Arrow Cadians for Golden Demon Diorama

    Hi all,

Would appreciate some feedback on these. I know the painting is not 100%, but I am focussing on conversion and overall appearance this year as I have noticed a trend in this. These are 2 chaps from part of a Diorama I am working on.

Wow, their injuries look very cool. Nice modelling! I would love to see the rest of the diorama!

Very nice, the painting is excellent! I like the poses to. Only crit, is that they could be weathered a bit, seem to clean to be in a war! But depends if you are going for that effect!

Yes, I wasn't sure on the weathering. It is post-battle of course, but once you start weathering, where do you stop? If I go for realism they they should be pretty much head to foot in mud, blood and dust.. Hmm. I will look at the whole group together to see.

that's some clean painting you got going here. but since you are using them for the GD, i might as well comment some more.
something that's freaking important for GD pieces is to make the faces look real or alive. right now, while already looking pretty, your minis lack the certain...uhm..realism. use some glazes on the skin, some reds and purple, even some green to make the colors look richer. try to use the purple glazes on the parts of the face that are more inclined to lie in shadows.
also use some simple washes to darken the lower parts of the bandages and the lower bodies of the guys. thin the wash down a lot and try to avoid water stains, the color graduation to a darker tone further down the mini will do a lot to make them look more realistic while really not being that much work.

i got what you said about focusing more on the conversion, but glazes and washes are easy enough to do and will go a long way in improving the overall look of a mini and thereby improving the entire diorama in general.

hope you don't mind me saying this.

    cheers,
    kenza

I really like the posing of them, keen to see the rest of the diorama too.

Re: Cadians for Golden Demon Diorama

I like what you have done and their is no doubt your conversion work is very good.

I have a couple of points to make though:
    1. The left hand of the blonde haired model looks a little large, particularly in picture two.
    2. It might just be the photo, but I think the numbers on the shoulder pads need a bit more definition and seem a bit hazy at the edges.
    3. Finally, the face of the helmeted guardsman is very nice, but the shading just above the mouth and below the nose is too dark in contrast to the rest of the face, you need to make this change more subtle if you are painting at GD level.

Apart from those three little points, I like the models and am intrigued as to the rest of the peice for GD.

    I love the idea.
And the painting looks great so far!
But I agree with other posters--
the faces look still a bit "cartoony".

This is some pretty cool shiz, any modeling WIP's? I'd like to know how you achieved the bandages on the blondie.

Re: Cadians for Golden Demon Diorama

    Thanks for the input chaps,

I will try giving the skin a couple of washes to tone it down somewhat. Unfortunately I have left things somewhat late this year due to other circumstances so I am slightly limited for time! The blonde chaps hand is a little on the large side. I may change it, but he is standing directly behind another guy so I dont think you can actually see it in the finished setup. In fact with most of these the models are standing behind each other, You know how the setup is when you take a photo with a bunch of your mates, all crowded together with some kneeling down? Like that.

Icecream Boy - If I recall I think i made the bandages using some of the old mordheim skaven bandaged arms.

As a side note, every single model going into this piece is converted. More photos tonight.

Re: Cadians for Golden Demon Diorama

If I may offer a suggestion as to a quick-fix to the over-large hand - perhaps some red/purple tones to make it look bruised and all swollen up? Just another injury to add to the catelogue

Re: Cadians for Golden Demon Diorama

The large hand mentioned, where is it from incidentally? And whats the idea of the two other Cadians here? Just another quick thought, maybe you should change the colour of the sling on that one guy, it may help to make it stand out a bit and add variety to the palette. Painting looks top notch too, keep it up =)

The large hand is from the Empire Militia/Mordheim Humans sprue. I used to play a lot of Mordheim, and seem to have a lot of bits lying around.
