gaarew's Ogre Kingdoms plog inc. ToFP2011 work.

As well as my Mantic Dwarfs army, I figured I really should have a GW legal army for Conflict, or instore tournaments, so, from my vast hoard, I, for the time being at least, figured Ogres was the best place to start. Big models and points cost = low model count, and they work as suspicious allies to everybody, so I can bulk out my Dwarfs with them, or get started on one of my Chaos forces at a later date.

    So, a little background...

My Ogre army is a tribe of savages from the rain-drenched isle of Albion, whose name sounds almost like Skullpluckers, but isn't quite. The name comes from a devolved practise they inflict upon the heads of their enemies (severed or otherwise) in order to remove the last remains of tasty brain before mounting the skulls as warnings to any other trespassers. Of course, the larger the victim, the easier it is. Like all Ogres, they pride themselves on girth... They are uncivilised and brutish, more so than any other Ogre tribe around, and spend all their time either fighting, growling in strange accents, chasing the elusive Haggis and deep frying various races in order to find the perfect ending to a night of brawling, drinking, and 'brain removal...' The Skull(pl)uckers cover their faces in blue warpaint, with vivid white crosses, the origins of which remain a mystery. Like all Ogres, they are monothestic, but have coined the insult 'Yer Maw,' which Imperial scholars have debated to mean it is either suggestive that the insultee is less favoured by the Ogre God, or has a puny mouth, which would be inadequate for any serious eating competition.

First up is my unit of Bulls for the ToFP, although they are still to be varnished and have blood added. I'm still working on a banner top, although it will involve a large skull. Possibly with enlarged eye sockets...

I have since, repainted all the facial hair ginger, as, if you are going to rip into a racial stereotype, you might as well do it properly.

Next up will be, eh, I dunno. I have a huge amount of OK stuff to be getting on with. Probably a Bruiser and 2 more units to make a legal army.

EDIT - I want to include at least one of every possible option for my army, regardless of tabletop prowess. I reckon approximately 200 - 250 points per choice as a general figure, of course, this will be easy to hit with Ogre units, and more challenging with Gnoblars. Some choices have a fixed point cost, so, I'm stuck with that, and some characters might be hard pushed to get that high, Lords being the exception.

So (entries in blue are complete, those in orange are being worked on)

    LORDS

    Tyrant (1)
    Slaughtermaster (1)

    HEROES

    Bruiser (1)
    Bruiser Battle Standard Bearer (1)
    Hunter (1)
    Butcher (1)

    CORE

    Bulls (6)
    Ironguts (4+)
    Gnoblar Fighters (100+)
    Gnoblar Trappers (34+)

    SPECIAL

    Leadbelchers (4+)
    Yhetees (3+)
    Gnoblar Scraplauncher (1)

    RARE

    Maneaters (3+)
    Slavegiant (1)
    Gorger (3+)

    SPECIAL CHARACTERS

    Skrag the Slaughterer (1)
    Greasus Goldtooth

Bar Greasus, a Gorger, the Yhetees and about 20ish Trappers, I reckon I have enough models to cover this.

The face paint makes them look too much like Mexican professional wrestlers. Otherwise nicely done. I actually really like the orange facial hair on them.

Re: gaarew's Ogre Kingdoms plog inc. ToFP2011 work.

Cheers guys. Well, in order to get the army legal as quickly as possible, I'm adding my Bruiser to my workload for Oct TofP

plus, I reckon a unit of about 7 Ironguts for him to lead.

Yeah, I know my Bruiser is a Maneater, but, I figured I'd give him the Fencer's blades, so it seemed like the best model to use. I'll probably relegate him in future though.

I've also started planning my BSB conversion.

Re: gaarew's Ogre Kingdoms plog inc. ToFP2011 work.

    Finished.

Fed up with the hirsute and uncultured Ogre 'ladies' at the Tribe's dancing, Big Ging made enquires into a mail-order bride from a friendly Nipponese tribe. After paying his fee's, all communication was cut, so, with a furious (wander)lust building, he set of to Nippon to collect what was rightfully his. After many travels, Ging made it to Nippon, only to realise that he had been duped by the service, and his intended was easily mistakable for a Rhinox when the lights were turned down. In a fit of rage, he grabbed a pair of ceremonial swords on display, and promptly lopped off her, and all other concerned parties heads. He kept the swords as compensation for his troubles, and spent time travelling Nippon and learning the ways of the fabled shadow warriors. However, stealth eluded Ging, as his cultural upbringing led him to believe that the best way to infiltrate was straight through the wall. He became disillusioned with the ideals and returned to the Skull(pl)ucker tribe a changed man, having kept the costume.

and I've made a start on the banner top.

Now, time to get building some Ironguts. Or Gnoblars...

Re: gaarew's Ogre Kingdoms plog inc. ToFP2011 work.

    Leadbelcher unit done.

Boisterous Boomer Blackhead & the Weapons of Ass Destruction. Or Ogre Leadbelchers.

Boomer had always been a Ogre with a penchant for loud noises and destruction. Following a spectacularly devastating (and tasty) mishap involving some firecrackers and an immature Rhinox, he was banished from the Skull(pl)uckers, until he had found a way of making good use of his talents. A chance meeting with a travelling merchant pointed him in the direction of Nuln, blackpowder capital of the Empire, and so off set young Boomer, his faithful Gnoblar in tow.

Boomer caused quite a stir in Nuln, however, his immense bulk was soon put to use in the smithy's where he picked up some rudimentary knowledge of smelting and forging. Or melting stuff and hitting it. Despite his desire to play with the toys, Boomer managed to bide his time, acting as a pack mule, until he was given leave to enter the areas where the blackpowder was stored.

Whilst helping with repairs one day, a damaged Great Cannon was brought in, and upon being unloaded from its hitching, promptly lost a wheel. The smiths and engineers stood around debating what to do, however, Boomer strode over, hefted the cannon up and carried it to the forge. A chance remark of 'That looks like it was made for you' sparked a cunning idea in Boomers infantile mind. That night, when the workshops had closed, Boomer snuck in, as only an Ogre can, and left with the cannon and as much blackpowder as he could carry. Which was rather a lot.

In the morning, the engineers found the door hanging from one hinge, and a grubby note bearing the single word 'TAR'.

Young Boomer made his way back to the Skull(pl)uckers, cannon in tow, and after a few succesful (and many more unsucessful) demonstrations, was welcomed back into the arms of the tribe.

From that day, he gathered a crowd of eager (and destructive) young Bulls, and taught them the art of gunnery. He lead many raids on Imperial and Dwarven trade caravans, in order to increase the store of blackpowder and cannons available to the tribe, and has even started planning to build a gunworks himself. The most able of Boomer's proteges are known as the Weapons of Ass Destruction, however, it is still under debate whether they were given this moniker due to the pant-filling terror they cause in their opponents, who, just getting used to the idea of huge Ogres running screaming at them with clubs, now have huge Ogres running screaming at them with Cannons and Mortars, or due to the practice of mixing blackpowder into everything they eat, a practise which ravages their digestive systems, and causes no small amount of panic when, in the wee small hours of the night, a thunderous cannonade roars out from the camp. In this case, nobody knows whether the Weapons or the rest of the tribe end up with the messiest trousers.

As for how Boomer eventually garnered the name Blackhead is best left to the imagination, as it has nothing to do with powder stains on his face and a lot to do with his rather unique method of ramrodding his Cannon...

And a converted BSB in the works

Nice idea for the brusier bsb. Tell me though, where does one get the grey stuff and how well does it work?

    Cheers guys.

@ Dino - The grey stuff is Procreate, and IIRC, I picked it up from Heresy. I find it easier to work with than greenstuff, especially with a clayshaper.

    http://www.heresyminiatures.com/putties.htm

@ Prince Sairion - The grass on the base is both GW Scorched Grass and Dead Grass. I think the trick to getting it to stand up (oo-er missus) is that when I apply the PVA to the base, I use tweezers to sprinkle the grass over the glue. Then I hold the mini upsidedown and tap the bottom of the base to knock off the excess. I guess all the tapping makes it stand up.

Re: gaarew's Ogre Kingdoms plog inc. ToFP2011 work.

Agbarr Ironbrewer and the Hard Bar Stewards ( )

Standing at the forefront of the Skull(pl)uckers tribe is the mighty Agbarr, a brute of an Ogre with a penchant for strong booze. After yet another successful raid on a Dwarven Merchant convoy, Agbarr found himself in possesion of the best part of a Dwarf Brewmaster (his leg was missing, but what's an Ogre to do?) Agbarr, intrigued by the Dwarf, managed to contain his hunger long enough to examine the veritable horde of glass vials and potions about the Dwarf and his wagon, and after imbibing one, dragged the unfortunate captive back to the tribe.

In a position somewhat between Gnoblar and slave, the Dwarf taught Agbarr how to distil alcohol from grain, giving the tribe their one and only reason to try and locate any sort of non-meat foodstuff, although, being one of the biggest, loudest and most intimidating Ironguts, he found interesting ways of adding to the flavour. All involving adding some form of ironmongery or metal to the brew. Giving rise to the phrase 'There's Trouble brewing.' Agbarr has also come to blows with Boomer on more than one occasion as his cannons proved to be a source of much flavour for the last batch of Ironbrew.

Agbarr enjoys a special place in the tribe, as the only member with full knowledge of the brewing rituals, the Dwarf Brewer cannot be counted as he was put into a bottle and pickled in one of Agbarr's first batches of medicinal tonic. 'Guaranteed to put hairs on your chest' ran the tagline. Sadly, containing 100% Dwarf, it also put hairs on the roof of the mouth.

Following Agbarr, the Hard Bar Stewards got their name due to the fact that they oversee the running of the stills and drinking areas of the tribe, and are the only Ogres with enough intestinal fortitude to drink more than a few kegs of Ironbrew in one sitting. A bunch of violent thugs, they take great pride in dragging unruly patrons round the back for a good kickin'.

Added the Bruiser and Leadbelcher background above too.

This army will look great, the blue will really set them apart, I would like to see some highlights on different areas though, the models seem very dark at the minute.

    UNIT: Woostie, Slaughtermaster extrodinnaire.

BACKGROUND/THEME: Woostie, Head Griller of Fried Products, inventor of the Big Mac (much to Mac's displeasure), propogator of the famous Cheese, extra Cheese, Double Cheese sandwich, heads the culinary contingent of the Skull(pl)uckers tribe. An apprentice of the legendary Maccy Dee, he has, over the years perfected numerous methods of deep frying the most varied objects. Some whilst still alive. He has also made moves for the tribe to eat more Greens, causing no small amount of terror in nearby Orc and goblin encampments.

Sadly, due to an unfortunate incident with a mowing-gnoblar as a youth, Woostie has hobbled about on a spiked peg leg for more years than anyone can remember. His 'disability' was actually a blessing as, the Ogrettes of the Skull(pl)uckers tribe fall for his cheesy (double cheesy, extra cheesy) chat-up lines, concerning his 18 inches. Otherwise known as a foot and a half...

BUILD/CONVERSION: Straight out of the box, how boring

PAINTING: As before, mostly Foundation paints and the Devlan Mudbath. Followed by facepaint and metal highlights. Although, he only took 1 day.

    BASING: As before.

STILL TO DO: The Bulls banner...

    HIGHS: Point Sink.

LOWS: I wanted to get more done. (see below)

POINTS : Ogre Slaughtermaster - Dispel Scroll, Blood Cleaver - 250

    TOTAL POINTS : 993 + 250 = 1243.

    DICE ROLL : 3

ARMY SHOT: The least fuzzy of about a dozen attempts...

FUTURE PLANS: World domination. Actually, the missus gets a section tommorrow, so the reality is more like herding 2 children, and cleaning poop off of a new baby for the best part of a month. Cue sleepless nights. To paint.
