GW's paints Versus Vallejo paints ??

This has probably been answered before but which is better GW's paints or Valleyo paints??
And if Valleyo where do I buy them - I've looked on the website but there is no buying system on it.
I hope Valleyo paints are cheaper because £2.00 for a pot of acrylic paints are a bit expensive.

cheers - desperate painter in need

Most hobby stores (other than GW) will carry the Vallejo paints. Prices are comparable, but the Vallejo tubes seem to last longer.

Not wanting to get you down, but there's hardly ever a conclusion to this thread, they both have different qualities (although overall those with louder voices say Vallejo). You can get them at most hobby stores (other than GW).

Thumbs up Re: GW's paints Versus Valleyo paints ??

I've used all sorts of brands, but I'm most happy with vallejo - I guess with alot of people its the "brand" name that does it, but they are really good paints and I recommend them, although it takes a while getting used to thinning them as much as you have to! Oracle games is the cheapest supplier I've come across, at a pound a bottle.

^^ thats where i got mine from, and tbh ive never looked back. Vallejo seems to have more pigment than gw. And once u get used to the names ull be flying. However i do prefer gw metalics.

I use V game colours but GW's Black and metallics.

Gives me what I'm after and I'm happy with it.

vallejo for most everything but GW's Mettalics are far superior and easier to work with.

Seems to be general consensus is Boris for flat colours, GW for inks and metallics. Having finally tried them out, I'm tempted to agree.

Number of sources for Vallejo in the UK, why not try the Coat D'Arms range? They used to supply GW prior to their current range.

I use a mix of paint more Vallejo these days, though I use GW inks.

    Tecnically incorrect.

The current range has been made by two suppliers. The current supplier is Marcel Guest Ltd and they make paint superior than the first supplier of the clear hex pot paint.

I'm having trouble mixing Vallejo paints. They are impossible to merge actually. I guess it's just 'cause I'm using both model colour and the miniature line. Anybody else who has experienced this?

I have no trouble , however i always add a tiny drop of glaze into any mix to keep it fluid.

Which is not relevant to the topic being discussed, is it?

So lets keep this discussion to the merits or otherwise of Citadel vs Vallejo paints. If you want a more general discussion about model paints, then start another thread.

Not when you have been instructed to stay on topic by a member of the Warseer Admin/Mod team it isn't.

Now lets return to the topic shall we?

Re: GW's paints Versus Vallejo paints ??

Wow! I took part in a discussion the same as this on portent!

Vallejo paints are by far the best, some of the paint ranges do 'separate' (red especially). BUT the cure-all is Windsor&Newton 'Flow improver' or future wax or many other Acrylic flow imrover/enhancer etc.....

Coat'd'Arms aren't bad for that 'old school' lid snapping off experience, they do seem to blend easier than any of the above.

But Vallejo Model and game colour have bigger bottles, better lids, and more pigment.

So make your own mind up........
