    TwoKingMick's High Elves

Oh no! I did it. Here they are. One IoB and one battalion box. A Prince on horse and a few metal bits and pieces. I'm trying for one rank a week first. Let's see if I can do it.

Is it just me or are those Seaguard much taller than the Spearmen? I hope it's just an illusion...they don't even look like they're from the same game anymore!

Not an illusion. The sea guard are much, much taller. I'll post a picture in an hour or two. It's very off putting.

    Edit; Here's the photo.

Look! I've started painting. Amazing. I refuse to have them ugly archers in my army, so armoured archers it is for me. Just blocking in colours at the moment, will switch to the good camera for the closer to finished pics.

    Wow, that's ridiculous!

Really put me off collecting High Elves now, if half of the army are going to look like Dwarfs!

I know, it's terrible. The armoured archers actually look ok, their legs are a bit longer and the torso sits higher on the legs, so they're almost eye to eye level to the seaguard. I suppose I'll have one block of 10 spearmen and make the rest of my troops from seaguard and armoured archers. Shame spearmen are so good rules wise.

Thats a real bummer about the height difference

Good luck with the one rank a week, I hope you keep that pace better than I did! I think I averaged about one every two weeks despite my best efforts...

I assume you are going with white cloth seeing your base color on those archers, are you going to go with a traditional paint scheme?

looks like you might be able to green stuff an extended torso on the spearmen....maybe....
    It's not pronounced "ass-tarts" silly

Considering the fact that the spearmen set is not being redone, this seems like a schoolboy error on games workshop's behalf.

This looks promising. I will look forward to seeing the army completed.

I am doing HE now too. The sea guard thing is off putting as you put it. Im just gonna add fancy feather on their hats to distract from this lol. I like your armored archers BTW

looks like a good start ^^
you said you bought 1 batallion, does it come with 2 chariots?

i found out about eh seaguard heigh diffrence when i built the iob aswell, my other unit seems really puny and underarmoured compared to the iob seaguard..

    Old logs never die!

So, to prove I wasn't just another one of those tragic individuals that opened a new high elf log in the weeks following Iob only for it to never make it past the introdution, I've been painting.

You'll have to excuse the frankly terrible photography. It's late and the light is bad. The photos have totally washed out all the highlighting and shading on the white. But trust me, it's there.

First the archers from earlier in the thread. These are the rear rankers from earlier, finished but before basing.

And here's the unit. You can't see it in the photo but the banner is shaded and highlighted quite nicely. Just need to decide what to paint on it now.

And finally the pheonix guard. These guys take an age to paint. So much bloody detail. They are lovely models, I think I might be the only person who preferes them to the new white lions. They look much better in person, I promise. I was thinking of leaving the eyes pure white to be all magicy, but looking at these pictures I think I'll dot the pupils. Only fifteen more to go after this five.
