    Re: AoW Daemon Champion

I like Avatars of War, I really do, but they seem to be losing their edge lately. That daemon looks like he's leering at me or talking smack at me rather than preparing to destroy me and devour my soul. I like his head and the details of his body, but I would much prefer a model that looks like it is about to strike or is in the process of doing...something interesting.

Also, that sword is just ridiculous. There's a difference between a flamboyant, serrated blade and an accident in Voltron's forge, and this looks like the latter. The first time he hit somebody, that sword would break or stick, and he'd lose it.

Also, it looks like he was beefed up since the WIP shots we;ve seen, which just makes his pose look even more blocky and inelegant, like he threw out his back lifting weights. The new GW daemon prince also has a beefy torso, but the pose makes him look lithe and dangerous compared to the AoW daemon, or as I call him, "Gramps McPervypants". "Hey kids," he says, "get offa mah lawn or ahm'a gonna keep leerin' atcha! So young an' tender..."

I must give a disclaimer before this thread bursts into flames: I really do love AoW's products, for the most part. I own 5 of their models, and never got tired of their "I'm pointing this axe at you" pose. I would love to keep buying their models. But the one thing I won't do is spend $15.00 on a metal model that's boring. So, I criticize. With love. If I didn't care, I wouldn't say anything at all, and just walk away from the company.

I like the sculpt, however the big problem I have with AoW is that the casts are kinda... rough. Sometimes the eyes are uneven and overall the surfaces arent very smooth. If Felix could get the same quality out of his sculpts as Red-Box, i'd be all over em again.

I miss options. Vampire queen and Elf Queen have fantastic options. High elf mage has options. As of late its: here's a hook for a hand, here's a tail, small axe and chain or big axe. Come on Felix!
Is that cupcake a hooker ?

Sort of just standing there, isn't he?

I'd rather just use the GW Skulltaker miniature. Between that, various bits, and the Forgeworld Khornate Herald, well...not much use for this one.

Kinda sad - I had high hopes.

With Felix's mad sculpting skills, i think the pose of the Daemon Champion is downright disappointing.

I simply wouldn't have bothered to comment at all, like I never comment on most of GW's metal models. I think I only own about 4 GW metals, not including my Battlefleet Gothic ships. Now, if it were a plastic model, things might be different...

Pretty much the same way...Skulltaker and the Forgeworld version are better, so I have no reason to partake of this one.

The producer of the miniature makes little difference in the critique of the miniature - the final sculpt is all that counts, and this one falls in at third or fourth place on the "Khornate" daemonic herald scale.

I think this is *much* better than skulltaker.
Yeah, we flew our space church across 500 light years to get to this planet taken over by the orks. Now we're going to drop from orbit in buckets and run out and shoot pistols and hit people in the head with chainsaws. Ultramarines!

x2, this would make a far better skulltaker model actually.

    Re: AoW Daemon Champion

It's a far better model than Skulltaker, but as has been said, it is a teeny bit too static. And yes, the options need to return - IMO they were the best part of AoW's metals.

    That's a really good question

I bet all the people saying is a "bad model" would be saying: "WOOHOOOO LOV'IT! WESOM! I'L BUY 2 DOCENZ OF IT!!"

It's really boring all that GW "fanboyzticism" and easily foreseeable as well.

I think this model is far better than Skulltaker or any other Gw daemon (specially the last ones ). The bad thing of all that topic is that it doesn't matter how bad Gw does things or how expensive their models are, there will be ever people claiming "OH TOSE ARE MARVLOUZ!!1!1" and buying them like hot cakes... And that is saying all about the judgement of the average Gw fanboyz... I think it's really sad.

There are very legitimate criticism to be made about this model and recent AOW in general. This isn't a bad model, no one here is saying its bad, for the most part. What it is though is boring. Its a boring pose on a model that is almost exactly a bloodletter with a tail option.

Is skulltaker better, its a matter of opinion. I like Skulltaker better. The cape is a great detail, the flaming skull is great, the sword is regular sized. I like this one's face better.

AOW in general makes good models but its stopped doing what it does best, neat options.

    Re: AoW Daemon Champion

It's much up to opinion, yes. I don't really see the point of this one - we have several options for Khornate daemons. What would have been cool is a Slaaneshi or Tzeentchian-styled herald (especially Tzeentchian).

Just doesn't excite me *shrugs* if it excites you, great - go buy it and give them money so they can try and make some more cool models

In what way? I'm actually curious, because I really can't see it at all.
