My fantasy log - Vampire Counts, Empire, and Lizardmen

Hey guys,

I bought my Vampire Counts army between 9 and 10 years ago but it has been shelved for years in favour of Lizardmen, and later a couple of 40k armies (see my other logs in my sig).

But I finally want to give the army some much deserved attention from my brushes and paints and I started painting towards a 1000 points army. I just finished the first units which is shown below.

After this I want to paint up a 1000 points Empire army. I just received a more than 4000 points army from someone who quit playing and I cant wait to have a small painted force. It will be a gunpowder-oriented list because my other fantasy armies are so low on shooting, so it makes for a much needed change.

My lizardmen are painted up; 2000 points but there are of course always expansion ideas. I have a Engine of the Gods waiting to be painted up and in the near future I want a Slann Mage Priest. I will post pictures of my existing armies here too.

I've always liked Paul Muller's ghouls. Nice unit there.

Thank you. Yes, i really like them too. Only drawback is the many similar poses but I have bent some arms here and there which makes it a bit better.

Working on my Varghulf now (which is Melkior's old winged nightmare model).

Nice start! Have you joined the Tale of Fantasy Painters? It's a great way to keep you motivated. You should look into it if you haven't.

I quickly made a playable Empire list, sorting out what I was given.
After glueing some on heads, repairing speartips, etc I came up with the following army (excluding a mortar that i still have to glue together).

(The Great Swords champion will double as a Captain).

Just finished my unit of 4 Fell Bats






I also have a finished Vampire and Necromancer.
Next and last on the 1000 points to-do list is a unit of 18 Grave Guard.

Really like those Fell Bats. Nice stuff! I find the simple bases really appealing as well.

Im thinking about adding grass to the bases, the dead brownish grass but I havent really decided yet.

Today I finished my first test model for the grave guard...seeing how the colour work out and stuff. I'm really happy with the results so I'll continue with the scheme this guys has.

It was a bit of work but the unit of grave guard is done.

This wraps up my 1000 point VC list that I want to play around with, see how it works (VC as an army as well as this specific army list).

Next up for painting is the 1000 point Empire army.

I will later post a picture of my vampire hero that was already painted up that is also part of this list.

They look great! You've really captured the dark, dank and gritty theme of the living dead really well.

Can we have some daytime photos next time? The yellowish tint is messing with the colours a bit.

The photos arent that great...I'll try taking some pictures later with better lighting conditions. Maybe during a battle or something, to provide an illustrative backdrop

I do have one more thing on the agenda before I switch to another army and that is two bases of spirit hosts, considering I might need them for Wind of Undead.
