    Wulfen_Kind's DAs & Caliban Lions

    Hi all,
For almost 18 months now I've been working on a Dark Angels Battle company with some VERY slow progress that is mainly due to a job which totally eats into my spare time. I would often find myself doing horrible shifts where I would start at 4pm finish at 1am, then start again at 8am to finish at 5pm, this would leave me completely knackered and thus would find myself playing copious amounts of Battlefield Bad Company 2 and such with Silentsmoke as its was a far easier option than painting. This did not however stop me from buying more models and building them from time to time. I began my new job on September 1st which consists of shifts %99.9 of the time in the evening working a nice 37.5hr week compared to the 50+ my last job entailed. So now I have no excuse to not paint...

With the battle company I wanted to concentrate on kit bashing the marines to have a bunch of gear on them, I find it a little frustrating to see marines who go into battle with only the magazine they have loaded for ammunition so
it was important for my guys to have as many pouches and grenades as possible on them. Then naturally I will have lots of support units like dreadnoughts, artillery, tanks and every bodies favourite; Terminators.
The plan is to also include guard units to accompany them to provide lots of armoured support and long range heavy fire power in the form of a Shadowsword Domination Force Apocalypse formation with some additions like, vultures, Valkyries with Storm troopers and some air support in the form of x2 Lightnings. This is mainly inspired from reading the HH books, I like the idea of the "Caliban Jagers" but we have yet to find out if they go bad, so my regiment will be the "Caliban Lions" and will be done in a similar colour schem to the Marines...

So here is what I have completed so far, but I do seem to pick up on bits that need touching up every time I pull the models out of their case:
    Mostly completed command unit:

    Tactical Squad 1, completed

Tactical Squad 2, completed, but am contemplating repainting their tactical squad markings

Re: Wulfen_Kind's DAs & Caliban Lions

    Anti-tank Devestator Squad, completed

    Anti-infantry Devestator squad, completed

    Assault Squad 1, completed

    Assault squad 2,completed

I also have x2 more Tactical Squads that I need to buy some Tactical squad shoulder pads for, then they will be %100 completed.

Other units that have been built and are in need of painting:
x2 Sterguard Squads with Drop Pods (will be in Deathwatch colours, with Deathwatch and DA icons)
x3 Deadstorm Drop pods (again in Deathwatch colours)
    x3 Shooty Terminator squads
    x2 Assaulty Terminator squads
x1 Chapter master with honour guard
    x5 Dreadnoughts
    x1 LR Prometheus
    x1 LR Crusader
x1 Master of the forge with thunder hammer
    x2 Thunderfire cannons
    x2 Lightnings
    x1 sentinel squadron
    x1 Shadowsword
x6 Leman Russ tanks (x3 different variants, all need building)
    x2 Storm Trooper Squads

I'm going to start on one of the Storm trooper units today to paint somthing other than marines for a bit...

Impressive progress mate. The DAs look great. I'm keen to see how you go with that massive list of minis.

I like the little details on the backpacks for each squad, helps to define which is part of which squad...in other words I may have to nick it! :P

I wanted to take it further and have each of the x6 Tactical Squad's to have the same colour back packs but with different colour "Tactical Arrows" on their right shoulder pad but from what I have done so far it will look much better to have them all white as it really breaks up the model...

They look good though. Well painted and Crisp.

My only criticism though, I think the Dark Green needs breaking up with some sharp highlights to bring out a bit more depth and compliment the Softer highlighting you've already done. Apart from that, looking good so far!

I know its a bit of an odd mix
I've always wanted to do Space Wolves as they are arguably my favourite 40k army, I don't feel that my modelling and painting abilities are up to scratch until recently for how I would want to do them, rest assured they are well and truly next on the list though. I try to play my DAs as much as possible and I usually get my ass kicked if it makes you feel better

I'll post a new battle report on our thread soon as evidence

Re: Wulfen_Kind's DAs & Caliban Lions

I've been gagging to paint a couple of units of Storm Troopers that have been kicking about for some time. I made a start on them Last Wednesday and wanted to get them finished on Sunday, although Nurgle sought to strike me down on Saturday and thus delayed their completion.

So through perseverance and my unwavering faith in the God-Emperor of mankind I have finally finished them today, with the exception of a couple of bits I noticed whilst photographing, and getting Silentsmoke to "Purity Seal" them.

They don't have a Sgt. yet as I want to convert him to be wearing a gas mask and wielding a plasma pistol with the appropriate power pack, which will require placing a couple of orders and will thus have to wait until next pay day. At which point I will do the other squad's Sgt. in the same way, strip the other Storm Troopers as they are already painted in an Inquisition colour scheme and get them painted up also.

In the mean time I will finish a "Sterngaurd" unit I started a few months ago.
They are all in Mk.6 armour with both Dark Angels & Deathwatch detailing,
The idea being that as the DAs are essentially a crusade chapter they would routinely send groups of veterans on tours of duty with the Ordo that probably doesn't harass them in an effort to better train them in combating Xenos and possibly spread their net further to gain more intel on the Fallen.

    The unit comprises of;
Sgt. with Plasma Pistol & Power Weapon
    x2 Veterans with Flamers
    x2 Veterans with Bolters
x5 Veterans with Bolter-Melta Combi Weapons

Looking great so far! The green and red match great, all of the painting is very smooth and clean, and the robes are just stunning!

Very nice stuff. The robes look particularly good. The DA's look impressive all grouped in their squads.

Really like the Deathwatch, great use of Beakies, I love 'em!! Are you going to add anything to distinguish them apart, and show their father chapters?

Re: Wulfen_Kind's DAs & Caliban Lions

No, They are all DAs. I wanted them to essentially be whole units of Deathwing that were on loan to the Deathwatch in order for them to receive further training and to keep a wider net in listening for rumors of the fallen. The next unit has a lot more DA icons and décor.

I also finished painting the Chaplain today...
