    Wishing for Kroot Mercs

One of the first things I did when I registered for Warseer was make a thread for a Kroot model, specifically my palanquin which was intended as the army centerpiece. I got some great feedback on it, and now seems like a good time to make a project log for the whole army. This is mostly going to be a painting log, as I've got most of the models I want and they are nearly all converted up, but only one test model is actually painted yet.

Firstly, the palanquin. It is currently being painted, but this is how it looked just before undercoating.

Another set of models I really love and find greatly inspiring, the lesser knarlocs.

A group shot, not of everything but of a small handful of kindred.

And finally the one and only painted model so far, also seen in the background of the previous photo.

    Suggestions and critique welcome.

Nice looking kroot - the palanquin is great! What army list are you planning to use?

Thanks! The palanquin did take some time to build, but it was actually quite rewarding fiddling around with all the little bits of wood, since it was supposed to represent a wood structure anyway. I look forward to getting it painted.

I was planning to use a homemade list based on the old Kroot Mercs chapter approved list for the army. I was very tempted to go for some winged Vultures, but instead I'm working on some beefy Headhunters with ork torsos.

I love the idea of all Kroot armies and this looks great and original.
    That palanquin is awesome.
Look forward to more of your kroot.

Pretty sweet, a Kroot Merc army is something I would consider making after my IG are done. Any chance of a brighter pic of the carnivores? Or is that a base coat, I can't quite make it out...

Cool looking kroot mate, and really nice to see one of the "lesser" races getting some attention. I really like the palanquin.

I really love the kroot. They are in my top "most fun to paint" units.
I really love what you did with the palaquin and can't wait to see the knarlocs all finished up. Here's to hoping that the future Tau empire book allows an entire kroot army

Thanks for the kind comments! I finished the Carnivores, now I've just got about 30 more to go! Hope the pic is bright enough.

Here is a WIP shot of the palanquin.

This is a good question. As I mentioned earlier, I’m going to play it as a homemade army list, so I can basically give it whatever rules I want. I was intending to use it as a character upgrade that has various effects. As I see it, having the extra bodies of the bearers could add +2 Wounds, but give the model -1 to hit in close combat due to the loss of mobility (or maybe opponents should get +1 to hit instead?). The main benefit I imagine being that friendly units within 12” can use the character’s Ld for break tests, since he is being held up high for them all to see and be inspired.

Ideas and suggestions for appropriate rules highly welcome.

Thanks, the facepaint is crucial for the models looking feral and intimidating I think. I can't claim to have made up the colour scheme myself, I copied it directly from the art on the cover of the old Kroot Carnivore unit box.

A few more WIP pics for good measure. Suggestions for what garment colours look good when combined with the brown skin and flaming quills are very welcome.
