Good! Well the scourges are nearly done, so should have pics of them up on sunday. For now though, hows about a battle report?

Had my friend (from the previous batt rep) over for a couple of games yesterday. Just standard scenarios, but I had my DE with me this time. You may spot the near finished scourges in some of the pics too...

    Lists

    Dark Eldar 1750pts

Archon (shadow field, huskblade, combat drugs, soul trap)
    Haemonculus (Flesh gauntlet, liquifier gun)
    Incubi x4; Venom (splinter cannon)
Kabalite warriors x10 (agoniser, splinter cannon, blaster); Raider (enhanced aethersails, splinter racks)
Wyches x10 (venom blade, hydra gauntlets, shardnet, haywire grenades); Raider (enhanced aethersails)
Wyches x15 (agoniser, hydra gauntlets x2, haywire grenades)
    Scourges x5 (splinter cannon x2)
    Jetbikes x6 (cluster caltrops x2)
    Jetbikes x3 (cluster caltrops)
    Ravager (dark lances, flickerfield)
    Ravager (dark lances, flickerfield)

    Chaos space marines 1750pts

I dont know all the equipment they had so this isnt a full list

    Daemon Prince (Doombolt, wings)
Terminators x5 (reaper autocannon, combi flamer, plasma and melta, chainfist)
    Marines x10 (melta, flamer); Rhino
    Marines x10 (melta, flamer); Rhino
    Beserkers x10; Rhino
    Raptors x5 (melta, lightning claws)
    Land raider
    Defiler (lascannon)
    Obliterator

Hmmm... lots of armour. I hate facing lots of armour....

Battle 1: Seize ground (4 objectives), pitched battle deployment.

I won the roll off for first turn, so deployed, holding my jetbikes and raider squads in reserve. Most of the objectives (represented by the unpainted bases of my hellions) were on the left hand side of the battlefield, so I focused my deployment behind the terrain on that side. It was fortunate that I did, as the chaos forces promptly stole the initiative. Rats...

    My deployment:

    Chaos deployment:

    Turn 1

The chaos forces storm forward, taking two of the objectives, and popping smoke with all the rhinos. The land raider targets the first ravager with its lascannons, not to worry, 5+ invun... oh ok weapon destroyed. The obliterator (from his perch at the top of the building) hits the second ravager with another lascannon shot, fortunately this one is mostly hidden behind some storage vats, so 4+ cover save! Wait what a 3? Hang on... boom! One wrecked ravager. The battlecannon from the defiler then wounds 4 wyches from my squad on foot, but they go to ground behind the woods and fortunately save everything. So after that shooting phase I've lost 4 out of 8 dark lances in the army, with only 2 on the table. And a wall of enemy armour to get through... oh boy...

    End of chaos movement:

So my turn, the surviving ravager floats about a bit, then targets the land raider full of terminators, penetrates but only shakes it. The venom flies over to support the center. The Scourges open fire on the obliterator, and rolling quite while manage to cause a fair few wounds. He then fluffs his saves and the obliterator dies! Woo pain token! Though having caused more than his points worth in damage, my opponent is not too upset. Not the forceful reply I needed there I must admit.

    Turn 2

The beserker's rhino makes it on to the central objective, and everything not on an objective advances. Fortunately for me the shooting this turn is completely ineffective, the defiler misses while doom bolt from the Daemon prince does no damage to the scourges (that is, I save them all). In my turn, the jetbikes and the warriors (in their raider arrive). My scourges take off to move out of range of the Daemon Prince, but I lose a model to the dangerous terrain test. In the shooting phase, the raider targets the beserker's rhino, getting an immobilised result, which isn't a whole lot of use considering it is currently sat on the objective. The venom and the scourges combine fire to put 2 wounds on the Daemon prince, while the ravager again targets the land raider and gets a weapon destroyed result.

    End of DE movement phase:

    Re: HereBeDragons' Paintathon

    Turn 3

Not much movement from the chaos forces. The land raider opens fire with its surviving lascannon and shakes the ravager. The Defiler misses the scourges and jetbikes on my right flank (phew...), then the Daemon prince charges the venom, but only manages to immobilise it. I forgot to mention last turn that my large wych squad moved on to the objective in the woods. This turn, the other wych squad arrived and, seeing an opportunity, I flew on the full 12" and disembarked them on the right flank. With their fleet move they were able to assault the rhino sat on the objective there, and with their haywire grenades hitting automatically, the rhino explodes. Wooo one down! I realise what I should have done was to consolidate them into cover, though I may not have had sufficient movement to manage this...

Elsewhere, the scourges take out the Daemon prince and the raider shoots the bolter from the beserker's rhino. The jetbikes turbo boost and blade vane the raptors to small power armoured pieces!

    Turn 4

The terminators and the beserkers disembark from their respective transports next to the jetbikes. Oops, I really should have thought this one through...

unsurprisingly, both squads are wiped out, but I do manage to kill a beserker in the combat. The immobilised rhino fixes itself. The marines from the recently destroyed rhino rapid fire the wyches to death, while the land raider detonates the engines of the warriors raider (killing 2). The Defiler stuns the ravager (despite another cover save attempt thanks to the wood). Then the rhino takes a pot shot at the wyches on my objective and kills one.

Now running rapidly out of stuff, I disembark the archon from the venom and charge the land raider, immobilising it with a haywire grenade. The scourges shoot the marines on the right flank, killing two, while the venom bags 4 beserkers.

(the jetbike is in the process of running away... backwards it seems)

    Turn 5

The beserkers get back into their rhino. While the termis head for the archon and incubi. Shooting kills one incubi, and the combi plasma gets hot and kills the terminator carrying it (lol!). The battlecannon shot from the defiler at the warriors scatters an impressive 11 inches, onto the incubi and rhino. An incubi is killed, while the rhino is immobilised again! The marines return fire on the scourges and kill one. The terminators then charge the incubi. My squad causes 3 wounds, of which 2 are saved (not good) and then the incubi are wiped out. My cowardly archon then decides discresion is the better part of valour and heads off back to friendly lines.

The surviving raider turbo boosts up to contest the easternmost objective, while the ravager shoots the defiler but only shakes it (which is of course ignored by blasted daemonic possession). The venom kills one termi. I roll to see if the game ends and it does! With me contesting the eastern objective, chaos wins 2:1. In hindsight I should have flown my ravager in to contest the central objective to steal the draw, but I was thinking about another turn in which the defiler would have been able to charge my wyches. Oh well that'll teach me!

    Result: Chaos Victory

    Battle 2: Annihilation, Spearhead deployment

My opponent wins roll off and chooses the table quarter with the tall building in it, however I win the 1st turn and this time he doesn't steal the initiative! I roll a 6 for combat drugs, meaning my units start the battle with a bonus pain token. Once again I hold the raiders and jetbikes in reserve, with everything else hiding behind terrain.

    Turn 1

I move my vehicles into firing positions, my venom landing on top of the storage containers and immobilising itself. Great start, but at least its got a good view for shooting...
My vehicles then open fire, and boy! what a round of shooting! The first ravager wrecks the rhino at the top of the table, while the other ravager makes the beserker's rhino explode, killing 3 of them along with it!. The venom then takes 3 wounds from the Daemon Prince. Brutal!

In reply, the obliterator steps into view hoping to repeat its performance last battle, but misses. The Defiler moves forward hits, but only manages to shake one ravager, while the land raider immobilises the other.

    To be continued...

    Re: HereBeDragons' Paintathon

    Turn 2

Jetbikes and the warriors arrive. Combined shooting from the scourges and the venom only manages to do a single wound to the obliterator. In return the obliterator hits the ravager and the land raider pens the venom, but both are saved as I finally start rolling cover/invun saves successfully. The defiler manages to kill a scourge with its battle cannon.

    Hmm short turn.

    Turn 3

My large squad of jetbikes bounces off the beserkers, killing 3, while the venom bags the obliterator. The ravagers then show their worth again, annihilating the defiler and immobilising the land raider! The Daemon prince is only saved from the dark lance on the raider by a fortunate invun save. Return fire at the jetbikes and the ravagers was all saved.

After that destructive opening turn, the chaos forces have been more or less pinned in his corner of the battlefield, leaving me free to pick apart anything that comes close. I feel that if he had just disembarked everything and charged he would have been in a better, and certainly more threatening, position by now.

    Turn 4

Wyches arrive and turboboost their raider to the top of the table. The jetbikes slice up the beserkers again, bagging another 2. 2 of the raptors are shot by the venom, but the daemon prince survives the scourges fire. Combined fire from both ravagers wrecks the final rhino. Finally moving forward, the marines at the top of the table wreck the wych's raider with their meltagun. The marine squad on the east side disembark and along with the raptors attack the jetbikes. The jetbikes manage to take down 2 marines, before loosing 5 in return, but the champion not only survives, but holds! The Daemon prince having dodged the incoming fire assaults the warriors raider, immobilising and stunning it.

You would have thought I'd have learnt from the last time....

    Turn 5

The surviving unit of jetbikes, combined with venom and scourge shooting, take out 5 marines from the northern squad. The warriors disembark then shoot the Daemon prince to death, and the ravagers manage to take a lascannon off the land raider. The archon squad charges the surviving 3 beserkers, kill 1, then lose 3 in return and flee. FLEE! Talk about fluffing an assault! The wyches in the north charge the surviving marines, killing 4 and finihsing off the survivor in the sweeping advance. Also the jetbike champion who survived last round is finished off. The land raider then kills 2 scourges, the terminators walk out into the open and shoots 4 wyches (they disembarked from the LR after it was immobilised) while the beserkers charge and kill the warriors raider, killing 3 warriors in the resulting explosion! We roll and the game continues.

    Turn 6

The beserkers are taken down by the large wych squad, while the terminators fall to massed shooting, jetbikes and the smaller wych squad. With nothing in range that could cause any damage, my opponent concedes rather than taking his turn. Final score 9:5 to the Dark Eldar!

    Result: Dark Eldar victory!

Well I guess that shows the importance of getting lucky with the vehicle damage rolls to my army. I've been aware for a little while now how weak my current list is against vehicle heavy armies. I needed alot of luck as in that second game to do enough damage to the vehicles to pull off the win, combined with some lucky saves when the return anti tank fire came in. In the first game, I was continuously causing minor damage to the vehicles with my dark lances, and not getting the kills I needed. The haywire grenades provide a very effective weapon but always leave the squad exposed to the contents of the vehicle, and I cant afford to lose a squad of wyches for every vehicle I kill. I have written a list that will be alot more effective Im sure, but it will be a fairly long time before I can scrape together the funds I need to get it assemble it all. For now I shall just have to hope the new edition makes life a little bit easier for me!

love the batrep! Your army looks fabulous on the gaming surface. I read the batrep several times though, because I had a feeling of deja vu. Then I read your post more carefully and realized you're playing against the same friend from a few pages ago!

The scourges look like all sorts of wonderful. I especially like the way you painted the wings. And the flames coming out of the flamer on the champion diorama/model - Beautiful!

Lol yeah! The only time I have the time for a batrep is when I invite a friend over to my parents house, and he's the only warhammer playing friend left in the area. I play a lot more regularly at cambridge but since its at a club I dont have time generally to write up a full report. Besides, I dont need everyone to know quite how often I lose

Im glad everyone likes the wings, those feathers did take a while lol. I was planning on using that purple up to red scheme across all my coven units to tie them together if I ever field such a themed force. Of course at the moment I only have the scourges and a haemonculus, but I do plan on converting up some other bits and pieces in the future...

Hapless gaurdsmen are my favourite parts of this army Those games were pretty bloody, but nothing like the game I played last night. A well played eldar army is pretty brutal. I lost basically my entire army and barely scratched his...

Well I've managed to finish the next dreadfleet ship, thats 7 down and 3 to go! I tried a marbley effect on this one, although Im not sure how well it works at this scale.

Since its sunday 24th of june, its now 26 weeks and officially half way through my years painting challenge. 78 models done, but I should be up to 106 Need to get through these time consuming dreadfleet ships and dark eldar vehicles, then blast through a ton of small infantry men to catch up There's a nice pile of warhammer quest models that should help me catch up at some point this summer...

Im glad you enjoyed it! Since I normally play pick up games at my local gaming club, I don't normally have the time to take notes for a bat rep, plus I always get my backside handed to me when I play there... A dreadfleet bat rep I'd love to do, just as soon as I get to play lol. I haven't had the chance in the last 6 months. Maybe once its finished I can talk someone at the club to play. Few can resist the lure of fully painted models after all!

Im afraid I have very little to show this week. I've not been putting enough effort into hobby time recently, though Im pretty certain I'll improve soon. Its been a fairly busy week, had my girlfriends parents down earlier in the week and my parents down this weekend, plus I graduated from university yesterday. I have been converting up some trueborn with blasters since they seem to be quite an awesome unit, and I've been struggling with tanks recently, though I'm interested to see how that changes with the new edition! Maybe I can get a test game in wednesday night, though I wont have read the rulebook by then. Anyway, here is the start of my trueborn conversion:

You can see where Im going with this, not a particularly original conversion, but an effective won. Should certainly make them stand out on the battlefield. Now, Im making 8 of these guys, all with blasters but I didn't have nearly enough spare, so I've tried converting some from the shredder gun you get on the warrior sprue, with the nozzle from the jetbike blaster. I've taken a comparison shot of my converted blaster (bottom) with a normal blaster straight off the sprue (top)

What do you think of these? I could do with any opinions you have on these and how I could improve them. Thanks all!

The converted blaster looks almost identical to the normal one - there's a slight size difference but that'll be hard to notice in the middle of an army or game. Well done!

cheers! Thats very true lol, I'll start complaining once I start fielding fully painted lists!

I played my first game of 6th edition last night, and it didn't go well lol. Using my normal army (which is definitely getting changed for next time!) I lost the one objective each mission quite heavily to sisters of battle. I conceded turn 3. My wyches were taken apart by a combination of Overwatch (bloody flamers!) and poor charge rolls. I only managed to pull off 1 out of 3 attempted charges. It doesn't help that the overwatch kills have to be taken from the front of the charging unit, and wyches have basically no protection against the wounds. I even rolled a 6 for combat drugs (so they all had feel no pain to start with), without that the situation would have been even worse! Although hull points are a handy rule, I still need more anti tank in my army. The +3 on the vehicle damage table he had from his exocist missile launchers (open topped, AP 1) was brutally effective against my vehicles. It was fun though, new wound allocation rules are so much easier/faster. I just need a better list. I think it felt worse than it was... I had a dreadful 2nd turn shooting phase, only causing 3 wounds (that stuck) which left me in a very bad position. We agreed my rolling was poor, while he was doing exceptionally well with his armour saves, so I think that made it all a lot worse than it really was. I had a reasonable plan for winning, I just didn't quite have the luck I needed to pull it off in the end! Never mind, the gaming room is running a 500pt escalation campaign this summer so I've written a list up for that too. We'll see how it goes!

Ok then! Update time, had a busy week painting wise! Plenty of time to paint when watching the tennis. So, first up are the final dreadfleet islands (which have already appeared over on the tale of board game painters):

I also finished building my blaster trueborn (except one set of arms which I need to attach):
