    Luftwaffels modular 40k board

    Hello everybody!
After several years looking through countless threads on this forum and getting tons of inspiration from the many talented people here, I decided to try and make my own board. As I play both Apocalypse and regular 40k as well as longer campaigns, this board had to be able to represent not just a bombed out Imperial city but smaller settlements, space ports, normal landscape and so on. The idea is to be able to make a board that is suited to the different tiles in the Planetary Empires box from GW. This way you can set up the board to represent that particular fight in a campaign.

    On to construction!
I've used the summer to make the squares for the board. The idea I got from a video by Miniwargaming. Only I was going to make smaller pices, 1x1', 2x2' and 1x2'. Below is some of the first I made.

    1x1:

    2x2:

And a collection of several pices, laid out to test if they fit (which they did):

Thats it for the first post, more to come very soon!

Next I was going to put something onto them!
First several pices of different road tiles:

The roads was built using foamcore to make the sidewalk and a form of rough spackle to make the road itself. The longer road with a crater in it was buildt in the same way but had a moonscape crater added in a hole I cut in the plywood so that the bottom of the crater would be lower than the surrounding road. None of these pices are painted yet, as you can see.

When the modell for Sanguinus first was anounced my first thought was how awseome it would be as a statue! But beeing a Chaos Space Marine player, I couldn’t just leave it as a regular statue. Of course I had to defile such a celebration one of the Imperiums heroes! So I mounted him on a column from Forge World, made a rock from polystyrene and a fountain of plastic and plaster surrounding it. I used a dremel to cut of his head and replaced the Iron Halo with a Chaos icon! The surrounding area and water in the fountain is going to be covered in dead guardsmen and spacemarines to represent a last stand defending this (what used to be) holy site. Of course Chaos won (at least on this city tile) and cut of the head with a melta. You can see Sanguinus’ head lying at his feet if you look closely on the second picture.

This tile is not finished yet as I have to glue more corpses and rubble to it. When I’m going to paint it, I will use water effect mixed with reds to make the water.

For your next batch, may I suggest using the stuff you use to fill bird cages with... I don't know the name, but it often smells like aniseed.

If your throw in just a little bit of it in your paint, you will get instant texturing, much like the texturing that was brought by using the textured spray cans GW made, I think they're discontinued now.

This makes your road sections a little more textured, but not too much. It will make drybrushing them more fun. Check my log to see what I mean.

Good start! Smart idea to raise them, so you can add craters (have not done that myself).
