    A Million Little Projects

Inspired by Harry’s This Week I Have Mostly Been Painting thread, I decided to set this log up to track my progress with pics as well as percentages. I currently have ten active projects representing 280 miniatures. I will keep this first post updated as each project progresses, so you can follow your favourite without having to scroll through multiple pages.

Like many wargamers, I always have multiple projects on the go at any one time. Sometimes I feel like I have more projects on the go than I can count. So one day, I decided to count them.

    My projects are listed below.

Typically, I work on two projects at a time. As I make progress, the projects will be updated and finally completed (I hope!). There is always the prospect of finding more projects to do in my bits boxes though...

    Projects Underway

Project 6: Chaos Dwarf team (Blood Bowl), 15 models.
With the release of the Chaos Edition of the Blood Bowl computer game I've been able to play my favourite team a lot recently. So I've decided to bring this project out of hiatus and paint the models.
    Models acquired: 2002
    Current Progress: 62%
    Project Update: Post 7, 79, 97, 99, 100,

    Project 10: Fantasy Heroes (various), 5 11 20 models
I’m a sucker for a good looking miniature. I try to hold off, and most of the time I am successful, but every so often I crack. I’ll paint them. You know, after everything else. With a scenic base these should look good when complete.
    Models acquired: 1993-2012
    Current Progress: 25%
    Project update post: 4, 43, 45, 57, 58, 65, 68, 77, 81, 90, 92,

Project 12: Fantasy Villains, 18 models
Like the hero miniatures above I've collected, lost, rediscovered and sorted these guys out, plus looked out a scenic base for them to occupy when finished.
    Models acquired: 1993-2011
    Current Progress: 33%
    Project Update: Post 57, 58, 65, 68, 77

Project 14: Normans/ Men of the Riverlands (Saga, Homebrew GoT), 46 models
    Models acquired 2011 & 2012
    Current Progress: 0%
    Project Update: Post 73, 80, 101

Project 15: Imbrian Arts Goblins (other), 10 models
These are another convention purchase, they looked too good to leave on the table. I'm very tempted to write a skirmish ruleset to go with these models.
    Models acquired: 2011
    Current Progress: 30%
    Project Update: Post 73, 81, 83, 93, 95, 97, 98,

Project 17: Blood Bowl Trophies (Blood Bowl), 4 pieces
These trophies look great and I'm hoping to do them justice.
    Models acquired: 2002
    Current Progress: 0%
    Project Update: Post 78

Project 18: Malifaux Outcasts (Malifaux) 6 models
I could not resist the Viktorias box set. Just look at them!
    Models acquired: 2012
    Current Progress: 100%
    Project Update: Post 86, 89, 93, 95, 103

Project 19: Menoth reinforcements (War Machine) 3 models
    Models acquired: 2012

Project 20: Anglo-Danes/ Men of the North (SAGA/ Homebrew GoT) 44 Models
    Models acquired: 2011 & 2012
    Current Progress: 27%
    Project Update: Post 73, 80, 101, 103

Project 21: Warhammer Quest! 114 Models
I bought this on release, and models have come and gone over the years. With the imminent release of Bones I figured it was time to get the old dungeon minis back out.
    Models acquired: 1995-1997
    Current Progress: 63%

    Project 5 update

Here's an update photo showing current progress on the Mordor allies list. I'm about three quarters through this one, and the only troops left to do are a handful of Black Numenoreans, three Morgul Knights, three Trolls, and the rest of my characters. One of those characters is a Winged Nazgul. I'm happy with how this is looking so far. The varied basing is a symptom of these models being painted to fit either the Fallen Realms of Misty Mountains lists.

    Project 1 update

The Misty Mountains list is not quite half done, but I'm happy with progress so far. The Stone Giant is from Majestic Bear. The wild wargs are Warhammer Chaos Hounds, with the horns unattached and replaced with green stuff fur. What I wish I'd done is green stuff away the join line between the two halves. For some reason I didn't see it until I'd already started painting them.

This is a massive 1310 points, though not quite a legal list. Also, the dragon won't be part of the tournament list, so there's plenty more painting left to do!

The dragon was painted by a friend of mine a couple of years ago.

    Re: A Million Little Projects

September 5 is Father's Day in Australia, and as the prpud father of a pair of girls, anturally I was looking forward to presents of some kind. Usually chocolate and a card will suffice but this year my wife suggested some fogires for me to paint.

I took that one further and suggested figures I could (hopefully) paint on the day. I had a look at the GW website, for one-part figures that looked nice. I handed over the shortlist and waited.

As it happened the forecast was for rain all day, so I negotiated an early release so that I could spray undercoat the figures the night before. I opened the gifts to find Murin and Drar from the Lord of the Rings range, and a Wood Elf sorceress.

Here's how they looked on father's day morning:

It did indeed rain all day, so I spent a pleasant time on the verandah painting a trio of models, while the girls came and checked my progress. We had to go out for a family event in the afternoon, which meant my completion time was brought forward from sometime in the evening to 3.00pm!

Here's how the figures looked then:

Hope you like the bright elf witch! That one had a lot of colour scheme input from an eight year old girl, and I guess that shows. The green stuff at the bottom of the base will be painted to match the smoky magic sworls. The two dwarf adventurers are done. I enjoyed painting all three, and with regular check ins throughout the day I think the girls enjoyed it too.

I'm writing these three figures up against the 'interesting miniatures' project. Hopefully those two Dwarfs won't turn into a new army... ah who am I kidding?!?

Thanks - I've become a big fan of the 'tuft' basing material ever since I discovered it.

    Chaos Dwarf team

Here's the Chaos Dwarf team, patiently waiting to be re-painted. You can see the aborted colour scheme on a pair of the hobgoblins.

Now I'm thinking or reundercoating at least the chaos dwarfs black, and going for a gold and turquoise scheme, with a more faded version of that for the hobgoblins. I'll also make their skin less vivid this time round.

    Re: A Million Little Projects

I've been busily working on the Misty Mountains army, and I've finished my third formation of six warg companies. One more to go! On this company I used a slightly bigger chunk of Osgiliath terrain, soon the bases will be covered in that stuff.

If you can still count the number of projects you have on the go .... you are not doing it right.

Here's a progress shot of the Fallen Realms (Easterling) army. Almost done, only three models left, a pair of chariots and a warlord miniature standing in for Queen Beruthiel.

    Here's a slightly closer look:

    Wood Elf team

Here's an update showing the status of the Wood Elf Blood Bowl team. I dug out the Treeman model and gave him a white undercoat spray and then a coat of Gryphonne Sepia. He looks really good in the photo!

However I'm still going to paint him up "properly" and take the opportunity to base the rest of the team properly too.

The model is a 5th edition Wood Elf special character named Durthu the Treeman.

    Re: A Million Little Projects

Thanks Ancre. The Chaos Dwarfs are mentally painted in for 'when I finish the Rohan army' which is in 12 Riders' time.

Here's a shot of my current works in progress. Three spider broodling swarms for the Misty Mountains army, a Blood Bowl Treeman, and six Riders of Rohan for the Rohan army. They are all coming along nicely.

In the future I will take shots of my wip stuff away from the paint tray. All those splodges of paint makes it hard to make them out!

    Re: A Million Little Projects

A few days now since my past update. I should really post a screenshot of Civ 5 as my wip, since that's what I've been spending my time on. 29 hours of play since I bought it on Saturday. I know it's 29 hours as Steam tells me so. I hate you, Steam.

I managed to complete both the Treeman and the Broodling Swarms though:

I used a darker base colour on the swarms than on my other Misty Mountains bases so far. This is because it was pointed out to me that the basing colour I've been using so far is very close in hue to the fur on the wargs. I'm making it darker from now on to try to differentiate. I'll see how I go.

The Treeman came together quite nicely I thought. I tried to imitate Richard Wright's Blood Bowl board art on the base, which meant using a lot of grass tufts. Worth it though. The rest of the Wood Elf team will be based in this style just as soon as those backstabbing Persians get what's coming to them. Sorry, Civ 5 again...

some good stuff on here, i like the majestic bear giant as a stand in stone giant. I wanted to do some black numenoreans for a mordor list but the cost is just too much! ( did you see that in the WOTR errata on gw website morgul knights and black numenoreans should be included in mordor list and dont have to be taken as allies? )

anyways, keep it up. good stuff so far

Wow, my mouse arm hurts from being in the same pose for 40 hours of Civ 5. Is that what they call a stress position? I must be getting old.

Here's the latest progress shot, showing not a great deal of progress. The rest of the Wood Elf team is ready to be based like their Treeman teammate. The Riders of Rohan are progressing, not much more than the basing still to do.

The spiders will be giant spiders for the Misty Mountains army. The models are from ebob and I prefer them to the GW giant spiders.

Yes, I have the FAQ and love the idea of an all terror causing mordor army - numenoreans and morgul knights, trolls, castellans and shelob. Maybe a little at a time...
