Re: Wishing's Armies of the Imperium (sisters and marines)

Thanks! No problemo with pictures, although the militia have since been undercoated black in the bits that weren't, so some of them are a bit hard to make out. What I like best about them is that since the heads came separate, I'm using the same heads for these guys as the militia cavalry (rough riders), creating a visual link between them.

Also, here is a standard bearer that I made many years ago for the unit, who doesn't have a new head but fits in well anyway I think. Flanked by two marines from my friend's black templar army I've painted for him.

I also had the day off, and felt like taking some full army shots (painted only).

A lot of solo posting just now, but that's ok, talking to yourself makes for intelligent conversation. Hehe. Heh. Some progress on the knight. It's actually great fun to make, basically everything is just foam cut into the right shape.

I quite like the militia, a very unique look I think. The banner is great too, the model seems to fit in so well theme wise without being too Fantasy like.

Really loving your Sisters of Battle there, Wishing, that confessor and missionary are particularly cool! Very grimdark

The Arbites look very slick too, some very nice stuff here. I particularly like your three Rough Riders! More of those please!

Thanks! The rough riders are currently being worked on, and I've got two more confessors and a handful of priests in the works too. The original confessor is getting the book on his back banner pole replaced with a modern and much better looking one.

You don't see Sisters very often these days, keep em coming.

Re: Wishing's Armies of the Imperium (sisters and marines)

It's been a while without an update, for the good reason that I've been completing the Knight Paladin among other things. However, I'm also slowly working on the sword sisters I mentioned earlier. I'm a little bit dubious about them to be honest - I originally wanted to do them because someone on a sisters mailing list once wrote some rules for a sister unit called Malachim, with CC weapons (in the days before Repentia). I liked the idea a lot, but now I've made some they look a bit "wrong" and non-sister like in some fashion. I only have enough pieces to make three anyway, so I figure I will make these three and maybe write some rules for them as a special character unit, a la the three musketeers, but leave the project as that. Here is a pic of the current progress:

And here is a pic of the knight for any who haven't seen the other thread.

Ooh, I like the Knight. Very effective use of simple shapes.

The Arbites also catches my eye, although I like them as-is.

Just finished the first set of restored blood angels. Now to do the rest of them up in the same style!

Your sisters are very beautiful. Keep up the good work.

Re: Wishing's Armies of the Imperium (sisters and marines)

Thanks! I know the sisters are more interesting because there are fewer armies of them around, but the new blood angel vehicles have got me inspired to paint red, so I got one of the new dread kits and some extra arms. I just love that you can swap the dread arms around so easily, and with the blood angel kit, you can even swap the sarcophagus pieces. Here it is WIP with two of the eight arms I got.

The dreadnought is excellent, as are the rest of your Blood Angels. I like the slightly duller reds and worn golds, it gives a more battle worn look, without the obvious weathering people do. I like a lot.

I like the weathered look on the Blood Angels too. I see you used some of the AOBR Marines and replaced their heads - cool! This squad looks like it's advancing into the teeth of enemy fire.

Dreadnought looks totally pimp aswell, mate, as does your Knight Paladin - have you gamed with either of them yet?

Care to tell us how you did the head swaps? I would like to try that with my old SM too.

Re: Wishing's Armies of the Imperium (sisters and marines)

Thank you! I haven't played with any of these models yet (or in a long long time). My only opponent plays Black Templars exclusively and I'm not big on imperium vs. imperium, though I might give it a go sometime anyway to get to use the new dread.

There's a pic of how I converted up the head-swapped marines in post nr. 9 of the thread. The base bodies are actually 2nd ed marines, not AOBR marines, but the boltguns are from AOBR. The heads are just normal plastic kit heads.

Managed to finish the dread, and showing off some assault marines that are just about done too.

As I mentioned before, I'm really happy with the ease of weapon swapping.

The latest batch of BA's are looking great, really dark. The skull on the beaky helmet is really good.

Re: Wishing's Armies of the Imperium (sisters and marines)

Thanks, I appreciate it! I look forward to getting the army looking good and uniform so I can take some nice army shots. Recently I went back and finished the dread with some detailing, I decided I missed the blue colour from the studio psyker dread, and bulked up the first tactical squad some more.
