Beware the rat men! A Skaven log

    Hello all!

I first started in this hobby many many years ago but had quite a lengthy gap. I picked it up again a few years ago and am more into it now than I've ever been so I thought now was the right time to start a log (and a friend of mine is making me do it )

so, I have recently started a Skaven army so that is what I will log. So far I have a single unit of Clan rats painted up as well as Ikit Claw, who I just use as a normal warlock engineer...I can tell you he is not happy with his demotion! so here they are

I have tried to do the bases to look like they are marching out through the marshes around Skavenblight. I am really happy with how the models are coming out so far, I just hope I don't go insane before I have finished painting the entire verminous horde!

I am sure I will get better at taking the photos as the log progresses!

    Looking very nice there mate.

Nice job on Ikit, but man that sculpt looks very dated now.

    Looking forward to seeing more!

GAH... Morlu, you thread hippy!!! Already comments flowing your way... Anyway thanks for doing this PLog malarky anyhooz....

I have said it before and i shall say it again, well it wouldn't be me if i didn't, this will be your best army to date!!!

My onlysuggestion would be maybe applying a second coat of your water effect to the bases on certain "front liners" to increase the effect a tad...

Re: Beware the rat men! A Skaven log

    Very quick update here,

Just a shot of the next thing I will be painting, this is my battle standard bearer

He is made using this guy, except that his banner has been replaced by the banner which normaly goes on top of the doom wheel...it is so long if he stands in the front rank of a unit the banner covers him and 3 additional ranks behind him!

ill update with the painted version today or tomorrow. I will also be painting my ratling gun aswell...but you've all seen them before so really no need to show you the black one

    Woop woop, an update

I prefer this model more than your engi. Better model + your painting = Better result! Needless to say i am looking forward to your finished model

I'm liking the BSB! I was thinking of doing something similar with my warlord model!

Re: Beware the rat men! A Skaven log

    Thanks for the comments guys

The red is done in 4 stages:
    1: Merchrite red
    2: blood red all over
3: a nice generous wash of bdab black
    4:highlight with blood red

The final blood red highlight is important bit, its quite a generous highlight, much more than just an edge highlight on the larger plates, its also more than a single coat, I use maybe 3 or 4 coats of quite thin blood red.

hopefully the banner wont spoil him as freehand really isnt my strong point!

Wow. That's the most effort I've seen someone put into Clanrats by far. the Chieftain looks great so far.

Re: Beware the rat men! A Skaven log

Well the banner is done now, I think it came out pretty well, as I said, free hand not really my forte!

This picture was taken before the water effect was added to his base, I took the picture before because it takes about 24 hours to dry and just looks like thick PVA before it has!

FLAMIN' NORA!!!! That banner is a bit of alright WHAT WHAT... Good show old boy! Spiffing stuff!!!

The next time i hear you say you're "no good at free hand" i'll bite your face off!! Now get off your bum and get the vines done on your revenant!!

Oh and i think everyone on here will agree with me when i say that the free hand banner is INIFINATELY better that the printed one!!! Just don't let me hear anything about a greenstuff/ lead banner.. ^_^
