    Re: HereBeDragons' Paintathon

Dire Avenger test finished! Well ok I havent been brave enough to try the free hand symbol on the helmet yet, and the base won't be sorted out until I paint up the rest of the unit, so I can do them all at once... but otherwise its done! lol

Let me know how it looks, whether there's anything I need to improve. Its still not glued together yet, just in case

Looking forward to reading all your c&c!

Please paint all of them gems! That's my only criticism, otherwise it looks suitably fresh and interesting. if you can manage all of them in this manner I applaude to you!

What? Really? Would that not make the model abit gem heavy? Would the purple not then start to dominate the model? Certainly I painted him in the same (roughly) colours in the same areas as on the box lol. I did wonder about painting the gems in a lighter shade of purple, since I was wondering if they didnt stand out enough as they are. I'm making good progress on the next one so I'll try out a lighter shade on the gems on this one and see what people think. Should be done in a couple of days. Thanks for the comment though! Definitaly got me thinking lol!

    Re: HereBeDragons' Paintathon

Well, not ALL of them, but at least some more as you can't really see the breast gem, and one is simply too few.
Perhaps the ones in his legs and shoulder pad?
And not all of them need be the same color, you can pretty much change from orange to purple without breaking consistency

    Re: HereBeDragons' Paintathon

Dire Avenger looks great. I'm with you on the one gem per model idea, that's how I did my Eldar infantry.

Possible improvement: the brass/gold emblem dangling down from the weapon's ammo feed thing. It doesn't look to have a highlight on it. Probably just the photograph not showing it but if you didn't highlight it then you might want to, to make it match the rest of the gold on the model.

Looking forward to the whole unit!

    Re: HereBeDragons' Paintathon

Ok then I have good news and bad news:

BAD NEWS - I'm now back at uni so its practically certain that updates are gonna be exceptionally few and far between, I mean its taken me a week to finish this second DA and works only just started lol

GOOD NEWS - I've finished my second DA! see below. Also, in an attempt to make up for the above, I've taken pics of my imperial guard forces so I'll publish pics of them over the weeks to keep this plog alive! It stands at just over 4000pts so I should have plenty to last us through the term lol.

Now then some pics of the second Dire Avenger:

In terms of the gems, I've tried painting them in a lighter colour to help them stand out a bit more, though I'm not too sure whether thats worked. They could Really do with a coat of gloss varnish, but as I didn't bring that pot with me it could be a while until I get to do that . Heres a comparison (and I suppose army!) shot:

Hmmm... not sure you can see much difference there... Either way Im really not too sure about painting any more of the gems. Any preference between the two? Thanks for reading!

    Re: HereBeDragons' Paintathon

I think I favour the lighter coloured gems (guy on the left).

Still think that one or two gems per model is fine. The model looks too busy if you paint more IMO.

    Re: HereBeDragons' Paintathon

Unfortunately work has been hell this week so I have managed literally no progress with the Eldar, so instead I have some pictures of my Imperial guard for you. The army represents the 3rd infantry company of the Halon 22nd, with heavy weapon and armoured support in various quantites according to what I fancied buying at the time really! I decided to go for a winter/ice world scheme, using the Cadian models. I reasoned when starting the army that Halon was a ice planet, probably with substantial mineral resources to warrant Imperial interest, located close enough to Cadia to be supplied with similar equipment. Really though it was just cos I liked the cadians more than the Catachan models and didn't want to pay for anything more expensive! lol

So anyway, I have pictures here of the core troops of the 1st infantry platoon: 2 squads and the command squads. They also have a number of support squads that I will put up next time. So without further ado:

    Infantry Platoon 1: Squad 1

    Infantry Platoon 1: Squad 2

I originally armed these squads with grenade launchers, but when some friends and I decided to play a cities of death campaign, I thought flamers would be more useful, hence the extra special weapons.

    Infantry Platoon 1: Command Squad

    and shot of the standard

I've also got a picture of the army symbol, basically a capital H for Halon, which I painted on to the right shoulder pads

Finally a pic of the melta gunners from the command squad, converted using the GW bitz pack with some sculpted hands (which turned out reasonably I think...)

Hope people like them! I'm afraid I don't have the army with me atm so I won't be able to provide any other/better pictures, at least not until the christmas break. Thanks for reading!

    Re: HereBeDragons' Paintathon

Wow the plog sure does disappear down the list when left too long! Damn work. Got some more pics of my imperial guard for the moment. I have to admit Im having a problem with my eldar: the Dark Eldar models! I am massively tempted to start a collection of them, not too much of a switch when I've only bought one box of the craftworld eldar, so I've really not found the enthusiasm (or time) to get on with the Dire avengers...

Still check out the guard! 1st up are the 1st platoon support units. That is heavy and special weapons, and an armoured fist squad:

    Lascannon squad

    Mortar squad

Plasma gun squad (with extra model...)

    The armoured fist squad

    and their chimera

And as a bonus, my ogryns. I decided to save bucket loads of moeny with the commonish conversion from Ogre kingdoms plastics. Not too original an idea but the ~£100 saving more than makes up for it! Im quite proud of how they came out so let me know what you think!

Whoa! Those Ogryn must be the most pleasing and "Imperial" I've ever seen. Although I aint' no big fan of the good guys, these are really executed well!
    Especially their Rippa' Guns

    Re: HereBeDragons' Paintathon

Hey all. Clearly been too long since I posted so here's some more of my guard army!

Veteran Squad 1 - Tank busters - 3 meltaguns and demolitions

I used the guardsmen heads bitz pack from GW, and had a shot at sculpting berrets on to them. Not sure I did too good a job at it but oh well lol.

Veteran Squad 2 - Infantry killers (very good at roasting orks ) - 2 flamers, heavy flamer and shotguns

I converted the shotguns from the lasguns, inspired by an excellent bit of converting by someone on warseer. Alas it was a long time ago and I cant remember whose plog it was on! So a thankyou for the inspiration to you if you happen to visit!

    Close-up:

Also got a picture of my storm trooper squad:

    and finally some objective markers:

    Re: HereBeDragons' Paintathon

Good news! I've finally managed to start painting again! That means that (hopefully) I should actually have some real updates in the near future, rather than pics of my already finished guard... that noone really seems to care about...

Ah well I'll stick up a few more picks to keep the plog ticking over. Thought Id go for the tanks today since I haven't put any picks up of them yet. First up then is the hellhound. Done me proud on many occasions got to love that inferno cannon. Turret and hull weapons aren't glued so I can swap for the Devil dog or the other one... lol

Next a leman russ vanquisher. Weapons again are magnetised so I can field any of the variants

and a pair of standard leman russes. The three tanks together make up the 2nd squad from the 3rd company, 48th armoured regiment.

And finally my leman russ demolisher! lots of leman russ goodness today!
