The Farseer Emrys painting an modeling blog

Here is my fledgeling attempt at an online moddeling and gaming blog.
I like to play, paint and game, so it doesn't get any better then actually gaming with painted miniatures on a gaming table with painted scenery.

That is what i'll be striving for.
So I'll post some pic's of my moddeling of miniatures and scenery, and of course of my games.

comments regarding tips , (painting/moddeling wise) are more than welcome!

There is always interest in anything anyone does! Inspiration is never unwanted. So yes!!

You certainly know how to take atmospheric pictures! You can almost hear the guns firing, the daemons roaring and the sounds of people dying.

    Cool Unclean One conversion!

Re: The Farseer Emrys painting an modeling blog

So last night I when through the trouble of putting my entire painted eldar collection on a gaming board to give you guys a look-see at what i've been up to the last 18 years of collecting and painting.
I soon realised that the gaming table was to smal to contain all my eldar!
so an extra extention to te table was added.

I then realised, whilst taking pictures, that such a mass of miniatures is very difficult to photograph propperly; I mean at a cetrain stage you have to zoom out to such an extent that it just becomes a nondescript mass of models and you're unable to see any details.

The horde of eldar in all it's "diminutive glory"

so for some , more close-up, pictures of sections of my 'warhost'

The mechanised wing of wave serpents, fire prisms and falcons

the swarm of guardians and wraithlords

    Aspect warrior assault annyone?

Some titans (one is a scratch-buitl eldar knight-titan WIP)

    and some air-suport

Ok so the lighting is bad, and there is no scenery or propper close-ups of models,
but i'll try and post these tomorrow.
I also have some inspiring pics of painted models in painted scenery, what more can one whish for? right?

    comments? tips? remarks?

That's a pretty intimidating sight. Really nice paintjobs. But since you asked for tips and remarks, I would really, reaheally suggest you paint the rims on your bases either brown or grey.

It may not seem like a shocking act, but I would ask you to try it on just two of your foot soldiers. Paint one rim dark grey, and one dark brown. I can't really say right now which one would work best (I am guessing grey), but it will make your models pop so much more.

Right now, the colour on the rims is pretty much identical to the colour of your army, diminishing the wow factor on the models themselves. It detracts from them. Painting the rims grey like your rubble is, will take away the focus from the rims and back to the models themselves.

I can assure you that it will make your models look better. It is an awesome looking army but the green rims are taking away from it.

Re: The Farseer Emrys painting an modeling blog

    howdy!

as much as I despise your eldar on the battlefield I must say they look mighty impressive all together.
That was some good advise on the basing. I was never a big fan of the green but I figured it more of a signature thing. But it never hurts to try something new.
Any updates on some new eldar wip? And when will they be ready to be crushed again by my army

    see ya tomorrow!
    cheers

Re: The Farseer Emrys painting an modeling blog

@ Daniel 36THe green rim of the bases is an old school GW thing, Back in the day when I started coollecting and painting, all gw miniatures had bases with goblin green rims.
All their battlereports were usually' on green grassy plains' So when I started out I wanted to paint my mini's just as the pictures on the box &whit dwarf..
    I never looked back..

time for a change I guess....

As we speak i'm painting up some bases of old guardians with 3 different coulours see what people like best. and then maybe i'll start the ardeous process of re-painting al the base-rims on all my models

@ tim, I'm working on some pics for my scratch-buitl viper jetbikes and eldar knight titan...
and maybe some old conversions, Ive got to do some cleaning in the house first....

It's not that arduous, but trust me, it will make ALL the difference.

I remember the green base era. Wasn't that during the Red Period? Guhhh....

Re: The Farseer Emrys painting an modeling blog

So to figure out what colour is best for base rims, I've made some pics:

4 choices: Green, Brown, Light gray and dark grey

    close up of brown

    close up of light grey

    close up of green

    close up of dark grey

the four options and some scenery (because it looks nice)

    What do you guys think?

I'm also considering black as an option, but my chaos black has once again dried up on me..!

Re: The Farseer Emrys painting an modeling blog

Also some work in progress projects (as this is a project blog right?)

In the old days..... One had to build their own wave serpents and viper jetbikes as there was no miniature from citadel or GW. They were in the first condex eldar, but there was no model available.
In these days we had to make our own scratch built vipers and wave serpents. or convert a Falcon to a wave serpent, They even had an article in white dwarf detailing how to make the conversion

You could re-model your falcon grav-tank to a wave serpent, the redundant cupola, guns an gubbins would help you along your way to making a small skimmer vehicle with 2 heavy weapons. In the past I have made several of those, and simply use them as ' Vipers' So In my army, a Viper is not a standard issue vehicle but more of a loose tern to describe a mirriad of smal lightly armoured support skimmers.

Some of my early ' vipers'

this one isone of my favourites, it was my first attempt at modeling with plastic-card

Now I'm modeling some vipers out of left ver bits and a few pieces of LEGO-bionacle toy.

they look more like fat powerful jetbikes, than the sleek cocpit-but still open-topped- i'm a jet bike but the rules say i'm a light vehicle-vipers you can buy in the store .

    What do you guys think.
    any good?

    Cheers,
    Merlyn

Re: The Farseer Emrys painting an modeling blog

Wow merlin, i had not seen those vypers yet, they look pretty sweet! As for the bases i would be inclined to say the light gray, but after taking a closer look i would choose the brown. Although i would definately keep few squads with the green base for good times sake.

    Cheers

@ tim thanks , you might try and paint some bloodangels oldskool style
    (red era )

Im currently taking pictures of my tau en Tyrannid/gene stealer army.
Also My horde of battlefleet gothic. I figure i've scratch-built system ships battlestations, orbital docks, weapon platforms, freighters and even entire cruisers.

there must be someone out there that still likes BFG!

oh wow! You have so much depth in your eldar army. You must really love it. Very impressive conversions, paintjobs and just the whole collection.

I'm voting for the brown bases too, but if your heart is set on any other, feel free to ignore me.

Y'know, when I look at collections like yours, I wonder to myself if we play the same game

@ juicytomatoes. Thanks, the eldar are my 2nd love though, my first love (warhammer wise) is my warhammer fantasy high elves,
yet my gaming group is more active when it comes to 40k so I tend to play that more often.
also I think 40k lends itself beter to making conversions than WFB..

What prodject/army is getting your love the most right now?

Im now starting to put some of my attention and devotion into tau en Tyrannids. I mean do I need more eldar right now? Appart for 2 of those new nightspinner tanks, finisching the viper conversions, and maybe a 6th war walker... .. you get the Idea

Currently I'm working on making my Tau army something that I can legaly field. I hope to put some more pic's of these up soon..

Right now most people vote for Brown base edges... hmmmm..

Sorry to throw a spanner in the works but I'm leaning towards the light grey. I also think your idea of a black edge might work nicely too.

I think the best look would be a darker grey than the light grey you've used but not so blue as the dark grey you used. Hope that wasn't too confusing!

Love the vehicle conversions too btw.
