    The purple helmets, Slaaneshi WoC

Boosted by a sudden desire and drive to get stuff painted, I've managed to get lots of stuff done in the past few weeks (at least compared to my usual pace of a mini or two every few months), in an effort to keep this up (and have an excuse not paint my tanks) I'll kick off this plog with the results.

In order to get my chaos warriors suitably decadent for a Slaanesh themed force I went the primary colours of purple and gold for my warriors and knights. The marauders got primarily shades of brown for their leathers and furs, but I've made an effort to add in purple here and there, to bring the army together.

The green flocked bases seemed good enough a few years ago when I painted the first minis, but as my level of ambition and willingness to try new stuff has increased, I find they no longer cut it. The brown bases are what I'm going for now, and I'll probably try adding some static grass to them as well to break up the monotonous brown.

So, first out - My knights.

Champion made from an old lord sculpt with a chosen head, and the axehead swapped for a gorkamorka wrecking ball to produce a truly massive mace. Orginally I was going to use him as character (and I still might) but usually he just acts as unit champion.

The entire unit. As mentioned, their bases will get redone.

    More pics in next post.

Inspired by the "The Were of Fjir" in the Hordes of Chaos book I wanted werewolf themed spawn. I think it was Avian who inspired my to use rat ogres. I'm very happy with the result, although I might go back and add some purple to the boils and such.

One of my friends gave me and old Scylla model with a rather messy base. While Scylla turned out alright and fits in reasonably well with the other two spawns, The base needs more work.

Chaos warriors are awesome! Everybody loves Chaos warriors!

...but their bases suck and needs to be redone.
    Also, my mounted sorcerer.
Currently their 18 strong and has previously been fielded 5 wide. With new bases and new tray they'll be 6 wide and reinforced by another 6 guys.

One of my other sorcerers and occasionally army general, Hedwiga.

Nowadays she has a shield as well, but I forgot to take new pics of her. She still has the some old boring green base though.

    Horsemen!

Very happy how these turned out. Might try some tufts of static grass on their bases and some of them need to carry a few more spears. I just need to figure out a way to add them without this unit being harder to rank up than it already is.

Eirik the fair, my most-of-the-time general.

Still not sure what to do with his base though. Something suitably awesome I guess.

    And my latest addition...

Hasslefree's Kalee with her signature necroaxe swapped for a wood elf sword. While she fits in with the overall look of the army, she is tiny! She barely reaches the shoulder of a regular warrior, so naturally I'll probably have to field her as a Chaos lord. Or just keep her in the cabinet as a mascot.

Love the Werewolves, WereScylla and the Marauders.

I like the Marauders, and the use of Hasslefree figures. I like them all, and not just because they're purple!

If you don't mind me saying, I don't think the Knight Champion looks 'right'. I think that the Marauders and Spawn are great, particularly the Scylla figure.

Oh no, I agree to some extent, he does look a bit off as the unit champion, but until I can find a sixth old-style knight, he'll have to do (I rebuilt the original champion model to be my mounted BSB, he's still unpainted though. :P )

Thanks for the kind words everyone! I have a 4th spawn planned, as a friend of mine has given me free reign to build one off the plastic spawn sprues he got to mutate his 40k genestealer cult. Currently I'm torn between making it resemble a bunch of marauders fused togeteher or something more resembling my "werespawns".

Great army. Your horseman colors are fantastic. Realistic with a nice separation of browns. I'm going to shamelessly copy them when I get around to painting mine.

I have to agree with everyone else, your Spawn turned out great!
I really like how coherent your theme is, and how well you are sticking to it.
Those Marauder Horsemen are particularly striking. I almost like their bases better as they are now, it contrasts nicely with the pale horseflesh.
The only thing I would suggest is a little more attention to those mold lines. I abhor the scraping process myself, but I've found it worthwhile in the end.

    Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the kind words everyone. As everyone seem to like my horsemen, I'll guess you'll be happy to hear that I just ordered 5 more.

@8bitMummies: Moldlines are a pain. You've think you've gotten rid of them only for them to show up, clear as day once you start painting. I might go back to give at least the spawns a fixer up, but I'm not sure I can do without screwing up the overall look. On the other hand, they're a ridiculously simple paint job, so redoing them from scratch wouldn't be that bad.

Oh, and I forgot about my mercenary cannon:

Not a huge fan of the hellcannon, so I went with this instead. Gave it a minor touch up since I took the picture, and I need to redo the crew's bases.

Thanky much. I've very happy with the purple myself. Looks properly regal and decadent. Have begun work on the next warrior unit (with halberds!) and 6 more knights. Not much to see right now, but hope fully some WIP pics tomorrow.

Currently left to paint in this army:

    6 Knights
    18 warriors with halberds
    30 Marauders with shields
48 Marauders with great weapons (need to find two more)
1 Chaos lord on griffon (counts as manticore)
    1 Mounted BSB
    1 Sorcerer on foot.
    1 Hero on foot
    3 Chariots
    10 Chosen

Also, I have 12 more warriors, 5 more horsemen and 5 more knights arriving any day now... and some ebay auctions pending.

Re: The purple helmets, Slaaneshi WoC

WIP of one of the new knights. Excuse the crappy picture. Was limited to my roommate's camera (which in itself is not a bad camera, apart from literally being held together by duct tape and has way to many manual settings for those of us with just a passing interest in photography).

Really love the chaos plastic kits. Hopefully this unit will be done this weekend, forcing me to deal with the lack of place to spray paint, as the cats broke the shelf on the balcony I usually use. If confronted by the threat of grinding to a complete halt when it comes to painting, I'll probably be able to summon up the energy to fix it.

very nice use of colours & convertions, just 1 advise, try using more water/layers to make te colour look stronger/healthier.
