Well, I can't be bothered revisiting all my tanks for that, but cool to see how it works. I think I'll stick to sand for now, as it seems a bit cheaper.
Thats quite a sensible approach. It'll probably be a lot cheaper, since it seems to take a fair bit to get a good base. It looks better I feel, but Im not sure I'd rush to do an entire army with it unless I was keen to use it for weathering purposes as well.

Lol it is certainly alot more convenient! go for it, it'll look good!

Great news all! The Talabheim Tossers are finished! Took quite a bit longer than I'd hoped but I had some exams so that killed alot of my painting. Fortunately they are over now and I spent yesterday finishing them all off. Here's the team:

    And now close ups: Throwers:

    Catchers:

    Blitzers:

    And finally blockers:

The one with the golden number panel is the captain (not that you need one I dont think, but I thought it would be nice to have one... and my girlfriend told me to). That gives my painting total a boost, however I think I should be up to nearly 70 by now if I'd stuck to 4 models a week since christmas. I think Im gonna have a busy summer of painting to catch up!

Thanks for reading, please let me know what you think!

Thanks for the look at the textured paint. I'm thinking about using the stuff for my Skaven army, but since that would mean that I'd need tons of it I'm undecided. Couldn't you make something extremely similar with a bit of sand, white glue and paint for a fraction of the cost?

The team shots look nice, although I have a bit of a problem with the dirty white in the close-ups.

Problem? How so? They are a bit rough. Please let me know how it could have been better, criticism will help me improve next time.

Im sure you could make your own textured paint stuff. Would need a bit of experimentation to get the consistency right but would certainly save you a pile of money. If you want some realistic mud, check out the stuff on this guys land raider:

    http://www.warseer.com/forums/showth...ns-project-log

This is the recipe he posted up, I hope he doesn't mind me reposting it here. Big nod to Ifarnin21!

the mud recipe is as follows, a healthy squirt of water effects (like pva), another healthy squirt of realistic water (like water), a teaspoon of baking powder, half teaspoon of light green static grass, half teaspoon of yellow static grass, dark brown weathering powder, a squirt of dark brown paint, and a squirt of black paint, teaspoon of plain flour and a few drops of water. it actually behaves like real mud, dries like real mud, and when water is re-added it returns to a slushy muddy constistency.

Aw heck, like I am in any position to do that.
I would have tried to paint the legs with a more even coat of white, but then that is fairly tedious when working with that colour. And pursuing my personal style I frequently end up with a lack of contrast between shade, base colour and highlight.

    Thanks for linking to this.
That's a fairly elaborate recipe, but the ingredients aren't hard to come by and the result looks marvelous. I'll have to write that one down somewhere I don't forget about it.

Ah! Yes thats fair enough. I got lazy I would have preferred a smoother coat. Perhaps using pure skull white as the final highlight was too sharp, without any smoother transitions to build up to it. I can always neaten them up at some point. Thanks!

Unit finished! (At last!) With these 15 wyches finished, I will have fully painted all my troops units in my current army list! This leaves me with the scourges (5), jetbikes (3), haemonculus, ravager and venom left to get to 1750pts fully painted. A mere 11 models!

    Unit pics:

Now, I REALLY have to get on with some dreadfleet to avoid jokering another month of the tale of board game painters, so that'll be next. Thanks for looking, let me know what you think!

Thanks. I dont think painting quality bears any relation to how much you enjoy the game, you're obviously too busy playing!

Well I finally finished the Skabrus and auxiliary. Its taken a long time with everything else thats been going on, but its my last exam tomorrow and then Im free for the summer!End of 4 years at university

Looks like I wont get as much done for the tale of board game painters as Id hoped this month, so I'll have to get extra done next month. First up I want to get the tomb kings ship painted, which should be done by next week (WOOO!! FREE TIME!!!). Thanks for reading, please let me know what you think!

Don't put yourself down. 66 minis is nothing to sniff at. That you are still pushing forward with dreadfleet when many have given up is really something. Love the bloated fish. Hope it's not for dinner!

    Re: HereBeDragons' Paintathon

Omnomnom! True, I managed a similar number last year, but they were all goblins and I've painted some significantly bigger/more time consuming models this year. I would still like to have got more done, but I have plenty of time (I hope) to get stuff finished and catch up. I enjoy painting the dreadfleet, the tale of board game painters has definitely helped me keep up with it. I hope to have it finished by the end of august. Since it was my xmas present from my girlfriend, if I get it finished I can justify asking for more models next xmas!

The shading on your Blood Bowl team's armour is brilliant, it looks really good! and you got them done impressively quickly too
Any chance we could have another picture of all your painted DE together?

Good luck getting the Dreadfleet ships painted!

    Oooh, Dreadfleet. Nice.

I also like the BB team and Dark Eldar. Maybe it's just a coincidence but could it be that you're using quite a bit of orange in your painting? I just noticed because for some reason it's a colour you don't see very often and it's great to finally see some orange.

Thanks! I did try out an attempt at blending on the army, which came out looking nice, although not necessarily blended lol. Since the last army shot, I've only painted a single squad of wyches, so I think it might be better to wait a little while. I have 11 models in my 1750pt list to paint, so once they are done I'll take a group pic of the finished army. Hope you dont mind waiting a few weeks

Thanks Im glad you like it! I hadn't really thought about it before but you're right, orange does seem to have turned up in this log rather often. Its a complete coincidence, I happen to highlight my reds to orange quite often, and it happened that red became my spot colour on both my dark eldar and on my night goblins. Then I chose to base my bloodbowl team in Talabheim and so red became a main colour! Oh well it seems to be working well at the moment so I guess I'll stick with it lol
