The Hekatrix looks ace and the venoms are great. I'd paint the pilots the same, although I'd be curious to read an explanation for them being different.
Great start on the Noctilis too!

Thanks man!
Cheers! I decided to go for the kind of glowy lit cockpit which I thought would be alot faster, but it didn't really come off very well. I'll repaint them to match the rest of the crew when I paint my other venoms. I don't know when that will be mind...

Awesome stuff, your latest dreadfleet ship was my least favourite, I like the purple blend on the sails (from your group shot). Dunno how it was done but gw plymouth's facebook page scroll down june 7th might help with a lit cockpit, hope it helps
Saw the link to your log in your signature and I'm impressed. The painting is crisp and the colors are very vibrant. The switching between Dreadfleet, Warhammer and 40K models is very entertaining to watch.

A nice set of ships for Dreadfleet, great colours!
And more poor guardsmen as well, I feel sorry for the harm that is being done to them.
By least favourite, do you mean it was your least favourite sculpt or least favourite paint job? If its the later I'd quite like to know whyThanks for the lit cockpit suggestion, its a great job they've done on it, but its not really what I was looking for. I didn't want to just paint over the windscreen. What I was trying to emulate (I realised) was Vansen's brilliant venoms, he has a log on the xenos logs section.
Lol thank you, my painting schedule does seem quite eclectic. I like to mix and match things, it keeps the painting interesting and its nice to make progress with more than one project, rather than leaving one to be forgotten about
Mwhahaha lol I need to get the next set of those guys painted. Hell I need to get alot of stuff painted! Need to pull my finger out and get this last dreadfleet ship finished, for some reason I've been really struggling to find the enthusiasm recently.

So 2 weeks since my last update, and the last ship still isn't finished! I don't know where the times gone tbh. The main body is nearly done, but the sails/masts are basically unstarted. Still, heres some pics
Also, I've offered to paint one of the super dungeon explore heroes for one of the guys at my local gaming room. We've been playing it quite a bit for the last couple of weeks, so most of us are chipping in to help out with getting it painted. Im doing the paladin:
I need to get the paladin done by wednesday, which will be fine, and I really hope I can get the ship finished by next weekend! Thanks for reading!

You'll end up getting me to actually like the Dreadfleet models. That "ship" is such a ridiculous concept, but you make it look good.
A very nice start on the Paladin, too.

Sorry buddy meant the sculpt just found it boring to paint, my favourites were the undead one and the chaos dwarf Kraken thing. Top notch painting on all yours tho espcially like the sails on your latest addition to the fleet
The Noctilis is looking great man!
Please remind me what you're planning to paint in the ToBGP, or post again in the signup thread. A few comments were removed from there (I'm not sure why) and yours was one of them.
So how do you like painting the SDE character mini. It's pretty different from Citadel models, don't you think?

I'd be very pleased to manage that! I really quite like the models, they're good fun. Whats wrong with a vampire floating around the sea on a mountain top fortress that he took from his home in Sylvania, which may or may not be about as far from the sea as you can get?Yeah ok its completely daft, but does make for an unusual model painting wise! Albeit an incredibly fiddly time consuming one.
Thats ok then, just wanted to make sure! I agree the ship was boring as hell, I almost lost the will to live painting all those bloody cannons, but Im pleased with the end result so I guess it was worth it
Thanks! I posted again in the sign up thread. I understand why my posts were removed, hopefully there won't be a problem again.
Very different! It was very pleasing though, once I figured out how to get the highlighting on the skin right the rest of the model fitted together quite nicely. Painting eyes that size is a damn sight easier too!![]()

Well the black kraken is still WIPbut I at least have a finished SDE paladin to show you! I really enjoyed painting this guy, and having played a few games now I'm really temped to pick up a copy of it for myself.
Let me know what you think of him!

The eyes are fantastic, and so is the skin. I found that very difficult to paint.

It's really good. The eyes really matter on these minis and you did them excellently!

Thank you! The skin took me a few attempts. I can't highlight the edges up in the same way as I do with the eldar! Several thin layers building up a highlight was how I did it in the end, and I am pleased it worked out in the end.
Thanks! Its alot easier painting good eyes when they are so huge![]()

WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO! I finally finished the Bloody Reaver! Painting this beast has been a huge challenge, not so much technically, but because of how often I had "I really should paint now.... nah lets shoot stuff instead" moments. The sheer number of details on this model, not to mention all the niggly little bits and pieces, meant that each time I painted something it didn't seem to get me any closer to finishing. I think the model is great, but my god did it take a lot of effort! I still have the ruler and other play pieces to paint up, but that is now all the ships in the set complete, which is a great feeling. Hopefully this last batch won't take me another 4 weeks to finish!
Pictures!
More to come...

I took this picture of the sails before I glue them on, since the one I thought I'd painted the best ended up being the one you can't see!
Then we have the final auxiliary:
And a picture of the completed dreadfleet! That is, the fleet of bad guy ships, not the completed box set. I still have 4 more "models" (can you count rulers as models, even when you have to paint them?) to go before the entire copy of Dreadfleet the board game is finished
It feels so good to have finished these guys! Im pretty pumped to get the last couple of things finished, so hopefully I can do that pretty quickly, however I am moving house this wednesday so that may slow things down a little. We'll see what happens!

The transition of the colours on the sails is fantastic. How'd you do that? I think I want to do that on the sails of m Ralgard fleet for Uncharted Seas.

thanks, but I suspect my camera is helping me alot with the smooth transitions lol. The technique isn't too complicated (and helped by the fact that the paints were already mixed up from my old dark elf army). There are 4 main stages:
1. Liche purple/chaos black
2. Liche Purple
3. Warlock Purple/Liche purple
4. Liche purple
Each stage is painted across the sail from the top down, cutting off higher up each time to create 4 bands of colour (probably obvious...). To create the transition, after painting on the band of colour, I would paint a stripe of the previous stage along the edge of the band, then get a little water on my brush and mix it carefully into the still damp paint along the edge of the band where the two colours meet. You need to make sure the paint at the edge from both colours is still damp, then you can get the colours to blend along the seem with the water. Its quite a rough organic process rather than one I can write clear instructions for. Its not that time consuming to do, and since you're only doing it over a small area of the sail, its easy to cover any mistakes and start over.
Hope my instructions made a kind of senseI'm basically trying out blending I guess. The sails make a nice large flat area to practice on, and its not like blending up highlights where you need to worry about light direction and all that rubbish. Good luck if you try it!

Congrats on finishing the ships, and the Noctilus in particular. The rulers and stuff will probably be finished in a single session, just as soon as you get to it.
I really like the different icons on the Auxiliaries' sails, and a little difference in their color scheme as well. The motifs on the Noctilus' sails are really well done too.
Now I really wish I could get my set painted too![]()
