....noOver the last few years I've mostly bought models in a couple of large batches, one around xmas and one in the summer, and I aim to get them painted within the next year, or at least the same number of models done so that overall I break even with the painting. That means that the models here need to be painted by summer 2013. However, some of these models are in my newest army lists so I will probably be working on these before some of the models in my 2012 list. So long as I get 211 models painted by end of this year and another 20-30 models (haven't worked that out yet...) done by next summer I'll be satisfied
Thank you! I was quite pleased with how it turned out, I was dreading painting the white but it wasn't nearly as hard as I'd feared. I do love big boxes full of new minis (dont we all?). Most of it will be made as they are, but Im planning on converting some wracks and haemonculi out of warriors and VC ghouls.

Great painting, I love the DF stuff. The DE are coming along very nicely and I always get excited when I see people post boxes full of new stuff to paint.
You must show us your entire dreadfleet set when it is all painted. It is all looking really good!
Everybody loves new stuff! :P glad to hear you like my stuff!
Oh don't worry, a full box set picture will definitely be done. Im really looking forward to getting this stuff finished, it is starting to get tiresome. Although maybe thats just because Im trying to paint the Heldenhammer (the big red one) atm and its sooooo boring...
We've started an escalation campaign at my local gaming club, and although Im leaving before the end, I've joined for the first month or two. Starting at 500pts, I'm taking:
Hameonculus ancient (venom blade, hexrifle, animous vitae)
Wracks x4 (liquifier gun, acothyst, scissorhand)
Wyches x5 (hydra gauntlets, haywire grenades, hekatrix, venom blade, blast pistol, phantasm grenade launchers)
venom x2
Reaver jetbikes x3 (heat lance)
This will be what Im working on for the next few weeks (plus dreadfleet). I've got the basic conversion work done on the Wracks and the haemonculi, but much green stuffing to do. The wyches (apart from the hekatrix) and the jetbikes are already painted.
I also played a couple of games with them Wednesday night, and let me say that this list is brutalFirst game was a against a space marine player, with a master of the forge, tactical marines, and sternguard. We played the crusade mission with 3 objectives. 2 of which ended up in his deployment zone, while I placed one in the ruins in the centre of the board. He combat squaded to take both objectives and had the first turn. I hid behind some handy large fuel vat things so he had nothing to shoot at, and then zipped out down one flank in my turn. He had left his missile launcher exposed on the edge of one combat squad so they were filled with splinter cannon fire while my jetbikes bounced off the sternguard unit (by bounced off I mean attacking with blade vanes ending up back where I started). Perhaps you can guess how this mission went (hint: not well for him!). His footslogging units had insufficient speed to catch my jetbikes or vehicles, while I was able to pump out a ridiculous amount of poisoned shots plus all the bladevane attacks to add insult to injury. I tabled him by the end of turn 3 I think, losing only one venom and a single wrack in the explosion.
The second game was against an ork player with warboss, lootas, deffcopters and a mob or 20-30 shoota boyz. We happened to play the same mission, with one objective in each deployment zone and one in the middle. He sat his boyz on his objective while I sat my wracks and haemi on mine. I got the first turn so my venoms moved up and unloaded everything they could into the lootas he had deployed ontop of the storage containers. They were wiped out in one round (24 poisoned shots is enough to ruin anyones day). My jetbike zoomed across the board to hide behind the other storage container, leaving me in a safe position from which to attack his mob. His jetbikes moved up and immobilised my empty venom, but were in return destroyed by combined fire over the next 2 turns. He had left his large mob of boyz on his objective all game, and so I was free to take out the main threats to my army. He happened to roll the feel no pain trait for his warlord, and the objective he was sat on granted the unit +1 cover save. His big mob therefore had a 4+ cover save and feel no pain! I knew I was never going to take it off him, but since we both held one objective while I took both the first blood and linebreaker secondary objectives, there was nothing he could do to prevent me winning the game! A very odd game this one. We realised at the end he should have charged forward towards my objective and attempted to take that. I would not have had much time to stop him, so that would have made for a very different (and if we are honest, less boring) game and may have one it for him. It felt so obvious however that he should hold his one troops choice on the objective.
Oh well! Two very solid victories for me! Dark Eldar are brutally effective at 500pts. I may struggle against a list with some vehicles however, there is a particularly nasty looking necron army I will have to play at some point. Also, the objective based missions play quite weirdly at this points level, since most players only have one troops choice, and not alot of maneuverability, and so end up sat on their home objectives all game!

congrats on the wins! The new 40k takes some time to get used to (old rules keep getting in the way), but I think overall it is quite fun. I like the objective based kind of game. I've played two games at 750pts and quite enjoyed them. What is your verdict?
I think its good. There's not really that much difference to the previous edition, and once you get the hang of the new bits, it all seems to flow along quite nicely. Wound allocation used to take so much time, but now its alot quicker and easier. It helps that my new rulebook finally turned up of course
Played a couple of larger games last night, trying out my new 1750pt list, plus some jetbikes. Very odd as it turned out. My opponent was testing an 1850pt space wolves list for a tournament this weekend. We rolled up purge the alien mission (killpoints) and hammer and anvil deployment (play along length of board). I had the first turn, and what a turn! Ravagers blew up two rhinos while venoms decimated the closest long fang squad (he had 3 of course). His reply did damage to some of my vehicles, but none destroyed. I followed up with even more death and destruction, finishing off all his remaining vehicles (another rhino and a drop pod) plus a couple of squads. By the end of turn 4 I had practically tabled him! And considering this is probably the best player at our club I was fantastically pleased! It was also his first loss under 6th editionI have to admit a significant amount of luck was involved I think. For instance, the amount of kills in the first turn, combined with his inability to finish off my vehicles, even with a melta squad drop pod attack, more or less signalled the end straight away. One venom caused 5 wounds on a long fang squad at one point (not unusual), and he then rolled 5 1s and 2s for armour save! We gave up before the official end so that we could have another game, before he gave up with his tourny list all together lol.
Fortunately for him, the second game in completely the opposite way, with him taking the first turn and annihilating my fleet of vehicles. Seriously, a raider and all 3 venoms either dead or immobilised and out of range. The ravagers then only managed to immobilise a single rhino before being taken out themselves. My wyches cleaned up a couple of smaller squads, but not enough to overcome the shear amount of destruction inflicted on me in the opening turns. So it seems winning the first turn roll off makes a huge difference lol! Going second in that game, I would have reserved everything in the previous edition, but now thanks to the limit I can't do that.
My new list is (1750pts):
Succubus, Haemonculi x3
trueborn x4 in venom
trueborn x4 in venom
mandrakes x10
wyches x8 in raider
wyches x9 in raider
wyches x5 in venom
warriors x10
ravager x2
Means I've got 30 models to paint now to get my 1750pt army finished. Curses, if only I hadn't changed my list...

Well well well it has been a rather long time since my last proper update. Unfortunately a combination of procrastination and the sudden appearance of nice sunny weather slowed me down the last 2 weeks. Add to that I was trying to paint the most annoying ship in the Dreadfleet box: the Heldenhammer. You'll see why in the finished pictures in a second. First though, I (with the help of my girlfriend) have finished all the grand alliance cogs, since I hadn't painted the ones from the first two ships I painted way back in November! Here they are:
And now the Heldenhammer herself:
Which means I have finished all the ships in the Grand alliance! I feel a group shot is in order!

Very nicely done! I'm impressed by your progress.
Was it just the sheer size of it that was annoying or is the complexity or #of hard to reach places more than on the other ships too?
You got it done well enough though as it looks excellent in all regards.

Both! Its far larger than any of the other ships, and as you can see, there's alot of fiddly detail on it. Add to that, its not exactly an exciting model is it? The fiddly nature of the other ships bothered me less since it was all quite interesting stuff/the ship was smaller. Im quite pleased with it now that it is done however, it just took me a lot more effort to get on with this one, which I didn't find with the other ships. Maybe it also has something to do with being close to the end of the challenge and getting a bit tired of painting ships lol

Still not a fan of the game, but your ships look very good.
How small are those little ones? The freehands on the sails must have been extremely fiddly.
Why is there nothing yellow in your list?
In other words: What's next?

Shame, I thought it was fun, though I've still only played it twice. The little ships are about an inch high? So yeah the freehand is pretty small but you don't have to worry about making it look perfect for that reason. I guess Im also quite good at painting fairly neatly which helps. I think the most fiddly bit was basecoating all the gold on the big ship!
Because I haven't started painting anything else yet.Next up I want to finish all the green stuff work on my new haemonculi and wracks (I guess they shouldn't really have been coloured orange just yet...) which I've converted from warriors and VC ghouls. They're coming along quite nicely but I haven't figured out how to sculpt cloaks on the haemis. After that I want to paint up some venoms. I'll probably aim to get 2 done at a time. Unfortunately I don't think I'll manage to get them finished by sunday (I've got a busy weekend coming up) but hopefully I can get them done for the following week...

Another week gone and not much painting done. Its the curse of warm sunny weather I guess! I have finished my wrack and haemonculi conversions though! Here are my wracks, built from warrior and VC ghoul parts with plenty of greenstuffing. The 3rd one from the left has my conversion for a liquifier gun, using a splinter rifle and the spare parts from the shredders used in my blaster conversions for the trueborn. The champion has a scissorhand and the guardsman victim is built but not glued to the base yet.
My first haemonculus, armed with hexrifle and venom blade. Again, warrior and ghoul parts. The entire leg area is sculpted along with the cloak, which I'm quite pleased with overall!
Second haemonculus armed with scissorhand and liquifier gun. I have attached the victim this time, I thought I would demonstrate the effect of the liquifier gun on this guy
I have started painting work on the venom crews but nothing worth showing yet. Im hoping to get through a good amount of painting this week I hope! Thanks for reading, please let me know what you think!

Thanks Solun!
I've started painting the venoms and wanted to try the console lit cockpit that I've seen some people do to great effect. Mostly because I couldn't be bothered painting the pilot. This is the first time I've tried this effect and need your opinions on how to improve it:
and with canopy attached
It was done simply by drybrushing scab red then blood red over the black undercoat. Please let me know what you think of it!!

So painting this week, I've got two venoms finished, as well as a third hekatrix that I did at the same time as the crew. Need to paint the guardsman on the base though.
Hekatrix:
Venoms: (Let me know your thoughts on the pilot, I may repaint him in the same way as the rest of the crew)
I've realised that I totally forgot to add the red markings that I normally have on my vehicles, gonna have to go back and do them.... Current WIPs of the final dreadfleet ship:
I am of course painting it in multiple pieces, otherwise I'd never get to the detail! In other news, I entered my Archon (from several pages back now) into a painting competition at my local GW. The theme was Heroes and Villains (from 40k), and was decided by public vote. I came 5th out of 26, which isn't too shabby when I didn't spend any extra time painting it than I did my troops.
Anywho thanks for dropping by!
