mm base before but in 8th you need to use the bases suplied. So a giant would be on a 50x75mm base. which left me with some space to the front to fill. I enlarged simply by attaching a cavalry base.

    Re: Fun Night Goblin Conversions

So here it is, some pictures after painting. The scenes after basing and assembly. And the second unit of NG, the first of two 40 NG archers strong units with all upgrades. The second is still missing a waaaghboss, 15 rank and file archers and two conversions I still have to come up with some ideas for.

I still need to do magnetic basing for the two scenes, so the 'Ooligan will be a bit lower(1mm, so no big deal).

So next up is some rank and file for the second unit and when the conversions have been done I will update this plog. This will take two weeks aproximately, so next weekend I'll post some rebuild chariots. Sorry no NG. I hope to get the trolls painted while cleaning the NG archers, so if I make it I'll post them to.

    Re: Fun Night Goblin Conversions

It has been a busy week(not with painting though). But I still have some things to show.

First there is a picture of the bowstring on a rank and file NG archer where you do need some green stuff. Took it before I continued painting, only finished 5 so far. In the background the two models that want a conversion and the NG waaaghboss for the morale of this unit.

Then three pictures of a WIP for Grom, made from plasticard, original chariot parts and some old parts for converting a two wolf into a three wolf chariot. For Grom I took the model of a goblin king for Avatars of War(just made for this case it seems). The standard bearer is made from a NG fanatic left over, the original model also has a hood, so why not. I had to cut off the arm and re-angle it and attached an ogre bulls banner(even the streaming looks good this way). The chariot was made wit a step-up, since Grom is so heavy I thought him less able to take the step into his chariot. It also has the symbol linking all goblins with wolves. Note the tracks with GS, I like to do these realistic things to the base.

I am thinking of doing my goblins in tribes with one having conquered the others and driving them on in their waagh! So there will be three tribes(NG, wolfs, spiders), trolls and giants in stone troll look and some war machines(chariots excluded). This already left me with about 4900 point to paint so more than enough!

Last is a picture of the first unit of my heavy wolf cavalry, with bows since they still shoot better, compared to fighting. There will be a second. I used some old skaven upper bodies with more armour to represent the heavy cavalry part. There are also heads from the old dire wolves so as to have more variation within the unit.

And the wolf paint scheme was explained very well by Harry(Warseer) on his plog, where I got it from. I just painted the skin parts more fleshy.

    Re: Fun Night Goblin Conversions

And some painted models from the already finished collection. First the two goblin chariots I converted. Just couldn't fit the gobbos on it. One I made larger to the back the other to the front with a spoiler. The wolves got a some gear to actually be able to pull the carts. I made a counter with wolf and snotling to represent the extra crew. In 7th the idea was to replace the counter with models for a champion or shaman(not painted yet). So as to have more options with less models. In 8th they gave you the choice for both at the same time. So these will get a workover when a new army book finds its way to me, or hopefully not. I went for this option since an increase of base just didn't seem to justify the extra attacks where templates and shooting was concerned.

Also some pictures of a boss on wolf, the two bosses for the chariots are the "gengis khan" looking one from GW and the Avatars of War goblin. So I had one left from the blister bought, I also had an old warg metal model left since the wolfs used for my dire wolves previously came from two boxes of goblin wolfriders which got build back, leaving him without units to lead. I gave him a new hairjob, a nose and worked a bit on his legs. The goblin got the cloth between his legs sawed away and there it was. It was pretty green before painting.
