    Still Loyal.... A Relictors Log

Well, as my camera's data cable appears to have totally died, I currently cannot update my Imperial Guard Log, so I thought I'd put up some Archive Photos of my other force- a [Loyalist] Relictors Warband/Army. Last time this army got used was with the older codex (pre-Thunderfire Cannon, for reference) and the rules/background from WD 295.

Please bear in mind that this force is still to be considered a work in progress. I set out with the idea that they would not be able to keep their armour maintained to the highest degree. In perfect working order, yes, but not painted up fully in the chapter colours. With this in mind, I started out with everyone in grey and weathered the paintwork to varying degrees (largely working on the idea of bared metal). Some of the armour parts have not yet been fully painted (hence the black sections). Some of these parts will be painted up in time, but some will be left black, to give the idea that they have been more recently... "acquired", and have only received the most basic covering.

    Right then, here goes:

First and foremost, my favourite model in the force (and best painted in my opinion) Brother-Captain Valnor, a Venerable Dreadnought-

There are a few bits that still need touching up on him.

Next up, a few 1st Company survivors, who form the lethal bodyguard for the even more lethal (and as yet unmodelled) Master/Captain.

This guy just wants to give you a big hug:

    Assault Squad Arnax:

    Sergeant Arnax himself:

Due to the army/Warband being made up of survivors, the Tactical Squads are of irregular numbers, and use scrounged armour parts and equipment from fallen loyal and traitor marines (the latter only after having been thoroughly cleansed and blessed). Waste not, want not, eh?

    First Squad:

I've reached my picture limit here, so photos of the other 3 Tactical Squads, the Librarian and his command squad, and some close-ups, will have to wait until this gets approved and I can do the next lot. Watch this space.

Next set of photos. I should apologise for slightly dodgey photo quality, if memory serves these were taken on a camera phone (5MP, but its still a camera phone):-

Second Tactical Squad (Sgt. Ajax), with (unfinished) Green Stuff Flamer-burp:

    Third Squad (Sgt. Trefal):

I knew as soon as I saw this helmet on the CSM sprue that I'd end up using it. With a few modifications (horn removal), it was ready. A suitable pose was also required, and I think I got that done.

Final Squad (Newly promoted Sgt. Skerral):

Company Champion. I feel the rank requires a pose like this, so it had to be done. The power sword is nice and shiny, and was done with the old Citadel Inks. Unfortunately, I am having trouble recreating such shininess with the newer Washes. Any hints/tips? Or does it only come up shiny once varnished?

Final Pic of this set (up to the limit again). The Command Squad that accompanies my Librarian (who'll be in the next set of photos). Fairly standard command squad, but it serves/served its purpose.

I'll get the last lot of photos up as soon as I get this approved.

Yes Relictors! Loved these guys back in the WD IA article and in the short story after the Eye of Terror campaign. Can't remember which one. But an Inquisitor along with the Navy and Grey Knights attacked and destroyed the chapters fortress monastery.

Anyways, these are nice. I like the gold but it feels a bit flat. Apart from that these are great, can't wait to see more

The short story was in WD 295, along with rules and a new mission scenario ("Daemonhunt!"). If you want to read the story again, I can scan the pages and put em up.

A thought for you though... Cyarro, the Inquisitor in the story, was later revealed to be a Heretic and a Traitor, and had been since before having the Relictors condemned. My question is this: If you are denounced as a Heretic by a Heretic, does it make you a Heretic? Or the Truest of the True?

On the flatness of the gold, that might be due to the camera (phone) used. It was a 5MP, but a cameraphone is a cameraphone...

I still have that edition somewhere around here hmmm...

If Cyarro was a Heretic how did he have the authority to command the navy and the Grey Knights? Plot hole me thinks, hope not. You ask a good question, I guess it at least makes you truly confused

I think he was meant to have been corrupted before the attack on the Fortress Monastry (Possibly at the Diamedes Archive?), but not yet a full blown heretic.

[Note to Mods: Just a little waffling while I wait for a photo post to be approved].
