    IG/Catachan Blog

Alright, so I'm just starting out my second army, and I want this one to be full of conversions and such.

My first army is Eldar, and as a beginning player just started building and painting immediately. I now have that army to play with (even if its not on a regular basis), and am beginning to build my new IG/Catachan army.

I'm going for a historical Vietnam type feel, using mostly infantry and of course some Valk's to transport troops in. I've tried to used a lot of the threads on here for advice and ideas.

I've got pieces of my first unit done, and have decided to start a thread to help me stay on track, and also get some advice.

So here it goes: Here's my first Guardsman...

I apologize for the picture quality - doing the best my current camera (my cell) will do.

So since I got some feedback here, it sort of inspires me a bit.

I'm going make a separate post with pictures of the rest of this guy's unit, although he is the only painted member. Painted him as a test really.

Here's basically what I'm going for with this unit:

The silhouettes are nice, I can still see the general picture here. I think that if you want a really cool type of Vietnam-planet, you should try and look at the other threads here, like the 450th veitnamese Guard thread.

Hey Brother, I took a look at the one you suggested. It's actually quite different than what I'm going for. I'm going for more US/British troops in Vietnam. Basically historical jungle fighters.

Obviously the bodies on these guys will be a bit "larger" than I would like them to be, and by right should be. I mean, just look at the water/swamp pictures... but I think they'll work much better than the Cadian troops for what I want.

Looks pretty cool from what I can see, but it gets me thinking. What are you are doing with their legs?

They look awesome, and I really like the idea. The only problem I see is that some people may have problems with the fact they are smaller than "normal" and therefor are easier to hide, or change the LOS. Some might even ignore how great they'll end up looking and say you "modeled for advantage", so just make sure you know who you're playing with.

Half of them actually have their legs, I just cut them down a bit, so they're 3/4 out of the water/swamp. The others, i have yet to find a use for.

I do see this could be a potential problem, although the weeds and vegetation and such that i've added to these models keep them around the same height. So I guess if they can see the weeds, they can shoot them.

Also, if someone is complaining about me modeling my troops for a "strategic advantage", I probably wouldn't want to play against them anyways. I'm in it for the fun, definitely not a hardcore rules guy.

    October Goals:
    1. Model a custom Eldar Autarch

Nice work. The helmet a great looking modification, and the "wading" base is a cool idea.

Just one minor recomendation, be a bit more careful lining up the arms when you glue them on, as the misalignment is kind of obvious in some of those shots.

Well, I didn't achieve my goals... I did get one of them completed. Mostly because I needed him to use in a tourney list that I ran yesterday. I guess this isn't really the best spot for him, but as a lack of somewhere else to get feedback, here's my Autarch.

Nice, I like the use of wings on him, as well as that base. I think it's fine if you post one or two un-related models here, but if you start posting a whole army blog's worth of nonj-imperial pics, then we have a problem.

I think you should keep up the work on those Guard, they look too good to leave unpainted.

    Re: IG/Catachan Blog

Once again, been way too long. Got married and moved since my last post, so i've been quite busy to say the least. I'd love to finish this guard army in the coming months, or at least paint everything I have (about 1250 pts.)

So with that said, here's some better shots of my 2 Valks and my chimera from my new camera

Comments on the base? Some of it is painted, some isn't, I'm still toying with the idea of painting them all...
