The Old ones Shine Upon the Sun Lizard...

I for the fourth time now on warseer fantasy project logs say, 'Hello! I am starting a another army!'

Anyways yes this time i have finally turned to the forces of good, well order. As the log title says its all things scaly and lizard like. This is an army what wont include much conversion work its mainly doing the bases to a nice standard to create a nice scene as well as the models being placed in a more dynamic pose as a group.

This was meant to be my tale of painters log but the way i am moving seems that i will be done before September even begins! Upto now in the last 3 or 4 days ive achieved so much that i couldnt even believe i have done so myself for how bad a record i have of painting my models!

Anyways your probably wanting to see what i have in store for ya!

Well as a list i believe my army was going to be around like this. as a basic.

+Slann with two disciplines + cupped hands

+skink preist, level 2 (3) on ancient stegadon

+skink priest, level 2 with some random item that i couldnt decide

+skink priest, level 1 set bare to keep it cheap

+30 Saurus warriors, Spears, Full command

+24 Skinks, Full command, 1 Kroxigor

+24 Skinks, Full command, 1 Kroxigor

    +10 Skink Skirmishers

    +8 Chameleon Skinks

    +Stegadon Ancient

Perhaps maybe a few things changed around after but meh you get the idea. Theres alot of painting to do as you can see but i seem to be already half way through this list in 3 days or so!

    So yeah pictures!

A full unit done but without the bases done and few details...

See now this is my problem... i aint too sure what to the bases like as i really want them to stand out but not take the colour and brightness away from the units skin(k) colour...

    Any Ideas????

I like colors on your minis. Not sure what to say about the bases though. Desert theme?

Well thats what i was thinking about but then it is going to end up blending in the skin colour of my army i fear, my plan is to do a range of bases and see how they work, probably do a little poll on here in a couple hours to see peoples opinions.

i am hopefully getting 3 kroxis today, the older spikey ones so i will be posting them up tonight hopefully.

    Thanks for your comment!

Maybe a kind of Reddish brownish coloured desert base? Dark enough to not attract away from your main colour scheme but interesting enough to be interesting? I'm not sure. I think a Desert themed Lizardmen army would be nice as well, detactching away from the rest of Lizardmen Armies who are solely dedicated to the jungle.

The painting looks good so far! nice colour scheme. Keep up the good work, I want to see your Stegadon.

How about an african savannah look, a dusty brown (graveyard earth) with a mixture of short and long grass? Good start btw like the spot colours on the skink priest

sadly the stegadon isnt completely made yet as i do hate doing crew on big models like that but i am currently painting the stegadon. so i can post that up later when ive worked on the skin.

the colour scheme is so deluding to me that its driving me insane having painted models with no bases...

so your thinking a base of graveyard earth then what to be a second layer then highlight? id like a muddy colour one but i dont want it looking like my ogres bases. andhtat did include graveyard earth.

thanks about the skink priest im going to work on him tonight as he is one of my favourite models in the army atm bar the one ive been working on now.

    And here he is!

Yes i do love this model so much that he is the reason i started making this army , i wanted to use him as a 1 off painting project but i couldnt help myself... again.

More to come later on with kroixgors, skink priest, more saurus and of course Kroak.

    cheers & loverly

Re: The Old ones Shine Upon the Sun Lizard...

Well here is my late night update...

Ive not done as much tonight as i hoped due to illness appearing in the worst point possible... (when the loo roll is at an all time low)

I have thankfully worked on a kroxigor what i got from a friend before i went to my local chippy earlier this evening. Sadly i then found out that i have ended up three of the same kroxis! all the same runny short krox pose.

Luckily by using initiative and my dads metal cutters i did a bit of restyling on two of them what im going to greenstuff tomorrow morning.

i have also started a little plan behind the bases but sadly the lighting just doesnt seem right but im going to pop them up for now and then try and do them again so i can get everyones opinion on what bases would look right.

right some pictures! oooh and the poll pictures.

So do tell me what base style would suit the army best? or do you think there could be something else what would work...

    Cheers & Loverly

I think that something in a cooler color would help to "lift" and emphasize your color scheme better than warm desert tones. Perhaps a space-wolves gray based stony look. Or you could go for a tealish and marshy base (but that requires a bit more work)

I'd say a you should go for something darker. The skin is painted in sandy tones, so I would avoid that. Muddy brown, dark green, jungle / lush marsh would be a great contrast, and help lift your sweet paintjob.

Scorched brown -> bestial brown and glazes of different greens, thats what I would do. And keep the base edges black, or scorched brown to lift the miniatures more.

    Nice paintjob btw!

I quite like bases one or two, although having read SamVimes's and Sliver's posts, I agree with them in that it might be worth considering something that contrasts more with your paint scheme.

Hmmm, i'm not too sure to be honest, I was thinking graveyard earth because it's a very neutral colour that sits back, and so wouldn't draw the eye from the model. As a second layer maybe graveyard earth mixed with a little bronzed flesh or something similar to add a tiny bit of warmth. Then finish with a very very light bleached bone drybrush? Some long dry grass, with some darker, green foliage could provide some contrast.

Here's a couple of links to the kind of environment I was picturing your lizardmen in, I imagined them as guarding a sacred watering hole (read:spawning pool) in the southlands...

Just an idea, albeit not the most original one.

Look forward to more, whichever direction you take.

now the tealish marsh based base is what i think i actually may go for what do you think to the new one? anything closer to what you may think would look right?

im getting a base overload in my head when i look at these bloody lizardmen!
see i dont know if i want to keep it as a black base. i am quite fond of brighter style bases as you may see on my ogres.

You sire have made my planning for the bases alot more eaiser in which way i want to go. i believe its a journey to town to modelzone to see what materials i can get for foliage of the like what may match the right scene.

    Anyways...

Well today hasnt been as productive as hoped to be so i think it will have to be tomorrow when i start my **** in gear!

I have though got slightly more ahead on the base front. i have a new competitor in the form of a nice little muddy style fella right here...

Also this morning when i woke up i decided to get 5 more saurus done a bit more, this time i decided to do the command part of the unit. really starting to like them when they are put together.

thanks so much for all the help with your opinions!

    Cheers & Loverly

why thankyou for the comment dear larry.

well ive been busy as aof late moving into my place in up manchester so its been a bit slower for a while on the painting front but im back on track now, currently tonight there are plans for my skinks to get updated more, then also my skink handlers, then also work on the wood on all of the models i have painted on upto now such as spears and javelins that need a coat of brown on them.

im still very much stuck on the bases at the moment. but i really want to get on with them so that by time im fully moved up there i have a smnall complete army like my ogres!

i have been working on a few things, i have got started on a saurus scar veteran and i also have worked on a salamander but i need to work on a few little bits i think.

Anyways its time to show the pictures...

a little bit of work n progress for tonight...

    cheers & loverly

Re: The Old ones Shine Upon the Sun Lizard...

Well it has been a while since I have been on this dear old site with any of my workings... sadly that is due to the fact I am now in my third year of university and working like an elf the night before christmas...

Anyways on the side of lizard things, sadly I havent been able to keep up but I do now own a new bunch of lizardmen saurus warriors that I am hoping to convert a little bit.

Hopefully when I get back up to the north after xmas I shall get some work done on alot of my lizards and orges ready for the new year.

Anyways I will send you all the best wishes for Christmas in the only way best thought i can....

Thanks very much man, nice of you to comment on both my logs there. I not seen you before in the fantasy aisles of modelling before.

    Whats you army?

Re: The Old ones Shine Upon the Sun Lizard...

Still no bases? If yes, Id go for a desert red, almost martian. Itd give a good contrast without leaving the desert theme.
Anyway, though, some nice painting youve got there!

sadly still no bases I just cant think of what to do with them. I believe it be best to get the entire army painted first and then I may tackle the bases in like a day or two getting everyone of them done just like that. Means when I see the entire army as a whole in colour I will see the bases. Similar to how i have done with my ogres. a small army is now based and painted so I finally have a legal army for gaming

I just wish I ad the time to paint more to be honest with you. drives me insane having so many models and not being able to touch them cause of university work...

    Thanks for the comment though!
